  • I seen the system that made that tornado go over my tiny town. But all it did was rain alittle bit, thunder rumbled in the distance, and maybe flashed alittle. It really makes you think when you hear that that tiny little rain cloud turned into such a massive, terrifying monster...

  • the last house on the block just got a bunch of free shit.....

  • That playset did an admirable job of staying put through some nasty wind. Impressive!

  • Has anyone noticed at 2:24 the Cat that runs across the yard from right to left?

  • @mark3621 nicely spotted...looks like it made it

  • Whatever is proven or not proven, every tornado is different. The location, the population, the strength, the deaths, the destruction, the warning siren, the time of day,the season, storm shelters, basements for safety. Every storm, tornado, flood, earthquake, tropical storm, hurricane, blizzard, and forest fire, has changed my way of thinking. I think, luck and God are on my side. I made it,and so did my family. I'am 50 now, and, have traveled riding race horses. Most of my worst experiences happened growing up

  • OH MAH GOT OH MAH GOT TRAMPLEENE! TRAMPLEEN!

  • LOL LOOKS LIKE A HAMSTER FACEPLANTED AT 2:27 ON THE CAMERA!!!!!

  • We have had train vs tornado and now we finally have the video we have all been waiting for......trampoline vs tornado

  • It just takes forever for the tornado to show up...Makes my heart race

  • thumbs up if this shit sent your heart racing O_O

  • I wanna build my house out of the same stuff that they make a bank security camera with.

  • RIP to the poor dog in the video, also, what kind of security camera is this, c ause its a hardcore friggin security camera!

  • @MsAnnernanner wow, ur right but i think it might be a dog, watch closely around 2:15 ish and youll see the tornado rip open the fence to the right, the whole thing comes off like a giant gate and swings out, then it comes prodding out into the yard and across the cameras screen,

  • chuck norris filmed this

  • There is no "eye" or "eyewall" in a tornado.

  • @ranger1843 Yes there is, actually. It's just too small to matter.

  • @DBR96A Actually, you're right, theoretically. However, I am skeptical of your claim of their insignificance. Eyes are very important when it comes to velocity gradients (acceleration).

  • @ranger1843 yes there is. it is especially prominent in large wedge tornadoes. Read the stories of people in the greensburg, ks tornado, about how it came on them, it got a little calmer and they thought it was over, only to have the back end of it with opposite directional winds hit them. Every circulation has a center that the winds revolve around my friend :)

  • @Barderella Read my post below. Eyes in tornadoes are still classified as mainly theoretical. There were radar echo signatures very similar to eyes with the Greensburg tornado; however I am not totally convinced that calm winds existed within those "holes". There are videos of both the Tuscaloosa, Alabama tornado of April 27th and the Fredericksburg, VA tornado of October 13th that show the tornado passing by followed by calm and then a microburst. As for your last sentence...duh!

  • @ranger1843 if your reply to my last sentence is ...duh!, then u agree there is a center axis where the winds are calmer :) And you are correct, it is theory, but relativity was also just a theory :) We just need more data...and with the advances in technology, i believe we will soon know for sure. But i believe in the eye theory...i have been in a tornado...1967 Oak Lawn, IL so i speak with that experience in my hip pocket.

  • @Barderella Relativity is still a theory. Y'all are messing up the meanings of theoretical and hypothetical. Theories have been proven, hypotheses have not.

  • @applesareg00d theories are hypothetical. they have not been proven. theories are based on observation whereas hypotheses are an educated guess. if a theory is proven, it is no longer a theory, it is a scientific fact. high school education, 1999, scientific method. know what you speak before you speak it.

  • everything is gone ):

  • My Birthday Always causes trauma

  • OMG

  • You can tell from the direction of the winds that at first the edge of the eye wall hits--then you are within the funnel area of slighter calm----and then it swerves towards the left and leaves the area because the winds come forward--then reverse--then go to the left it could only do that if the the camera was not dead center--it had to be off to the side -but it also could have done it if the tornado did not go in a perfectly straight line..

  • I was in the tornado and our house was demolished, there were dead ppl on our street and ppl screaming to find there kids and family.... So ya it was over 100mph !

  • @vibes1socrazy dont know who made the original comment but i sat right here during wilma which had the highest winds (for wilma) right here at my exact location--150mph. I can tell you right now for a fact THAT WAS NOTHING COMPARED TO THIS. My windows were bulging inward and the stone roof lifted up and was flapping but the winds in this video WERE WAY WORSE.. These winds are not LESS THAN 200 MINIMUM.... also during our milder canes ive stood outside in 100mph 100 aint that fast...

