My only complaint about Kurzweil is that they always been the most expensive keyboards than any competitor. To make an actual comparasen, would be best to have a Hammond tone wheel organ and Leslie 122 tone cabinet and a Kurzweil next to each other. The playing style is of a Hammond organ player, but I am not convinced that Kurzweil can come close.
@patsaxon There is a video uploaded that does exactly that comparison, with this keyboard - Kurzweil were expensive, but this board only cost 900 euros new (1200 US dollars), and their latest with the same sounds as this one, but with less features, is cheaper still
An awesome sounding organ is the Wurlitzer 4500 and 4300. The Wurlitzer SpectraTone is crossed over for excellent 2'&4' tibia. There's 8 speaking in the organs with louvers on the top for player rotary sound- best seat in the house. You can get this tone with a Wurli, but you can't get the Wurli tone w/ a Hammond. I love Hammond too, but these mellow tones you're playing are awesome on a Wurlitzer:)
( Oh' that comment I just made was to do with the freakin blowback from a Run Pa' commercial.)
oysterlovers, I am using your video to practice my technique (and copy yours). Is that a song you are playing (or just a jam)? If it's a song could you give me the name.
@bobspez Hey there - it's just something I created - I'm actually looking for a vocal to go with it - there's a version on soundcloud which you'll be able to jam with, coz it doesn't have the organ lead on it - it's called slow blues mixdown (needs vocal) under the name of oysterlovers.
@bobspez Hey - the base key that it's in is C, but the verse starts on a G major - so the first chords are ; Intro ; G/E bass ,F - then - Verse ; G , F ,C , G ,F ,C, Am ,G ,F ,C ,Dm7 ,C/E bass,F - F C/E bass Dm C. Then the bridge goes to an Ebmaj7, but you can still solo using the key of C.
If you are looking for a keyboard that makes this sound and an cannot afford the £1000, take a look at the Casio CTK 7000 -61 keys £299 or the Casio WK 7500 78keys£399 They both have 8 draw bars and 50 adjustable organ sounds plus 3 degrees of rotary. four or five of the draw bar sounds are getting close to this I bought the WK, worth the extra £100 they are on utube, best review is at casioaustralia01 good luck
@oysterlovers We play vst on gigs all the time; just get yourself a MAC Pro with Cubase or similar if you play one sound at a time or use Forte Ensamble 2.0 if you need layering. A good Master KB for piano sound and a waterfall Keyb for organs and solos
@Senj1n I set up VST on my laptop and got a pretty decent sound. The killer, though is latency. If you have top notch equipment, some people say latency is not a problem, but I don't. I routed my midi keyboard into my laptop, to VSTI host Reaper loaded with two organ and one leslie VST, out to my Zoom R16 digital recorder which was playing a drum track. The sound was not a PC3LE6 to be sure , but OK. Then I started to play and sing and the keyboard was about 100ms behind my voice.
@Senj1n Yes I can tell a difference between a consumer keyboard and a professional software. After 35 years of playing Hammond organs, arranging and producing I can even tell a difference between a real musician and a techno kid. ^___^
@aageon Our kb player owns a Hammond B3 with 2 leslies and obviously he does not take it out of the studio for gigs. He's also a demonstrator for Mogar which, in my country, is the label that distributes Nord products. On stage though, he uses an Oberheim 2000 master Kb with Ivory piano sound and for all the Hammond sounds he plays a waterfall KB with VB-3 from GSI. He repairs Hammond Organs and believe me he's got good ears.
Best B3 sound I've heard, really superb, great tune and playing. Did you create the whole of the backing track or was any of it a built in rythym section on the Motif ? I dont know the tune, what is it ? Some great chord changes in there. Do you rate this over the motif ? I am having keyboards on home trial before buying, and after great piano and organ sounds preferably with graded hammer.
@keysrme123 Yeah good question - it was because I had already finished the backing track on my Yamaha before I bought the Kurzweil - it's a backing track for a vocal, but thought it would be nice to upload it with the organ sound on my new Kurzweil !
@HelimanZ06 Thanks for the comments - The foot controller I'm using here is the Music Store VFP sustain pedal - but the Kurzweil comes with it's own sustain pedal. For the organ sound , I've changed the sound so that the pedal works BOTH as rotary speaker on/off AND sustain . The presets on the Kurzweil automatically turn the sustain function off for all organ sounds, because it doesn't exist on the original organs .
Great video, mate. I'm selling my nord stage ex and getting a kurz pc3. Bloody Clavia is way way too expensive and overrated for what it has to offer, their keyboards look flashy and all but that's about it.

@oysterlovers I've been jamming with the soundcloud file. Can you tell me what key it's in (C and F chords seem to work)? It's a great song!

@oysterlovers Thanks for the chords and keys! It's a song that keeps rolling around in my mind. I get lost in it. Beautiful to jam to.

My God, what a beautiful lead organ tone. Is there anything else coloring the sound?
Or is this just the hammond sound right out of the kurzweil being recorded?
bobspez 3 weeks ago
@bobspez Just the hammond sound straight from the Kurzweil - it's a great keyboard

@oysterlovers Thanks for the info and for posting.

Im waiting for Kurzweil to bring out a new Keyboard with more memory and better synth
sounds. More memory for sampling. Large interface screen would be nice too. It doesn't have to be touch but that seems to be where its going.

If you try VB-3 vst by GSI you won't play any other hammond-like stuff anymore..... it's way superior to all the rest.

@iononcentro yeah, if only I could easily use VST's on a gig

@iononcentro If you don't hear the difference between a VST and the Kurzweil you are operating only at 50% as a musican/producer..

@iononcentro The Nord Stage 2/C2 Hammond sounds are still superior than VST's :)

I'd like to know, if you were demonstrating a Kurzweil, why did you elect to use the background sounds from a Yamaha Motif?

May I ask what type of foot controller do you use?
Great sound and an amazing display of talent on this as well as all of your videos!
I have a Motif XS but am quite mediocre. It is really cool to see what it is capable of when the appropriate amount of skill is applied.
