  • most of the time the narrator has no idea he's talking about... and/or vido footage shows smth really different, not to mention really horrible and inaccurate CG

  • Weeeeeeeeeeeeee guns!

  • actually the range of the Sturmtiger wasn't that limited, the range was at least 5000 meters and thats not bad for a 149cm long and 345kg weighing HE-Round

  • God i hate it when they say NASH-HORN....

  • The first tanks had NO turrets, stug´s are tanks too!

  • Yes indeed it is called nashorn and not nashhorn. Note the differnce in the grammar settings. And I will be glad to come over to your house to tell you all about how it works... *trying to be funny*

  • Well, "turretless tank" isn't really a proper name for the destroyers and assault guns.

  • The troops that knocked out a Sturmtiger wouldn't have 'breathed a sigh of relief'... they would have simply said..."My god... knocking that out was easy"...

  • t-34 had a 76.2 mm gun.

  • i hope this bastards in Afghanistan are feeling ur firepower!!!

  • the ferdinand wasnt called the Elefant until after they are rearmed with self defense machineguns. The Ferdinand/Elefant was the most heavily armed and armored vehicle at the time, sporting double the armor of the Tiger 1 tank, and a superior 88mm as well.

the Nashorn did have the same long 88mm, but used a light chassis, which made it much more reliable and mobile than the Ferdinand/Elefant at the expense of protection.

these tank destroyers are self-propelled anti-tank guns, not tanks.

  • @ChaosTicket Correct they are not tanks, they are, as you pointed out, tank destroyers.

  • Worst narrator ever

  • @Finkie147

On the contrary, BEST narrator ever ;)

  • T-34 had a 75mm gun? I thought it was 76.2mm

  • @Hairysteed

It is but these shows and experts are full of mistakes that really make you want shake your head.

Take note when they say the 76mm of the Panther when they discuss the jagdpanther.

  • @Hairysteed t 34 76,2 il panther 75/70

  • Time to play World of Tanks.

  • All are pain ass and nec@#$&@!

  • Who makes the best Tanks in the world? Germany? America? Russia? China? or England? France is out of the equation.

  • @TheRegimelife Germany

  • @TheRegimelife Germany! Best engineered tanks, but failed to have the ability to mass-produce, like Russia or America, the best tanks came from Germany, but the game changers were from Russia who were able to mass-produce decent tanks thanks to the first tanks with sloping armor and the ability to use large numbers thanks to the fact that Russia had a an absolute strict wartime economy by january 1939, Russia actually planned to attack Germany first, but Germany attacked about 3 weeks earlier

  • the t-34 had i 76 mm gun EPIC FAIL

  • @allisinthepass

    History channel. Nuff said.... :)

  • @allisinthepass .

    76,2 mm

  • @allisinthepass That's not what the german said when they first saw a t-34 on a battlefield.

  • @xmifi no they were like "run away"

  • the animations are bad.

  • Rockets? I thought it was originally a anti-submarine gun, some kind of heavy mortar. Interesting.

  • Sturmtiger's 380mm rocket's maximum range was 5600-6000m depending on type. Hardly point blank. :)

  • @ladoga And the fact the sturmtiger was crewed by factory workers. Just like most German heavy tanks a total waste of money, but I'm glad they did it. We won do to that.

  • @ThePooppantsman you won because of your overwhelming industrial capacities and numbers. these failures didnt make any difference anymore.

  • you are one epic man thank you for all these excellent videos on tanks

  • Old joke

why did the French plant trees on the Champs Elysse

So the Germans can march in the shade

  • I bet if this comes out in World of Tanks it can one shot Maus

  • @SonicGold34 which one?

  • entire American military today's technology is based on German technology

  • I HATE IT, it was not Germany it was the third Reich (what the english and americans say)!!! Is it so hard to get it on? I dont say England to Great Britain and I dont say England to the British Empire!!! The third reich is no more and thats good, so dont name it germany

  • @Anonymuskid

No asswipe. It WAS Germany! Deal with it, and learn some damm history while your at it.

