  • for HD /watch?v=uLBAj10GyLM

  • damn, after practicing this song and getting it down, this is actually pretty slow hahaha (its slower than some people might exaggerate), there is one video where the tempo is way faster and i favor that one more.

  • I used to play faster than this, then I took an arrow to the knee.

  • if you wanna play like him, you do need a teacher, no way..... i can show you one of the best... ask me by email :)

  • She's got man hands!

  • where does the armonic?

  • The SHUMACHER of guitars :)))

  • wow, at 0:00 he used the force to start the backing track :o .... also, I want my own dungeon, too!

  • why is do you say dominant when you talk about the phrygian mode of the harmonic minor?

  • @Wiltonibanez because that mode is phrygian dominant

  • @Wiltonibanez dominant is the fifth degree of a scale. In this case if we have E minor, B phrygian will be the dominant mode of E minor.

  • Thank you for posting this properly as Yngwie J. Malmsteen so we don't confuse him with the plethora of other Yngwie Malmsteen's out there! ;-) that always cracked me up..... And yes, he is a god!

  • I like how he chose to mix up the triad phrasing in the A minor passage. On the original recording, he only arppegiates up, but arpeggiates down and up/down here.

  • 0:00 with one hand he started the musica , what a fucking god....

  • It is PHRYGIAN DOMINANT, not harmonic minor as you stated, it is the 5th mode of h minor however, ie F# phr Dom, which is B har minor starting on the 5th.

  • @ben666wraith who cares?

  • heh heh "h minor" can you name the notes of that scale please?

  • @chococoplex lol yep its, H, I, Jb, kb. L, M, Nb, glad to be of musical assistance dude.

  • @ben666wraith awesome! what did you actually mean?

  • @chococoplex well the notes of harmonic minor scale are Aeolian (natural minor scale) with the 7th note played sharp. Whereas phrygian dominant is phrygian tonality(3rd mode of the major scale) but with the 3rd degree played sharp. This is the 5th mode of the harmonic minor scale.

  • @ben666wraith

Looks like elements on the periodic table lol

  • search for the : World Best Blues Improvisation 2011

    you'll like it

  • LOL in the beginning it sais Harmonic Minor, but this is actually one of the few licks which is not in Harmonic minor. Its in Phrygian Dominant

  • @FeltBikes4eva Phrygian Dominant is the fifth mode of the harmonic minor scale. Therefore, whenever the chord progression moves to an Ab5 powerchord, he is playing Ab harmonic minor, and whenever he plays over an Eb5 powerchord, he is playing Eb Phrygian Dominant. Therefore, you are sadly incorrect.

  • @HeavyBlueMetal I do understand you, but they are not the same scales when they have a different root note... That's why there are different names for each mode

  • @HeavyBlueMetal I dont know my theory. But good job lmao

  • No se pero toca bien la fender .Un maestro

  • No se pero toca bien la fender .

  • g harmonic minor scale.

  • Hey! That's not Harmonic Minor! .. Man, you have to read your theory! .. Thats phrygian dominant not harmonic minor!

  • taught myself this song, so simple what hes doing (apart from the speed)

  • that hand gesture at 0:00 is full of power.

  • @ImperialArmour He makes the backing track start by the power of his hand.

  • @nickd3309 ....they are jealous and ignorant... That about covers it . I used to think Yngwie walked on water lol ... or sold his soul to satan.. either way he's still one of my all time favs.

  • my dad even thinks this guy plays fabulous and he likes classical music!

  • 13 FAGS !! OR MAYBE THIER FINGER SLIPPED LOL

  • i know a lot of you are thinking "speed isn't always good" thats true, MOST of the time. Yngwie is one of the exceptions. His speed follows scales and time signatures. thats what makes him great.

  • i still appreciate the guy though, he is just doing what he loves most, and i think he happy with that..

  • he is a god.. and thanks for the scale info! now we can play it hahah

  • I like how you point out it's a harmonic minor scale - for the Yngwie fans who didn't know already...

  • If you think this tune is shitty, listen to the full version... I don't know how you can say this is bad though...

  • I love how Yngwie is playing in a castle or dungeon in this vid, that's so metal. he's rioting in his dungeon.

  • This video amazes me ever time I watch it. He is so good it's sickning.

  • this bend 0:30 is epic and we cannot find this on other recordings

  • @arekmondo epic? he made a mistake so he bend that string to make it sound like it should be like that...

