  • One hell of a fighter!

  • What a lame song for boxing

  • LMAO JACK FUCKIN THESE STUPID CRACKERS UP FUCKIN WHITE MAN CANT FUCK WITH JAKE

  • @veroviewer The term 'cracker' comes from the times when the slave master would 'crack' his whip. To use the word 'cracker' as an insult only goes to show how stupid you are.

    And who's "Jake"? lol

    You're such a walking stereotype.

  • One of the bests ever, in my opinion.

Jack Johnson, Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano, Cassius Clay, George Foreman.

    I choose them.

  • DIRTY BASTARD was head-butting Jack at 3:47

  • Watch guys like Larry Holmes and lennox Lewis and you will see just how much Jack Johnson influenced them....great great fighter, extraordinary, extra terrestrial human being from another planet, too great for this planet maybe...

  • why dont they have him on any boxing games

  • @Texa5Swanga lol, probably because his style of fighting is way different from boxers in the last 50 years. In Jack's time matches could go on for over 80 rounds, so it'd be kinda difficult to recreate it for a game (although it would be awesome to play).

  • haha u couldnt have picked a worse soundtrack. Ruined the whole thing

  • What Jack Johnson did was amazing considering how racist America was back then, with that said, it did seem like most of his wins came against midgets or a guy who'd been retired for 6 yrs. They were physical mismatches. I think his F U to white America at the time was a much bigger accomplishment. How he remained alive during those times is unbelievable. That's what makes him great to me.

  • If you want to see good fights look up moonmanwalker

  • Good montage thx for posting.

  • Marciano > Joe Louis > Dempsey > Than the rest...

  • If you seriously believe Marciano is better than Joe louis or even Muhammad Ali, you're insane.

  • I can't weigh in on Joe Louis. He's confusing to me and probably a lot better than I have personally observed.

  • agreed. this isn't an insult to marciano, he can beat just about any champ there is, but no one beats joe louis imo. he could just beat you anyway he wanted. marciano could apply the pressure to ali and perhaps hurt him a few times, but i don't think he had the footspeed frazier had that would allow him to throw ali off the same way joe did.

  • idk bud, marciano fucked joe louis up. even tho i know joe louis was old. he still should of atleast been able to do something. and as far as im concerned muhammad ali lost his title three times. four times if u count when he got striped of them. O WAIT MARCIANO NEVER LOST

  • Yeah?

Neither did Joe Calzaghe and he is no Muahmmad Ali.

  • i actually think calzaghe would of beat ali.

    idk thats just my opinion

w.e. we both agree joe louis is awesome

    lets end on that note

  • Is that a joke?

The greatest heavyweight of all time losing to calzaghe?

  • ali was not the greatest. joe louis and marciano were the greatest. ali maybe top five

  • You're clearly very uneducated on boxing history. Don't respond to me until you study some more.

  • your and idiot, and your wasting my time. your probably like 10 years old

  • marciano was a great champion but he only beat three note worthy people in 49 fights. izzad charles, joe wolcott and a old fat joe louis. so its hard to claim that he would of beat ali. ali beat guys like forman, frazer, patterson, liston, norton and many more. he was champion at a time when the heavyweight divison was at its height. also calzaghe was a middle weight and would of stood no chance of beating ali. ps,

ali only lost his title twice in the ring. the last time he lost he was 39

  • i just hope u guys realise how authentic johnsons style was it is well ahead of his time nothing dirty hes smilling throughout fights hes an expert watch him put the guys on the ropes with 6 or 8 hit combos lol that hardly happens today or ever to note his fights during his prime shows more evidence of africas fighting skill and dominance in all sport and im a native new zealand maori i havent seen one boxer from his era even close to his ability just another pimp hes from africa killing wiggaz

  • there was a guy that jack johnson was afraid of. he was black too but he was much shorter than the 6,1 johnson. he was stockier. he was built like big badger and johnson avoided fighting him. eventually he got hurt somehow and it became a non-issue, but this other guy was tough.

  • joe louis > jack johnson > muhammad ali > ... > tyson

love the song , someone knows the title?

  • Joe Louis > Jack Johnson > Muhammad Ali>... Tyson?

