Wow !!!! What a rare piece of film. It is an incredible treat to see Elkie perform so early in her career.
Prior to YouTube, the earliest footage I had seen of her was from the "Pearl's a Singer" era.
I'm so used to seeing her with her long, lustrous 70's hairstyles, I don't think I would have recognized her with her 60's 'bob' ! She was cute then, and she's darn hot now.
Something about this video keeps luring me back. I couldn't tell you how many times I have watched it. I don't know how old she was in this but probably pretty young yet the voice is of someone much more experienced. She really is quite extraordinary.
Take my word for it, Elkie is at her very, very best performing live, in front of an audience. I have been to eighteen shows and I never tire of watching and listening to her.
According to Elkie's publicist (when I inquired quite some time ago) there are NO plans to reissue this early material on CD. That is a shame as I'd love to find a copy in any format! If you want to dig it out and make a CD, I'd be the first to put in an order!!!
I am quite sure, that, would I or anybody commence to privately distribute home-made CDs of those records, old or not, some authority would send out a bunch of their usual ugly looking secretaries to ring at my door and do terrible sings to me.
I deem it, though, unjust, that the natural evolution of technology should oblige me to "pay" once more for the more or less same product, that I have already purchased, before. That was around 1990 in Frankfurt, Germany.
Clever comment jfab64. Elkie was to be compared to Janis Joplin later on in the band Vinegar Joe.Perhaps the comparisons should have been reversed ...
I agree the seed was there most certainly - but it's almost unrecognizable with Elkie's voice later on - still I guess that's what 20 years experience does for a talented singer.
awesome! )) anyone seen same thing, with stage perfomance but maybe a bit better sounds quality?

Crikey. She was only 19. Unbelievable. What a find - saw her live this evening and this is amazing to see now 45 years later!

- hey, thats a gem! - first saw Elkie in Vinegar Joe in a local club in 1972 - still have her autograph from the gig. great band, great singer.
It probably did her career good to leave VJ but they were a unique band while it lasted.

Elkie was about 18 or 19 here. Fantastic voice. Sounds even better today. I would love to see in concert. Maybe I will get to the U. K. one day.

Has there been a CD-release of "The Early Years"? I somehow missed to digitize this one from vinyl and do not want to move the Hi-Fi yet again...
And from the 10 stars this video would earn, I give the 5 available on YouTube.

There is a typo, but it looks well-placed, so... whatever ;-)

This is pretty edgy. I like her phrasing that occurs around 1:02; it sort of predates the type of phrasing Janis Joplin would do.

on a tangent: curved air was called the response to it's a beautiful day who were called a response to jefferson airplane.
You make up your own opinion but I like Elkie Brooks and I like Sonja Kristina Linwood.

Again Elkie proves at any age 19, she could sing fantastically. I guess this was too good for the charts.