  • @axl2002 for me it sounds better than original and that he could repair his failure in that style makes him even better :d

  • @axl2002 HAHA You try improving like that. bitch go die in a hole.

  • @Masterboychris U want me to die? Well I want to fuck your mothers sweet ass, best regards :*

  • That wasn't amazin at all.... Except for the amazingness!!! Said Brett

  • the reality is...SOMEWHERE out there, theres a guitarist whos better than yngwie and vai combined.

  • @HKDrider His name is Shawn Lane

  • @HKDrider unlikely

  • @HKDrider his name is Jason Becker....... who at his 16 was better than them, you should look him up

  • @enematrocoya dang, i looked him up, you might be right

  • yngwie sheds too fast..

  • @TheMrhorseface11 thats why its called shredding :P and arppegios

  • yeah, he has very good pick speed (and i have respect for him), but.. it's not everything! imagine slow ballad with solo like this.. where is the feeling? where are emotions?

  • one of the most skilled guitarists ever. But he's the most boring and repetetive guitarist ever.

  • i love the beginning, but the arpeggios sound so cheesy - like summit out of a tom and jerry cartoon

  • I dont dislike Yngwie or his playing style, but there is only so many times you can shred on a harmonic minor and call it something new.

  • One of the best guitarist of the history!

  • fucking fat malmsteen he's unveliavable

  • @sephiroth2711 fat as in badass or fat because he got fat? lol

  • This is crazy!

  • simply the best!

  • yngwie malmsteen fucking awesome!

  • nice shirt

  • @qaz121212 yep . like in the 1800's :D

  • @Flakevee they played that fast back then?

  • @0kill13 i was talking about his shirt.

  • PertriAL. Honestly I hated yngwie. But when u don't like people for there style esspecially if they play like this.. there's something wrong with ya. So I learned to play a lot of shreddin music and of all the stuuff"jason becker, steve vai, eric jonhnson, dime bag, randy rhoads," yngwie songs were the hardest and I have yet to have a challenge harder then this guy and the closest was jason becker. But yea if I never put aside hating the eighties and shredd music.I wouldn't have ben able to play it

  • @nickd3309 I would recommend taking a look at Buckethead. I'm sure you've already heard of him, but if you haven't you should take a peek.

  • te amo yngwie, me encanta tu estilo de tocar la guitarra, simplemente hermoso mucha pasion por el instrumento mucha alma, la verdad es que me encataria ser como vos, te admiro mucho.

veni a la argentina por favor te amo yngwie

  • Very high level of guitar. Indeed, it is the largest példaképem.Yngwie Malmsteen Master.

  • yeah yngwie is king

  • @JO7106

    yep, in a different way

  • Yngwie is the King!!!

  • @cioaeuirtert Shut up queerbait!

  • It´s so fucking badass I cant beliefe it.

next year I wanna play this one.

But clean. Not like these wannabe kids that sound like shit.

every note has to be an orgasm

20 orgasms per second gives you the ultimate heaven

malmsteen and jason make me cum D:

  • its because he plays with all 22 of his his frets scalloped. he doesnt have to try to sound clean, none of his notes are going to sound dingy. these "kids" you speak of probably can't afford and do not want a guitar with all scalloped frets. i personally think it would be embarrassing to own one.

  • well, scalloped frets are pretty nice to play on.

I scalloped fret 24-12 on my Ibanez myself

  • doesn't it make it too easy though?

  • In no way ;)

It´s not easier and not harder. It´s just a matter of tatse I guess.

The thing thats usefull about it, is that you are forced to play with an exact and good technique.

But after a while you get used to it.

Of course your beding and vibrato becomes different ;)

But when I play my guitar it´s just a different feeling on the strings, wich I prefer.

But it´s not easier. That would be cheating, wouldn´t it? like : scallope your fretboard and you´ll become malmsteen

  • hey i'm thinking of scalloping my strat any tips?

  • but strats have 21 frets... ?

  • ah yes, i suppose, at first glance it looks like 22. On my strat I have 21 as well. I was really disappointed at first until I realized that was the norm! haha

I almost wanted to return my guitar, like i felt like I had been cheated almost lmao. I don't understand why someone would stick to a strat if they have the money to buy something with a couple more frets? I use all 24 on my warlock often.