Only with the aid of D' Amato. Tyson can't think on his own.

I'd like to see Foreman or Shavers against Tyson. Marciano Vs Tyson would look cool too, they were both of the more smaller, stronger guys. I think Marciano's early body had a lot of Tyson characteristics, look at the shoulders and bicep.

I still think Johnson is too smart and very strong, not strong like the guys from the 70s but he's up there.

  • I should point out that Marciano was 20-30 pounds lighter than Tyson. But sometimes Tyson is better at the smaller weights and he might've been more effective, toward his later years, if he'd dropped to the 190-200 pound range.

Tyson tries too hard to be a big man, there are guys like Holyfield who are just naturally more comfortable with those heavier sizes and Tyson needs to stay low at his own element. Thats why he lost to Holyfield big time.

  • I dont see Johnson beating Louis...no way...Louis hit much harder and was a better boxer IMO

  • Or the 32 headbutts from Holyfield made it hard to beat him.

  • Holyfield fights dirty. And he's also on steroids. I don't know whether Tyson uses steroids, but a his physique is probably a lot harder and more naturally earned than Holyfield's.

    Good Call.

  • I dont normally care about the music but this is terrible frickin terrible.

  • Johnson was only 200 pounds...Tyson was 220 of solid muscle and much faster...Lennox was even heavier and knew so much more about boxing.

  • Johnson was 200-215 pounds at various stages of his career. His body looks a lot better than Tyson's.

He has beaten people bigger than Tyson, but Mike probably carries a speed advantage when he really gets going.

I don't know where your evolution kicks in, but Johnson was fighting bare knuckle against an infuriated white community of fighters who couldn't stand to see him wearing the title. Toward the end of his life, there's a crater on the side of his head the size of Kennedy's exit wound.

  • His body is better than Tyson's? Absolutely not...Tyson was a solid brick...i'm a fan of Johnson's but Mike Tyson of 1988 would take Johnson out in less than 5 round...Johnson would have no idea what was in front of him...a bobbing and weaving monster with bricks for hands...there was no conception of head movement in those days...Johnson stood straight up...Tyson would get him out of there quick.

  • I disagree. Foreman and Liston or Shavers would feel more threatening in terms of power. Tyson is powerful, but I think Johnson can match or do better than Tyson's strength. Jefferies too.

You shouldn't underrate the old athletes. Babe Ruth can consistently hit a ball 100 feet further than both Bonds and Macguire, and he does even better when the ball is faster. He'd also have more home runs if the stadiums were as small as they are now and the rules had been changed to current.

  • I'd also like to tell you that an aging Rocky Marciano beat Muhammad Ali in his prime, and his body looks crappier than alot of the guys who were around during Johnson's era (which was a boom in turn of the century fitness). Ali had everything that modern bodybuilders goggle at, and he still lost.

Johnson and Jefferies can both outperform Tyson, and their bodies are not shabby. Jefferies trained like a beast to fight Johnson, he lost a hundred pounds and sculpted it in a flash.

  • The fight between Marciano and Ali was not real my friend, do some research into it.

  • My bad. Sorry.

  • I think if they were in the same time period it would of been a killer fight

  • wow, are you serious? LOL...Marciano never fought Ali...that simply never happened, lol...I think you lose all credibility now...like I said, I respect the old time boxers and I love Johnson...but just watch some early tyson highlights...Johnson STOOD STILL...never moved his head AT ALL...head movement wasn't really incorporated in boxing until Dempsey...Jackson would try to tie a 21 year old tyson up and would get caught with a hook...and down he would go.

  • Comment removed

  • wow you really are not smart...THAT FIGHT WAS NOT REAL...hahahahaha I cant believe you actually think it was...look at either Ali or Marciano's official records....THEY NEVER FOUGHT EACH OTHER!!! that was a fake fight!

  • Ali fought Marciano in that staged piece of crap that I saw on Youtube and mistook for reality. Very sorry.

It was part of a film that was discussing some of the same things we're doing here, and all of this is theoretical.

But Johnson would not lose to Tyson and thats my opinion. Maybe to Foreman, or Liston, but not Tyson.