  • That trampoline was not going out without a fight

  • Wow this is horrible

  • F 5 tornadoes winds are like 300 mph

  • It was rated an EF-5. You do the math.

  • these are much greater than 100, i live in southeast texas and stayed for hurricane ike and we had 90mph sustained winds with 110mph gusts and it looked nothing like this is wayy worse.

  • @AaronBRDN E-F5 tornadoes are at least about 250 mph, I think, something like that.

  • @AaronBRDN

yes under carefull conditions ive ventured outside in 100 during the hurricanes here--which isnt that strong..

  • Holy Mother F*cking GEEZUS!!!!!

  • @MrYounginonhisgrind

    Ok sorry!

I was just telling about it! =[

  • I've never been close to a tornado until 2 day's ago and that was pretty intense! I couldn't imagine the power of this storm when your in the middle! I would think looking out your window and seeing just 110 mph. winds is scary in itself! But... these people who live in "Tornado Valley" have nerves of steel to stay in such a place!

  • Also, go to 0:31 then 3:05 and see the huge difference..

  • @TheHaug97 Don't laugh. What if this happened to you?

  • man, the tornado winds lasted like 3-4 minutes....unbelievable

  • i can se the cat too. I think it was scared, dont you think. haha.

  • that most have ben a big tornado. fantastic video.

  • @TheHaug97 It actually was the deadliest tornado on the US in 64 years. It killed around 160 people and devastated the town of Joplin to a degree that it was described as if an Atomic Bomb was dropped in the city. You should look at the pictures from the Aftermath.

  • Such extreme weather..

  • COOOOOOOOOOOOL!!!!! HOW DID THE CAMERA STAY THERE THAT WHOLE TIME??? LOL

  • omg..

  • omg wow first f5 inside tornado recorded

  • @TheRACINGRANDY i think the tornado just side swiped it. I highly doubt that camera and the building it was attached to would survive winds that can throw a dinner fork through a telephone poll.

  • @Ghoulgamesh Fucking troll. Go somewhere else, ass. :)

  • My Heart goes out to All of Joplin :)

    <3 Michigan

  • @YumPepsi01 Same here.

    <3 Iowa

  • one word..... damn

  • it only takes 5 mins. to DEstroy 1 city

  • 0:10 before, 4:51 after. Amazing!

  • This was probably shot on the outside of the tornado, where the winds werent the strongest thats why the camera survived.

  • @mryjn420090 yes, the tornado absolutely did not hit this camera and bldg head on, it came very near though, "side swiped"

  • @omtomt8787 I dunno, around 3:50 it suddenly gets very calm, followed 3 or 4 seconds later by heavy winds going the opposite direction. This tornado was known to have a 300 yard long eye. I believe the eye passed over this area.

  • @cam94z28 if the tornado hit this structure and camera there wouldnt be a camera there, the winds in the tornado were around 235-possibly 270 mph, clearly the winds here were not that, id say around 90-110 mph

and there isnt an "eye" when t comes to tornadoes, this was a multi-vortex tornado w multiple vorticies swirling and rotating withing the main structure of the tornado, and that cat would have been lifted 1000 feet in the air

  • @omtomt8787

90-110? A storm we had a few years ago had 96mph winds and we had little to no damage. Looked nothing like that either. That is far greater than just 100mph. Not a direct hit, but to say it's in that range is definitely an understatement.

  • @northwestwa nah, far greater than 100 mph would have taken more objects and ud see much more larger debris flying and the camera would have been taken. and when hurricane isable came through w winds 60 to some gusts around 90 knocked many trees down everywhere w many houses split in half, dont know what storm u were in. i also studied in tornado damage surveying while getting my degree at texas tech. i kinda know weather.

  • @omtomt8787 This tornado was classified f5, and by the video its pretty clear that winds WERE over 200 at least.

  • @ALLenROOK no, not at all, so incredibly wrong, if 200 mph winds were present where this camera was, it wouldnt be there, that building it was attached to would have been gone . now that being said, the tornado did not directly hit this camera it is CLEAR, this tornado probably had winds over 260 mph

  • @ALLenROOK and it was classified an ef5, trust me, i know more about weather than u could possibly know

  • @cam94z28 No. The structure with the camera on it would have been entirely obliterated. This camera probably would have been found a mile away in a muddy ditch.

