Beautiful images. Egypt really has some beautiful architecture but the people just don't seem to appreciate it because the throw all their rubbish around the wonderful sites : ( Why is that?
I've lived in Cairo for almost 3 years now and I still can't get used to the careless attitude (mostly) on the part of the natives about cleanliness. They really do throw garbage in the streets and mistreat the "jewel of the Nile". If they would take more pride in their precious city/country/waterways, more people would want to come!
I agree, the problem is that the poor areas and the poor people are ignored by the Goverment then they dont care about the country...Also they dont teach kids cleanliness in the Schools...but things are getting better. What we need is not more cleaning companies, but EDUCATE YOUNGSTERS, More Trashcans, then a LAW and FINES for those who throw garbage in the streets!
Maybe someone will see this dialog & it will make a difference. For all of those who are thinking about visiting Egypt, DO NOT hesitate. It truly is beautiful, but (for those from the West) different from what you may be used to. Living here has truly changed my life for the better and I don't regret it for an instant. I am just simply stating "what if?", the people of Egypt would recognize what potential they have as a country/culture and act accordingly...

Thanks for your reply...
FYI, I live in Maadi, which is NOT poor, and it's still littered up, shamefully.
We have flats that rent for more than $5,000 USD a month with trash all over the road in some areas. I do agree, however, that education is key!