  • Tyson was a wimp huh? So a 220 pound youngest heavyweight champion in history was a "wimp"...what does that make you then? You are right, tyson faded later in his career...i'm talking about a 20 year old mike tyson VS. Johnson...if you knew anything about boxing you would see that Johnson would be KO'd early.

  • A young Tyson might defeat Johnson, but it would not be easy and it wouldn't be an early KO.

We're talking about fighters (from Johnson's era) who didn't duck. If they're tough enough not to duck, then most of them would probably go the distance with Tyson in the similar fashion of Ali vs Wepner. But he (or they) would not be KO'd easy unless it was Foreman or Shavers.

You're also forgetting that Johnson researched his opponents, he didn't fight anyone the same way and he would not play fool.

  • sethman:

the fact that they dont duck makes them tough, but it doesn't make them better boxers...Tyson had amazing skills in his prime...its just that his prime didn't last...the way he bobbed and weaved and literally went from side to side so fast (much like Dempsey)...made Tyson almost unbeatable...Tyson's prime only lasted a short while because it was made for a young fighter...he couldnt maintain that style with his age...I dont see how Johnson could hurt a young Mike

  • Johnson was the man though...the way he fended fighters off...and his speed was good too you can never see his punches....who do you think would win Joe Louis or Jack Johnson?

  • Joe Louis would definitely lose in my opinion. I watched "A.K.A. Cassius Clay" last night and observed the list of reasons why Ali didn't believe he could be defeated by Louis. I then subtracted those reasons from Johnson, to make my conclusion that Johnson could probably make mince meat out of Louis (and enforce my belief that he'd beat Ali).I actually consider Johnson more of a power man, but he is fast. A Baer vs Johnson match may be interesting. He made Primo look like a sissy giant.

  • By the way, Tyson would probably beat Ali if he were training with the all-wise D'Amato.

Don King screws up the physicality and finance of all of his fighters. He'll make them eat crappy food and play tricks on their mind.I don't understand his mentality at all, but Tyson is one of a long list of figters (including Ali) who's talents have been destroyed by their association.

Johnson is a physical genius all to himself and he would never let a manager effect any aspect of his training.

  • Even the earliest people who were working with Tyson at the height of is prime were afraid of the people who might get into his head. He had a Randy Moss streak during his early years when no one could figure him out, but Jack Johnson would've mappedhim psychologically. He is the Ty Cobb of boxing, he's smarter than Ali and any one who's been manipulated by Don King. If you'd read how Cobb plays Ruth, you'd know how Jack would tinker with Mike. And Johnson STILL has a very good body for any sport.

  • He's faster than Ali, and he hits like Foreman (without tiring.).

I don't think the modern black fighters could beat him either.

  • yea i think they definitely can...you really think Johnson could beat a guy like Ali or Lennox Lewis? Hell no...boxing has evolved since then as so have fighters skills...prime Mike Tyson would knock Johnson out in one round.

  • Johnson is a lot stronger than Ali.

Tyson has emotional problems, and therefore he's never a sure-win against anybody. Especially no one who is as consistent and long lasting (career wise) as Jack Johnson.

I don't know anything about Lennox Lewis, so I can't comment there.

  • very well done- enjoyed this a lot!

  • Jack Johnson - G.O.A.T.

  • look at him grinnin all the way through

  • but look at what he did at his time.....are u serious though i mean blacks were not even treated as human beings at that time....but he crossed the lines and everything...that took balls

  • Great video, Jack was a legend, unlike you papke. Black power

  • SHUT THE FUCK UP

  • Good video, a great tribute to a legend!. BTW, which is the song at the first minute (techno)?.

  • This was a man amongst men. He had what could be considered a very dangerous lust for white women, he had several white preachers screaming for his head because of this but he loved to wind up white and black men with it. A man after my own heart. No better way to get one in at your critics then publicly flaunting your enjoyments in front of them. Violence is all very well and has its uses, but humiliation of ones enemys is far more satisfying. RIP One of the greats.