  • The most amazing thing is - this is moderate to light damage from this particular tornado. In some places, trees had their bark removed and houses were scrubbed off the earth, down to the foundation.

  • That was 5 minutes of brutality from mother nature and there are some damn strong trees still standing right there!

  • I took alot of pictures after the devastation. I was just curious how you knew to lay camera out in time & how you did it. It was a terrible storm

  • @maynardlstaley well some people do have cameras at home set up, and this camera and place it was at wasnt hit directly by the tornado, the tornado came pretty close, but didnt directly hit it

  • How did you do that??? I went to Joplin. It was terrible. Devastion beyond you can imagine. Where did you place thart camera for it to stay as it did?

  • Trying to judge from the wind direction to figure out if the tornado was behind or in front of the cam. Also very shocking how bright it is even though the cam was in the circulation.

  • @Ghoulgamesh

I bet you like World of Warcraft, eh? Still live with mom? Not many girls around? Gonna work at Google and be somebody someday aren't you?

  • I wish it never happened too man. Sorry to ALL of Joplin from your Kansas neighbor.

  • amazing, this video made me physically scared

  • @Ghoulgamesh It is really not funny at all. 158 people died in this and thousands are severly injured for they rest of their life. I met kids at the hospital in joplin who have their legs and arms amputated. Is that funny?

  • @TheMightykaz not to mention also that still 200 people r missing, only god knows where their body parts are

  • tornado didnt directly hit this place, but it was close, got side swiped

  • pause at 5:15 and llok to the right thumbs up if u see a house framework:(

  • Man, that playhouse held it's ground far longer then expected...impressive :3

  • @MsAnnernanner i seen it...poor cat

  • I MISS TREES!!!!!

  • yeah, this camera got side swiped, not really a hit

  • Whats scary is this wasnt even the worst part of the tornado.

  • I know this was a real (and tragic!) event, but somehow, I feel like this video is a metaphor for something. Like it symbolizes a lot of things that are going on right now.

  • I want a camera that can withstand hell.

  • Wow, surprised the camera survived. What direction in the camera facing? I'm slightly curious if this is the outer fringes of the tornado since you said it was one block north of you, or inflow, or even the RFD of the storm.

  • Im volunteering here in joplin now and it has cleaned up major it looks better but still alot of work and hearts to heal.

  • @Hbryant188 What cat?

  • @ 2:20 really starts to pick up

  • @A7Xrocks7138 Haven't you ever heard how random tornadoes are? They can destroy a whole restraunt, but leave the napkins on the table. So I'm not surprised the house is still there. There are so many factors in play here.

  • Very Violent, but not in the heart of that tornado. Note that the trees are left completely intact. Not far away, larger trees were stripped bare and even debarked. I'd rate this part of the storm low EF2. Just the same, it's pretty amazing. Thanks for posting.

  • @gyocomgd Just because those trees didn't go doesn't mean any thing. Its seems to me the tornado wasn't as close as you would think. And I don't think it's an EF2 with how fast things are flying....

  • Damn nature, you scary!

  • is the white part that we see in the upper part of the frame, the tornado?

  • @A7Xrocks7138 I might guess that the worst of the tornado missed this particular spot.

  • Im very sorry for everyones loss this spring.

  • holy fuck, that some scary shit.....

  • @juanfecruz I'm pretty sure you are correct. It looks like a cat to me.

  • The camra was on a brick wall witch didn't go down and it was for security only, we got the worst prowler ever! it took my granny and pappi and mommy and daddy and sister and 4 friends in the house beside the wall, I was under ground and wished now I was killed in that tornado, wiped my hole family out and friends

  • wow... that so many people survived is truely a blessing from Christ! i'm so sorry you and many others had to go through this....

  • God bless all the joplin residents I and many others are praying constantly for your city joplin is a second home to me working with americore in joplin was extremely difficult God bless you He can heal the deepest wounds we keep you in our constant prayers. -christ be with you ,Sam

  • You know despite them all being dangerous and all (and tell me if im crazy for this) But I would love to experience a tornado to experience the raw untamed power. I love wild weather. I want to know and experience what some of these people went through

  • @Silvawolf100 I feel the same way. Not only do I want to see a tornado. I wanna feel that mothafucker. It would be INTENSE!!! probably be scared to death but just imagine the fuckin rush you would get

  • @A7Xrocks7138 Here in Rhode Island we had a monster storm right after the tornado hit Massachusetts. I was awake when it hit and I honestly thought it was turning into a tornado. In my backyard, I had small pots of basil, sitting on the ground. In the morning stuff was knocked over, etc. But those pots didn't move! Not one inch...still upright. On my block we had massive trees lifted up right out of the sidewalk; a pre-civil war era tree snapped in half. My pots didn't move. Spooky!

