I thank God for people like Warren Haynes. He truly moves me. The stuff he does with music is beautiful and unbelievable. Aaaaand, this is one of my favorite songs :) Thanks for posting this!
What a beautiful intro. You can hear Steve Cropper, Bobby Womack but its Warren Haynes:
I don't know how he does it! The Allman Brothers, The Grateful Dead, Government Mule, his own singer songwriter stuff. In addition he is very active in Habitat for Humanity. Mr Haynes, do you ever sleep?
if anyone judges a song writer, who might have, or probably did drugs.... then start reading.... all great song writers were "high" on something... everyone has an "opiate" wether it be drugs, or propaganda... chew on that...cheywun...
I have always loved his voice. it's to bad most people don't take notice of his vocal ability.everyone goes on about Greg Allman, but Warren is just as good in his own right. his guitar playing is always great too. he seems so humble and kind. I hope he lived a long time. thanks for posting this. this is a great song. I don't need to see a live performance. the music is enough.Don't get me wrong. I would love to see him playing this, but this recording is perfect.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Allman's a hack compared to warren, as far as vocals go, I've never really liked Gregg's voice. I saw him on one of the Greg Allman and friends tours with Robin Ford and was impressed with the overall performance, horn section, second keyboard and Ford's guitar playing but to be honest Greg's voice was the weakest part of the show, not that it was terrible, mind you, but Warren's voice has way more soul, raw emotion and energy than Greg could ever hope to have
I understand what you're saying, but understand Greg is older than Warren and he has lost some. These abilities are like good look's you can't keep them forever. Greg's is still respected as one of the best white soul/blues singers and certainly diserves respect. He's provided us with great blues for a lot of years and Warren is a good compliment to his style.
I agree, age doesn't bode well for musicians, especially singers, but Greg's problem is much more than age, it's years and years of drug abuse that has trashed his body and his voice. There are a lot of singers as old as Greg that sound a whole lot better, mainly because they took care of themselves a little bit better. For me personally, I just think Warren's vocals are incredible, he just conveys the emotion of every song he sings. You actually feel the emotion he's putting out there.
Yea after he kicked one beast he found another booze. My favorite of his is not an ABB recording but listed as Greg Allman/Laid Back. If you haven't heard it. I think you will like it. Alot of people aren't aware of it. It's got several ABB numbers, like Midnite Rider but a slower, bluesie, backed by a full orchestra.
I've noticed in regard to his vocals is his undertones which aren't apparent on a poor quality sound system. Yet just comes alive on a good one. Some artist sound better on a bad system & the good one's sound great on the better systems where you can actually hear the detail. The prob is if the source is bad, you will know it, if its good its bliss. Those who are'nt blessed with the enjoyment of such miss out, yet don't understand the sound system is the last link to the artist.
He is amazing, soulful in his voice and his guitar. Just watch him play something, he feels every beat every note. Incredible. Astounding voice and practically perfect guitar. Rock on.
@allen78704 Might as well be understood as if you declared that Warren Haynes isn't a guitarplayer ;-) But anyways, I know what you mean, and I agree.
when i first saw Waren in the Allman bro's, I thought maybe he was a Dickey wannabe, boy was I wrong...This bonaroo album is awsome... I am so impressed, he can shred on a guitar, write music, and has a very soulful voice...Thank God Dickey discovered him, what a talent!!!
Only those that knew Warren back in the 70's & early 80's in Asheville when he played with Ricochet understand what a humble nice person he is. After Ricochet couldn't get there break and broke up Warren was jamming one night at the Office Lounge where a member of David Allen Coe saw him and asked if he would play with them. He thought it was a joke. so he did. That was his first exsposure to the big time. however he had to get away, as he said anyone who would tatoo a fly on his pp's nuts.
Boy that Band Name brings back memories, Warren use to play a old wore out 335 with the finish removed and a old gibson amp with a couple pedals hidden in the back for tone and reverband phase. He was a faster player back then but he has sooooo much more skill and style now ,I use to jam with him at the old Charlie One Club about the time he joined with Coe and we all knew he was going to be a great musician his rendition of stairway to heaven was always jaw dropping....I will be a Fan forever.
Multi, I don't recall "Old Charlie One"? I've heard Warren do some amazing jam numbers, never rehearsed. I asked him one nite "was that rehearsed/" answer, "yuo will never hear that again." my reponse, It a shame a tape wasn't rolling.
Warren Haynes IS IT!!! This was the 1st song of his I ever heard and it was so amazing and beautiful afterward I went and downloaded everything I could find. I have seen him live too many times to count and every time it's amazing! WARREN RULES!
Very few people have the gift of singing like this. It's as if it is heard only by the soul. It penitrates past the ears to the soul. Which in turn send a warm feeling to the heart.
@buyboysellboy: very good discription of how I feel also when I here Warrens Music. Amazing. I'm 28 and I've just now discovered his music and I want every cd he's ever made.
Intensely soulful; I hear greats I love like Jimmy Buffet, Allmans, and Tom Petty...the tone is pleasant, the key perfectly present-not hopelessly searching, and the emotion plentiful with love, committment and desire. A relaxing way for true romance.
I love the quality of this song even if it doesn't have an actual video. If you have a heart moving your spirit, how could you not feel the emotion in his words? It leaves me....dreaming of more....