  • As I recall...early versions of the T34 did have a 75 which was later improved to the 76mm.

  • @met66 It was worst the early versions had the 57mm high velocity gun, wich had an similar penetration to the 75mm, but when the 76(42 or 43 i think) came it was much improvement to those t-34 alowing then even figth tigers at close range

  • @untmortadela

Your data is off, even the first models of the T-34 had a 76.2mm gun, the 57mm armed was a very small production numbers, less than a 100 if i recall due to rumours of the germans having new heavy tanks.

The 76.2 was weaker than the 57mm but it used rare materials for the shell and had a short barrel-life.

  • @Dreachon True thing, my data is indeed off, the Zis-4 57mm was used only in the late war period and there was about only 320 of those guns

  • Ohaa here we go again, still no corection! Nashorn is pronounced NAS HORN not NASH ORN

  • @StaffanGoldschmidt Yes I know you keep repeating yourself.

  • @StaffanGoldschmidt wenn ich etwas falsch ausspreche in englisch werde ich nie so arrogant berichtigt

  • @StaffanGoldschmidt did you want someone watching to apologise?

  • @StaffanGoldschmidt ....and correction is with 2 r's

  • the russian t-34 had a 76mm not a 75mm, please keep to the fact's you pr...

  • Best Tank episode made. Am disapointed that they didnt make more of those and todays documentaries isnt in this quality anymore.

  • Best Tank episode made. Am disapointed that they didnt make more of those and todays documentaries isnt in this quality anymore.

  • love tank hunters

  • What a BS. Elephants were the most successful dedicated AT machines at Kursk, claiming at least 20 bolshevik tanks each.

  • I'm glad that my three uncles who fought in Europe in WWII helped thoroughly defeat these fascist bastards.

  • @Hume77 And I'm sure your uncles are proud that they gave up their childhoods for us to live in a world that is worse that in 1940.

  • nashorn was poorly armored piece of crap similar to marders .. whoever created those vehicles was an idiot

  • @ww2footage

There was nothing idiotic about it's design, they couldn't armour it heavily, the chassi was at it's limit, more armour who have overloaded the chassis and reduced it's mobility, als with the 8.8cm pak the Nahorn didn't need heavy armour as it could sit back at take care of enemy armour at a distance of 1000 to 1500m, it performed superb in it's role.

As for the maders the limits of the chassis prevented, although only intended as a temporary stopgap meassure they performed well.

  • @Dreachon Preformed well when the didn't have to move, and unfortunatly their combat effectiveness wasn't that great on the offensive, and anti-tank guns like the maurder did incredibly well when fighting from an ambush postion. When on open terrian where they could be flanked by faster moving machins, they did quite poorly. Besides the size of your gun matters little when you have a Hawker Typhoon knocking out your tanks left right and centre do to the lack of armour.

  • @canadaloveswhiskey

And aircraft are the poorest choice of when dealing with armoured vehicles. rockets and bombs are as inaccurate as hell and MG and light cannons often lacked the punch to go through most armour.

Besides with all the heavy cover in western europe it was far easier to hide these small and nimble vehicles.

  • @Dreachon Yet even if Airpower only knocked out one in 10 in a rocket slavo, the presence of airpower was felt because most German crews would scuttle their vehicles. So does it realy matter if airpower was ineffective if your crews are abbandoning your guns when a squandron of Typhoons, or Thunderbolts are straffing your coloumn? They were a good assualt gun, when on the defensive, and when the skies were at least contested, but they were not a war winning machine.

  • @canadaloveswhiskey

True, the aircraft had a more psychological influence rather than material.

Well the marder series was only even intended as an interm solution until a purpose designed light panzerjager could be produced, this didn't happen until we saw the Hetzer.

  • @canadaloveswhiskey The Ju 87 G was pretty sucsesfull in a Anti tank role though

  • @Raafje84 Probably one of the best after the IL-2, and the Typhoon, problem with the Ju-87 G, if the Luftwaffe didn't have control of the skies it made for a good target.