  • i miss my town GOD BLESS JOPLIN

  • mother nature...

  • 2:24 looks like a animal maybe a cat running....and am i right??

  • @juanfecruz No. At 2:23 you can see it on the right hand side of the frame, get wrapped around a pole, get loose and fly to the left side of the frame. It looked like a piece of cardboard or insulation. If it were an animal it wouldn't be running, It wouldn't even have the strength to stand in that kind of wind

  • @Hbryant188 you can't be serious. The object you are describing as we all see it would NOT travel perpendicular to a possible 150 mph + wind just for the hell of it. It wasn't an inanimate object traveling against the damned wind. It was a cat clinging low to the ground with good grip. The cat probably lost its grip at some point out of frame and was killed. It was definitely a cat. You can tell by the movement.

  • @themooretales YOU CAN'T BE SERIOUS.....it's not a cat look at the shape of it. Way too big and the angle it's shaped in. It moves across the screen way too fast yet at the same time looks to be limping?

  • @themooretales Yep, something hit that little tree and stopped it, and it took off to the left. Amazing that it did not get hit with bullet fast debris in that little distance it traveled. Either a small dog or cat. Either way, it travels almost 90 degrees to the wind, and is certainly alive and running.

  • When the leaves. Hit and stuck to the cam it look like boogers. XD

  • i hope u guys know thats not a cat, at 2:18 you can see a projectile from "BEHIND IT" fly at the camera. And throughout the rest of the video, u can still see the "cat" still in frame on the left.

  • WoW!

  • Thats scary

  • Good video, bad deal

  • Just prior to 2:17 2:18......Was that the cat on the left?

And if you click play and pause quick enough in the 2:17-8 frame...... is that the cat flying by suddenly? Sorry if that was yours.......

  • I hope everyone you knew who lived in joplin is okay. But as some one who is more compassionate towards animals then people I hope so many people have been reunited with there animals. and that some one finds the kitty :(

  • @UglyVlogging I watched a couple of times and while I don't think that's cat in the video, on the animal side of things you might be happy to know that over 700 animals were adopted this past weekend that were displaced by the tornado. This includes pets that were never reclaimed and pets whose owners could not keep them under current conditions. I think the news article said people came from 24 different states to adopt animals.

  • you can tell this is not fake by the way the winds react. that was some siding that hit the camera

  • you can tell this is not fake by the way the winds react

  • My Wife and I were on Rangeline and turned on 20th right into the storm. We never heard the sirons and were at the mall while they were sounding. We turned right into the Tornado! We pulled into a random driveway on Arizona St and rode it out in our Honda Civic. Were you in the direct path? Seems like it took about 5 min to pass, and that's what it felt like in the car. I still don't know how we made it out alive. Our house was wiped clean off the foundation.

  • I'm curious to know what kind of winds are capable of ripping a tree out of the ground and send it flying like a missile, which is exactly what happened at the 2:45 mark.

  • @vanni9283 Winds of the strongest EF-5 since 1953.

  • @rarebasses

    And what tornado was that?

  • @vanni9283 The Tornado in this video.

  • @rarebasses

I was referring to the tornado in 1953.

  • Tragic loss of life aside, this is Incredible footage. Many spend years trying to get a camera that close to the inside of a tornado. And its rare footage like this that can help us understand tornados better. I'm wondering if this was from the real big mile wide one or possibly another?

And how bad did the rest of the house and surrounding get damaged?

I'm glad you guys made it out okay. Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone out there.

  • @horseluver4evar3344 Yeah, um.... really? They liked the footage and video, not the fact that it killed people. I bet you're one of those people who go on the animal videos and call them out for animal abuse in every single one.

  • This is probably the best Tornado footage on YT.

    It damn sure was dramatic.

If it had been taken by a Journalist or Photographer it would win a Pulitzer.

  • I need to revise the time it is more like 2:23 you can see what looks like a cat or maybe even a dog running towards the left of the screen from the middle. You might need to enlarge the screen to see it. I don't know how the cat / dog made it as far as it did.

  • Comment removed

  • this is unimaginably scary, especially after 2 minutes, at 2:29 it's unthinkable

  • Its is so crazy how it just missed your house. You all are very lucky. My prayers go out to you and everyone who has suffered

  • So sorry you captured such destruction of your property but it is some great video of what goes on in one of these terrors. Hopefully the cat will return.

