Border didn't get much funding, from ITV Because there was only one broadcasting Studio. Shared for other programs, but screened off for the use, of the local news program "LOOKAROUND" too! Border relied on TV advertisements, too!
The Border idents were possibly the dullest throughout the whole ITV network. Still captions with no music for the first twenty years or so, then relying heavily upon the ITV 1989 genric music until they eventually came up with a half-arsed jingle shortly before ITV gobbled up the regions anyway. And the only programme which I can think of which was fully networked by the region was Mr and Mrs. Sorry to those who live in the Border region, but it was a poor relation to other networks.
They only copied Granada, Granada used exactly the same ident from 1968 until 1986, and even then they only tilted the logo a bit and coloured it silver. Granada's idents remained 2 dimensional until 1995. Although Granada had several advantages over Border, Border only had two networked programmes (Mr & Mrs and Look Who's Talking, both starring Derek Batey) whereas Granada was one of the 'big three' (along with Thames and ATV)
can anyone remember when Border TV closed down for an hour at lunchtime, must of been in the 70's. Been looking for footage, as I want to hear the music they played.
