Is the blood flushed down into the public sewer system and if so, isn't that dangerous? Sewage back-up incidents happen now and then and people end up with sewage in the lower level of their homes. I hate to think that sewage may have diseased human blood in it along with everything else. UGH.
I didnt like the way my father looked when he died. I told them right when I saw him that they did a horrible job and that it wasn't my father in the casket. I was so mad.
Im a junior in high school and I want to know as much as I can about embalming but it seems as though everyone thinks im some sort of insane creep.. Totally not case ! The video was really awesome, Thank you (: !
I've always known that this is my calling in life and my family has never approved. I finally start school this Fall! In the end, my family will need me... I'll make you look better than ever, baby;)
I could imagine modernized cannibals talking how they celebrate their loved ones by eating their corpses and how great it is... .. Then we mash up the bones and mix it in the brain soup.. it's so great to know I am making them part of me.. "hey pass me that finger over their and the ketchup. " , "Alright, who ate grandma's eyes?
well what the lady said about when she was in 9th grade and went to the grandparents funeral.. that is when she decided to become a mortican.... well that is what happen to me..... one that sad day when i was 13 . walked up to my cousin casket... it was a disgrace...... the makeup wasnt right at all.... you know i am a girl who love my make up so i knw when our make up is a mess and when its not
A compassionate funeral director is so important. My grandma had a welfare burial, which doesn't usually allow for a visitation, but the funeral director we chose waived the fee and there was a visitation. He also gave her a little bit fancier cloth-covered coffin than he had to. He really went out of his way for us, and his kindness is still remembered.
The book referred to is "The Principles and Practice of Embalming", 5th Edition by Clarence G Strub and L G "Darko" Frederick. People in funeral service refer to it informally as "Freddy and Strub." It's the definitive textbook on embalming and required reading for any student

I like what the person said about children 2-10 years of age. My cousin was 9 when he passed away and it was a pitch fork that killed him. it was an accident and it happened in front of me. Giving you the short story, he and I were at the family farm jumping into hay off the upper area of the barn. Someone had put the pitch fork facing up and when he jumped far enough to one side the fork went into him. i went to get help right away and he survived for a week. I really miss him.
Thanks for the video! :) Very interesting to watch. I'm interning right now at a Funeral Home. So most of the things in the video i am familiar with except the embalming process because I am not allowed in the embalming room while it's occupied. Interesting to learn about the tools and such. Thanks again!
Thank you for the post I start my MORT classes this summer, i've done some work in funeral service but i am still very green and very excited about this last year and summer .
It would be such a comfort to know that people like THESE are caring for and performing the final necessary things for your loved one. God Bless Them!
This video demonstrates why I left clinical healthcare and went into deathcare. It's good to feel like you've helped someone on the worst day of their life when someone they love dies. It's a great feeling to ease soneone else's pain.
@scott29501 Thanks for sharing that. For a long time, I thought I wanted to be a surgeon, but I've wanted to be a mortician for longer, and that's what I intend to be. The science of it has always interested me, and it's nice to know I'll be helping people through a rough time in their lives. Besides, I come from a long line of morticians, it's just seems right :P
How long were you in healthcare before you went into the funerary business?
Thank you for this video! I'm about to begin studying funeral service (moving into my dormitory friday actually!). It was really encouraging to see young women active in this field, as I've gotten the "isn't that a man's job?" thing a bit already.
I'm so glad you liked the video. From what I observed, women are quickly outnumbering men in this field. It is such an important job I think it is great that more women are getting involved. I'm sure you will excel in your studies.

This video is very well done. Detailed touches, like washing the hearse after the mention of the airplane ash scattering, make this clip wonderful. Another thing I've noticed, especially in the prep room, is that it may look creepy, but I find it very warming and relaxing, like I'm in a dream-like state. Becoming comfortable within, it's no longer disturbing.
Thank you for the video. I am in my second year of school for funeral services. This is truly my calling in life, this is what i am passionate about. I am having a hard time getting placed in a funeral home for practicum and my embalming classes, do you have any advice for me. Ifso please email me at powelld0821@yahoo.com.
This was a great video. I am an apprentice funeral director/embalmer and these people hit the nail on the head. That is the reason I wnt into funeral service too. I feel like I could do better and I feel like it is my calling. Again, great video!
Thanks for your question. There are indeed such laws in Canada and the people working in that funeral home do wear protective gear when actually handling any deceased persons.
I assume this is in Canada. Does Canadian Laws not require them to wear protective clothing when working with the bodies? Here in the US in most states it is required that the embalmers wear protective clothing to prevent spread of diseases and infections.

at about 5 minutes into this video the lady embalmer they are interviewing talks about a book she read when she first became interested in this field. I can't quite make it out, sounds like freddy and straub? She relates it to the bible of funeral services. Has anyone had any luck finding this book as I would be interested in reading it but have come up with nothing on google. Please help if you can. Thanks! Great video too..very informative.