  • OMG.PANZER

  • The tank destoyer at 9:30 is a "Nas-Horn" not a "Na-shorn". If you want to have it pronounced "sh" in German, you have to spell it "S-C-H"!

  • @daAnder71 Jee thanks, who cares

  • @daAnder71 ...or have a T or P after an S in the beginning of a syllable

  • What is the title of this song 1:15 ?

  • It's pronounced *Nas-horn*, not *Nash-Horn*...

  • Damn the SturmTigers gun is so big, that if I were an allied tanker I would aim directly at the opening SturmTigers gun and send a round into it!

  • wow these 3D models are horrid to the eye

  • the germans were way too ambitious..too many designs for the resources. They should've mass produced one of their medium assault guns, like the hetzer(sp),or the stug 3 (they did this, but too late in the war).I think both we're based on the proven panzer 3 chassis. The main gun,and armor could be easily upgraded to match the enemy. No turret is the only weakness, but tactics, and a greater gun 'swing' could offset that. They're cheaper, and simpler for rapid production. You could build 3 for 1 panther..

  • elefants were supposed to be supported =\ thats why they didnt have a mg

  • @Roadkill263732 The Elefant had an MG you're thinking of the Ferdinand it's predecessor

  • I want to put some mayonnaise on that head with some pickles.

  • Oooohaaa, here comes the nashorm again, why does mister egghead not learn german? It's Nashorn, stupid!

  • What's a störmtiger?

  • @StaffanGoldschmidt not "ö" its "o"!

  • @StaffanGoldschmidt and in german its "Sturmtiger"

  • The Bore on that STURM MORSER is Huge! When it ran out of rounds, they could put an MG-42 and fire thru the breech.

  • His real name is Beldar. Husband of Prymaat. Father of Connie.

  • Unmitigated disaster?

Didn't the Elefant tank have the highest kill/death ratio if any tank deployed in WW2?

    11:1 or something...

Sure, half of them broke down, but 11:1 is still very impressive...

  • i kinda feel sorry for the nazis

  • The American looks like Humpty Dumpty.

  • I always thought the Sturmtiger had a 380mm mortar, but it's a rocket launcher?

  • @MakeNine42 More correctly, a naval mortar. Used to destroy block buildings and fortifications during sieges and city fighting. Only a few were made.

  • Can i get a link to all of the Tanks series pls, if anyone has it

  • A very (not very, very) informative, well-balanced and objective documentary. Thanks for uplading the entire video.

  • Depending on the terrain, forest or city for example; an anti-tank gun is a very deadly weapon. Having the firepower of a tank it can be lugged around the field by 5 or 6 men. It costs about 10% of what a tank costs and can be hidden quite easily. Even though it provides NO protection to its crew it IS a small target and hard to spot on a dusty, confused battlefield. Anti-Tank crews are quite susceptible to artillery and mortar fire though. Just my opinion...

  • continued- The "Marder" series of tank destroyers cost us Americans quite a problem several times during the German retreat into Germany. They were mobile and easy to hide. They ambushed and blew the hell out of our Shermans. A group of 3 Marders could take on, and hold up a US Tank company with over laying protective fields of fire. Their mobility made them hard to hit with artillery support. Great Vid Series! Thanks for posting.

  • The fat American is The Dr. William Atwater, he wrote me a postcard once, he is very cool.

  • on of the real workhorses of the german wehrmacht: the Sturmgeschütz-Abteilungen und Brigades. they had a record of success on the eastern front with StuG-commanders often credited with over 40+ destroyed T-34, KV-1, etc.

  • "They didn't have anti tank capability." Besides the FlaK 88 guns which were tried against tanks in 1940 in France. So in 1941 the Germans knew very well what those guns can do.

  • what is an assault gun?

  • basically a tank with no turret

  • @Tigergruppen88 an 'assault gun' is a self-propelled artillery gun

  • There were also 2 rare German 35 tons self propel guns adopted the 128mm pak L/61 & the chassis of the VK30.01(H) practiced in Russian front with numerous tank kills which were seldom mentioned. These 2 SPGs were as powerful as the Jadgtigers or even better with longer barrels.

