I hope WCBS FM never ever goes back to that JACK FM format. That was the worst radio programming I ever heard and to say the least,it sounded cold and very un-human.
With regards to 80's music being played on CBS-FM, back in the 80's they played the then-current hit music sporadically, especially on Mark Sommers' shift. Remember when Cousin Brucie had the Wednesday "Yesterday/Today" countdown? And the jingle "101 Yesterday...drumroll...101 Today"? Back in the mid-late 80's, when most of Top 40 radio was still flexible enough to be heard anywhere, CBS-FM played it. That's something a lot of people seem to forget.
Blowing up CBS-FM, though never intended as a radio stunt, was the best thing to happen to the station. Ratings were only modest by the end of the first era, as people took the station for granted. But when it was gone, there was a massive awakening among New Yorkers who promised to pay much more attention to the station if it was brought back. Promise kept: It's now among the four highest-rated stations in the market.
That dude who said hes been there for 3 years and thought that going to the JACK format was great, is such a corporate kiss ass jerkoff, wtf does he know about what new yorkers wanted from CBS 101? Jesus, they are all corporate a-holes, just to listen to them makes my stomache ache. "celebrates its past" what a load of crap!

Imagine considering 80's tunes oldies? Please get real with oldies or just refer to yourself an AOR (all over the road) format!

Now if they'd go back to playing anything before 1964.

Where's Jack Armstrong?
