why do people think that the non vtec can tach over 6500 when rev limiter wont let it. The dohc honda vtec engine was designed to turn 10,000 rpms max in which vtec kicks in at 6500 where the rev limiter would kick in on non vtec.
@panchovillaxx7 Ok, I'm not going to flame you cause you seem to not understand. That little bit of red paint on the tachometer does not determine your redline. That redline on the tachometer you see in the video is for the original 1986 Honda accord engine. I have a newer engine designed to rev past that up to 8K RPM. So yes you are correct in saying that it is bad for the engine, but ONLY if I had the original Accord motor with nothing done to it.
I have driven my '86 Accord nearly every day for the past 5 years. I'm so used to seeing that dashboard that I involuntarily freaked out a little when I saw the tach buried.
I currently have an 86 accord LX, with the a20. I have it as my daily driver now that I got the carb bugs worked out and the ignition is solid. Still gets 27 mpg too...verified it today...and its still a blast to drive, just because of the Independent Suspension. Not fast or sporty by todays standards, but those flip up headlights make me chuckle everytime...;)
@antaresguy so the 86 accord arent like the cb7's? where you can pull an f series motor out and directly swap an h22 to mounts and all? are the mounts even close to the right spot for an h22 swap?
@j0erayy no, unfortunitly the older accords are alot harder since they dont run full ecu, they run on a partial obdo system. the cb's and cd's accords were simple to swap for jdm h22a, we just got done doing one but we went from automatic to 5sp /lsd trans, it was a nightmare haha
Damn ive been doing hella research looking for swap instructions for this accord. my sister has the lx-i hatch. she's selling it to me for 500 bucks. i have a b18c jdm gsr motor i will check out the link to see how i can put that gsr on that accord.
Hey, was it difficult to mount the engine for the swap? I have an '87 lxi with the shitty a20 sohc, but I have a B20 vtec sitting that I wanted to swap into it, but a friend of mine told me that the mounts for this generation accord make it a pain in the ass, is that true?
You have the hatchback so yours isn't as wack as mind, I have a 4DR DX. I can't wait to get another whip. My Dad was supposed to get me a 99 Civic which really is a sick car to own but he didin't have enough money and i ended up with this ugly ass thing.
the 3rd generation accords are great cars lol. whoever told you they suck sucks! They are like the old Toyota Camrys, just keep going and going and going...
Before you start speaking like an idiot you should check out the link in the more info section. Its called an ENGINE SWAP. LS/Vtec are not even a factory engine for any cars. Do some research!
so your saying that vtec arent in any stock hondas? well you already look like an idiot because your completely wrong.Well lets see here the 5th gen accord has an f22b1 VTEC in it,Early preludes and late models have a H22 VTEC in them. So you do some research before you think you know hondas.
Is this a joke, I know Vtec motors come from hondas. What I am saying is that an LS/Vtec motor never came an any cars. It is a hybrid motor between a non-vtec b18, and with a Vtec head.
Yh thats what I thought, would be weird if you had an aerodeck, but as far as I knew, they still werent delivered with DOHC engines. So if there was a DOHC engine, it must have come with the usdm 86 hatchback, In any case, swap or not, thats one sweet ride!
obviously it had a engine swap as well, to my knowledge, no 86 Accord Aerodeck 2.0 hatchbacks were delivered with DOHC engines. I recognize that steeringwheel and dashboard, and I`m sure its a 86 Aerodeck 2.0, but probably with B16 or B18 or B20 swap.

I don't think they ever made VTEC engines to Accord. Not even JDM models. And this car is NOT moving at all. My guess is that someone jacked up front of the car.
dude, u don seem to kno nothing about cars....i was surprised to drive a honda right hand obviously JDM that had a vtec!!! it was a 91... i got a test drive...
but 98+ years have stock Vtec`s i wish they had Dohc instead of SOHC!!
God damn!!! People who commented below are effing retarded!!!

I've never had that problem with a fresh vtec motor. Guess it really depends on how old the thing is.

Nope, it's real. I've seen it in person. I actually bought an 89 Accord Sedan from him for a parts car.
You are right though, the accords didnt come with a Vtec engine, unless you take it to Antares shop!