  • There was a rarely Italian tank destroyer / SPG , the 17 tons M14/41 with 90mm gun similar to the fire power of the 88mm flak, the Germans took over them & practiced in N. Africa & Italy, but I don't know whether they deployed these weapons against the soviets or not.

  • Nice show. Just so everyone knows, the correct pronunciation of 'Nashorn' is 'Nahz-horn', not 'Nash-horn'.

  • Isn't ANY tank vunerable to anti-tank teams if they outrun their infantry support?? Doesn't matter if it has a machine gun or not... The elefant properly deployed should have preformed well.

  • @PanzerBuyer yeah it was a real beast

  • @PanzerBuyer

And they did, what seems to be forgotten in this show is the vast numer of soviet tanks and anti-tank guns destroyed by the ferdinands at Kursk, add to that further that the myth of infantry climbing on the vehicles and pouring gasoline inside is a big myth, just about every ferdinand lost was simply due to that the germans couldn't recover the ferdinand that had suffered damage to their suspension thanks to soviet and even german anti-tank mines.

  • i love this documentaries about tanks & others 2bn44 thanks & post more

  • On the rounds for the sturmtiger was printed; "avoid condensation and avoid contact with water!"....Just imagine lighting a wet fireworks rocket, not an easy task!

  • What's a Nashhorm?

  • @StaffanGoldschmidt make a google picture search and you´ll see...a vehicle based on the chassis of the panzer IV!

  • Well, thats a Nashorn not a Nashhorm!

  • @BigAndTall666, still you haven't given me the sollution for "Nashhorm" or "Nashorn", so?

  • @StaffanGoldschmidt it`s something like the stug.A very low silhouette armoured fighting vehicle,with a big gun stickin` out of it`s front.Nashorn=Nose horn

  • Frickin' sweet.

  • Such a sexy vehicle... possibly my favorite WW2 AFV.

  • it looks alot like my Sturmgeschütz ! :)

  • the sturmtiger is awesome, but using a crane to reload is crazy....but this was a siege vehicle,so i guess that's acceptable.A complete waste of precious resources in my opinion.

  • spem27,i hope you learned more from this doc than the shape of some guys head.haha

  • @noblepuker LOL Obviously, he didnt.

  • @noblepuker laughing at you own jokes... tragic

  • the head of that fat american guy looks like an egg

  • HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

    good call

  • @Spem27 you got that right.. xDD

  • @Spem27

you can shoot it out of the sturmtigers gun ^^

  • @Spem27 Ahhh come on man!!!! Be nice! Dr. William Atwater is fucking awesome!!! I love that fat bastard!

  • @Spem27 He is a decorated Viet-Nam vet, and has a Phd.

And you've contributed what 32 year old student???

  • @Spem27 i think his head looks more like a southern pear then an egg.

  • mave.foorumi.eu

  • @Spem27 Humpty Dumpty´s father....

  • @Spem27 a real life humpty dumpty

  • @Spem27 Your fascination with the shape of his head resembles a people who was also fascinated by the shapes of skulls. :-\

  • @Spem27 you hurt my feelings :(

  • pzr4 t34 & stg3 best tanks of ww2

  • Jagdpanther and Stug 3's all the way!

  • this is an awesome show

  • i like the strumtiger :D

  • Aye, the sturmtiger is awesome

  • In the picture of the german in the fighting compartment what is he holding in his finger?

  • i believe its the detonator...excuse the spelling...Cheers

  • Yeah.... a fuse/primer.

  • thx for uploading this is great

  • i saw it on Discovery Channel

  • Germans were to explore the recoiless rifle option earlier...the T-34 threat could have be neutralised...Like the 106mm mounted on light vehicles

  • I doubt it. recoiless guns aren't ideal anti-tank weapons 2/3 of the power of the propellant goes to canceling the recoil. severally handicapping muzzle velocity and penetration power for AP rounds

  • great, more staff, cheerszz lol