  • yeah I felt cheated too when i found out it was 21... I was like WHAT BUT MOST MEGADETH SOLOS USE FRETS 22-24 NOOOOO

  • @DjN1te

the neck pup is right on the harmonic, this gives it a quality which is really hard to explain when your playing at 12th fret position.

i have a 22 fret strat, the rosewood board over hangs from the neck slightly which allows room for an extra fret.

  • But keep in mind he's a half step down.

  • G Phrygian Dominant is the scale being used during 0:00 - 0:25. Which is

    G Ab B C D Eb F G

which is the fifth mode of

    C Harmonic minor.

But at the second movement 0:26

He switches to A harmonic minor

    A B C D E F G# A. Until 0:55 where he switches back to G Phrygian Dominant. Then at 1:06 A Harmonic Minor again and then it ends. Hope I helped!

  • the 0:55 part sounds pretty much like C major ionian,i tried to practice it that way and sounds way more clear

  • Last time I checked C ionian doesn't have Ab and

    Eb.....

  • true,but i think it sounds cooler

  • Look at his picking hand, very little movement, the way its supposed to be!

  • peter

  • I give Masa, i give!

  • YEAHH AMEN!!

  • even if this were slow mo this would be fast lol.

  • hamonic scales aka malmsteen style LOL

  • is it A harmonic minor?

  • G minor

  • g harmonic minor?

  • I'm a noob at guitar and my friend wants me to learn this...fun.

  • you'll be able to pull it off one day don't worry ;) He never said "YOU MUST LEARN TO PLAY IT FOR TOMMOROW" rofl

  • True...my friend already has half of it down. It's the 2 string sweeping that throws him off!

  • same with me, what you can do is, play them backwards (theres live videos of yngwie doing this, so its not cheating) see what i mean?

  • how about buying a Vileda brushstick ? It will sweep all the crap around the house.

  • Great vid !!

  • he changes it up every time he plays it. the main sweeping riff is crazy in this video

  • fucking MASTERpiece!!!

  • im having trouble with the sweeps any advice?

  • practice on two strings first

  • practicing on 2 strings sucks... you cant even sweep that.. its much easier to sweep 3 strings than 2 in my opinion.

  • oh u can sweep on 2 strings all it takes is a bit of determination and practice. I should know I have done it many times, and plus ur the one who was asking for advice.

  • @GitarenEnBananen:

That's a pretty ignorant approach to take - yes three string sweeps are probably easier, but to get two string sweeps clean takes more practice in my opinion. Just because you're only doing them on two strings doesnt make it any less of a sweep motion.

Anyway, I'm not usually a fan of Ynqwie's music, nor do I really like the album version of this song, but this recording is really great - a real motivator for picking up my own guitar.

  • @GitarenEnBananen 2 string isnt really a true full sweep motion as its is more economy picking/ alt pick than the actual sweep motion however they are good to practice anyways as they can sound good

  • go slow, may seem tedious, but it's what will get you sounding loud and clear like a pro in fastest time. When you want to quit, just say no, and keep on it, you will get it even if you only have a thumb on the fretboard haha

  • wawawiwa!!

  • speechless

  • Just a Freak! Truely amazing to watch. One thing to hear him shread... but watching how effortlessly he does it... I am always in awe... Anyone who bad- mouths YJM is just plain wrong.

  • Yngwie Malmsteen and this song can't be described in words of how awesome they truely are.

  • i thinks my head just exploded from the epicness.

  • mine too xddd

  • how are people even aloud to say yngwie sucks?. they must be stuck in the sixteis and are pissed off cuz they dont have the skill or time to come close to playing it.

  • @nickd3309 allowed. They arent allowed, they are retards and doesn't know better

  • I agree 100%, Yngwie deserves as much respect as any other guitarist should have, reguarding Jason Becker, Shawn Lane, Micheal Angelo Batio, Paul Gilbert, ETC ETC. After all he is a hero to some of those guitarist to lol, ynwgie pulls off amazing scales and arpeggios FROM HELL.

  • @gatler05 i agree with you ... there so many guitarrist that kick ass anda they arent reconize as others that really sucks

  • @nickd3309 cuz his song writing is terrible. Awsome playing, awful song writing,

  • @icemanisdangerous AWFUL SONG WRITTING!??!!?! WHAT THE FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!! Hear the song "You dont remember. i'll never forget" Its fucking rad and composed by God here.

