Japan modernised Korea greatly, making great sacrifices and causing hyperinflation in Japan. Literacy rose from 1% to 44% because Japan built 5,000 schools. There were fewer than 100 schools in Korea in 1910.

Modern Korea was paid for by billions of dollars from Japan including airport and subway.

Japan built schools and hospitals in Korea to assimilate Korea as part of Japan to increase the power of Japan. Considering that Koreans had lower living standards than Japanese in 1910, assimilation was a good deal.