  • The best tornado footage EVER thank U so much 4 uploading this♥♥♥♥

  • At 2:44 you can see a persons body fly by. Thats scary shit.

  • @stevieballs22 I watched a couple of times and couldn't spot the "body" but I do know of at least two people who were in their home near the hospital that got hit. They were found on the other side of town (near where the tornado hit me) one of them was dead when they found him the other last I heard is still in intensive care. If it's true, that would mean they were dragged about 4 to 5 miles through town.

  • I didn't see the cat. what's the time?

  • It's amazing how in the span of 5 minutes, this looks like a normal backyard to a warzone. I am thankful to see you are OK, this is one of the most insane tornado videos yet I've seen. My heart goes out to all of you, I hope rebuilding will go well.

  • EF 2 winds at house. House in background is deroofed.

  • @fusionxx1000

It's probably on the very edge of the tornado. This video would likely not exist if it were taken in the core of the tornado b/c the camera would be toast!!!

  • Thanks for your quick reply to my response yesterday. It would be interesting if you posted another video with shots of your house, street and the area so we could get a better idea of the damage. Google has a normal street view of Minnesota & 27th Ave. I wasn't able to spot the trampoline and wasn't sure what house was yours.

  • @A7Xrocks7138 I have no idea, the wall were this camera is located is full of holes from the stuff flying around. Its in a weather proof camera mount, something hits the sun shield and breaks it off causing the camera to pop up allowing a better view.

  • What are the cross streets you live at in Joplin? I just wondered where you were located in relation to that "viral" video of the 20 people in the cooler. Their impact was at about 5:55 pm, so your video must have be earlier.

  • @winterdesert1 27 and Minnesota, we are about 2 miles from 20th and duquesne were the fasttrip store is located

  • The view of all that flying debris is just dramatic. If anybody tries to underestimate the power of a tornado, look no further than this video.

  • Great video!! The camera could easily be in a corner hence not being blown away cause it cant be pushed back..Joplin went through alot be mindful when posting if you cant say something positive.

  • @MrsChloe2009 This camera is located just under the eve of my sun room and was not located in a corner. I had put this camera up last summer with the intention of replacing it with something not so old and bulky looking. This Ultrac camera is mounted in a weather tight camera housing with just two drywall screws attaching it to the wall, I have no idea how it took such a beating and stayed on the house but it recorded me one intense video. Tornados do strange things.

  • which intersection is this near in Joplin?

  • @fatrock1204 27th and Minnesota

  • That tornado said blip bloop blop blip all over yo yard.

  • @avaiae....we were NOT oblivious...we obviously dont have your psychis ability to tell everyone 7 hours before the tornado to take cover...i happen to live in joplin and barely survived the tornado and I find it HIGHLY offensive what you said. My prayers are with the familys who have lost someone or a business in joplin and rip to my friends that were lost as well.

  • Comment removed

  • @lootordie Did you see any fists? Nope

  • I was standing in that area on the 9th it was heartbreaking to see.

  • @Bwiser8 God bless Joplin and all those who pitched in a helping hand

  • @Bwiser8 God bless Joplin and all those who pitched in a helping hand

  • That poor kitty!! Hope it made it! That was one WELL mounted security camera!!! So not fake! Thanks for posting!!! My heart goes out to u all. Good luck and god speed!

  • Amazing vid! Thanks for posting it. Glad you are okay.

  • 2:24 dog gets blown into fram then runs close to the house?

  • 2:44 dog gets blown into fram then runs close to the house?

  • I really pray the poor mee yeow is ok.

  • @nazrisonma Cats are hearty little shits.

  • Said, minus the tornado that has got to be some of the strongest winds I have seen in a storm. I don't think this was in the direct path of th

  • @TheMightykaz No we were not in the direct path. We were very lucky as we didn’t have adequate shelter and just moments before my house the tornado shifted one block north sparing me and my family.

  • @Wiredtylle I know what you mean, I lived at the Plaza Apartments right behind Walmart, the building we took refuge in is just gone (the club house) and somehow we are still here. I think the two worst injuries among the people I was with was some guy got nailed smacked by a two by four in the chest and broke 3 of his ribs and my roommate was thrown by the wind the minute the walls disappeared and whatever she struck broke her arrm.

  • @Dcreedo So, yeah, despite the unluckyness of having a record breaking tornado hit our town, lots of people had higher than average luck that day lol