  • @nickd3309 Yngwie sucks because his music is riddled with inconsistency and tasteless bravado.

  • Yeah, this guy is good. There are hoards of great players, but this dude is a magician.

  • @onethousandflushes ...and then came Mattias Ia Eklundh from Freak Kitchen :-)

  • @onethousandflushes look up a guy named daniel owen.... malmsteens worst nightmare

  • @n1ghtshad0w That dude is good indeed but speed is not anything.

Besides that he plays in a totally different style.

If there is a Neo-Classical nighmare for Yngwie than it would be Kelly Simonz.,

That guy combines feeling and speed in a amazing way.

  • fucking fantastic, no one can even come close to immitating Yngwie, he is the best at what he does.

  • Greatest master !!!

  • Hes a pirate haha

  • humbucking

  • Comment removed

  • Can anyone understand what hes playing 0:37 - 0:40??

  • What do you mean?

  • Like im trying to tab out this song, and that part is to damn fast to do!

  • hahaha he is like a metal mozart

  • what is his pickup that he is using now ?

  • I believe it's the Dimarzio HS-3 in bridge and his signature Dimarzio YJM in the neck.

  • BEST OF THE BEST

  • My No.1 !!! Guitarist Ever...*_*

  • those arpeggios...what are they?! They sound so nice...

  • two strings sweeping arpeggios

  • Right yeah ive been learning the CD version for almost a year now, but this version sounds muuuch better, and the arpeggios sound somewhat different in this version. Could you be more specific at all?

  • i play guitar, too and i like yngwie so much

i learn this song.too yea it s very difficult

but i think the arpeegio part isn`t that hard as it sound it

  • He's playing the notes backwords. It is very hard but if you stretch out and play three notes on each string top it works better. Once you do it a few times, you wont go back to sweeping those notes.

  • OMG YES ok thank you so so so so so much, its like 1am but ima try and doodle a little bit now! If you have any more info to give on it at all please add another comment! I find it incredibly hard to figure stuff at this speed out, your awesome man!

  • Im compiling something one guitar pro that i'll put up on some tab website once its done, so far im getting something that sounds similar...mabye someone else can change it around a bit later :)

  • I desperately need tabs for this version! If anyone has them could you please contact me?

  • whats with the quality? did you videotape your monitor or something?

  • it's an old vhs, and the quality isn't that bad ...

  • see my trigonomotry riff

  • thats actually the phrygian dominant scale not the harmonic minor.....

  • they're relevant

  • i mean relative

  • Hmm, I know the phrygian mode, but what happens when you throw dominant in there, what changes?

  • The only difference between phrygian and phrygian dominant is that the third note is raised a half step (hence dominant because the 7th chord stucture will be M3, P5, M7). The reason the third is raised is because in harmonic minor (which is relative to phryg. dom.) has a raised 7th.

  • Ahhhh, that makes more sense now

    Thanks!

  • it becomes the dominant mode of the harmonic minor scale. that is to say, that the minor 3rd of the phrigian scale becomes a major 3rd.

  • 0;27 - he does mistakes?

  • yeah it sounds pretty messed up alright

  • damn I gotta learn that

  • he uses Dunlop Delrin 1.15mm :P

  • its 1.9mm

  • are you eny good at rock band lol

  • You have to give it to him. He crashed in 88 I believe and lost the use of his right hand/arm.

He pushed himself to play again, though it is different if you look back to pre crash but better at the same time, and went on to record Odyssey.

Personally, I think Yngwie's prime was Trilogy. You could hear some of the slop on Od like there was on RF. But he got it all back and then some.

I golf clap him for that. I just wish he was humble and not so arrogant in person.

  • Yeah, his playing was never quite as clean after the crash. He also switched to the more blunt Dunlop picks after that. The flatter Fender Extra Heavy picks bite the strings a bit more. His earlier picking sounded more crisp because of it.

  • That's weird. I saw him on the Trilogy tour and got a pick, and the tour after the accident and got a pick. They were both Fender extra heavy's. He must have switched later.

  • what accident

  • He was in a near fatal car crash and lost the ability to use his right arm.

  • how can he still perform then at least god didnt die

  • Through alot of physical therapy he gained the use of his arm back, but had to relearn to pick.

So, if you watch older pre 89-90 videos, you'll see his picking is a bit different.