  • ivansharpe, you fucking nailed it

this is why Johnson is my favorite sports figure of all time, his legacy has earned him certified mythological status among men

  • legend this guy

  • great fighter and the music is fuckin bullshit, techno crap. Jack Johnson would you kill you motherfucker

  • first Black Heavyweight Champion LEGEND

  • yes he was n proud me even im not black

    race dont matter to me

  • its sad...these old fights look more like toughman than boxing...but we have to remember...they didnt have the padding in the gloves like today...not as much i mean...these guys dont wanna get hit....i dont blame em....these guys were tough as hell..i love these old fights

  • I bet those white boys couldn't stand Jack.

  • He was having a ball in there, he couldnt stop smiling

  • this music is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo lame for a jack johnson montage

  • Really, where's "Fight The Power"?

  • Hey, I'm looking for the documentary called A Tribute to Jack Johnson, and Miles Davis plays the music...can anyone help me?

    thanks! :)

  • I loved it when Johnson knocked down Stanley Ketchel and carried him back up so he could fight. When Ketchel hit Johnson flush on the jaw and scored a flash knockdown, Johnson was infuriated and ended up knocking Ketchel out seconds later. Legendary fighter, one of the all-time greats.

  • ketchel's teeth were embedded in johnson's glove

  • A great fighter,so talented.

  • Amazing man.

  • this is a great video, the clips of Johnson smiling to the crowds in the beginning are priceless...a true testament to his showmanship

  • he was beating everybody till he was 48 years old.. half of his losses came when he was 49 and 50

  • Jack Johnson was no angel and never claimed to be one. He did however live his life fearlessly and scandalously in a time when blacks where being hung for very little. His total disregard for public opinion led to his downfall, and ultimately his edgy lifestyle would end his life in a car accident. Truly a fearless man, if not honorable.

  • i thnk he would have been undefeated had he not given in to the pressure of racism, i dont thnk he relle lost, i thnk he purposely took the fall

  • No way, look at the film. Johnson got KTFO. Willard may have been clumsy, but he was very strong (6'6" and 245 pounds) and had already killed one man in the ring. Johnson, by this time old and rusty, got the beating he gave Jeffries, who was old and rusty. Karma? I think so.

  • Sorry Gink. If you prefer the Karma approach, then see Charlie Liston and CC (Ali) number 2 for guidance... Willard couldn't hit a barn door with a frying pan...

  • Jonny, gotta disagree. See the film. Willard hit him, hard. Maybe Johnson could have gotten up, but he chose not (or was unable) to. NO FIX. Willard wasn't a fluid boxer, but any man 6'6" and 245 pounds can hit, and he did.

  • Ok Gink, I accept that the right hand thrown by Willard was a a brilliant knock-down punch and for many fighters, definitely a knock-out punch. What kinda stirs conspiracy feelings in me about this fight is that after 26 rounds with a puncher like Johnson, Willard does not appear to have a mark on his face. I guess the debate will go on forever. Fair play to Willard though, as you acknowldege, it was some punch - and certainly no 'phantom'like the one that did for Liston eh!

  • Karma for what? For shutting all those racists up?

  • Wow! Being black in America must had been like living in a evil Irag in the eary 1900's.

  • Another thing that no one talks about is that Johnson eventually became as hated by the black press as the white. He said he never considered himself any kind of champion of his race, provoking Booker T. Washington to condemn him. He was truly egalitarian, having friends and lovers of both races, and the black press slammed him just as hard for marrying a white woman as the white press did.

  • Agreed. A measured, historically accurate account. If we are to learn anything from history (and hopefully progress as human beings)more fact and less fiction will help us all.

  • They tried to (& were fairly succesfull) erase Johnson from history, till the 1970s when Ali began telling people about him. We learned about Jackie Robinson, but not a word about Johnson. People didnt want their children learning just how predjudice we were, & you cant tell Johnsons story without that becoming clear

  • I agree. One has to respect Johnson for living his life as a man. He was courageous and did it his way!

  • Also, remember that the media coverage of Jack Johnson was exceedingly biased. They made a big deal out of him taunting Tommy Burns, for instance, but despite several ringside accounts no newspaper reported that Burns had spent the entire match cursing Johnson out and throwing racial slurs. Johnson was known to be very often polite and courteous in the face of insults, but every time he did act human and respond in kind they made a big deal out of his "swaggering".

  • I think if we give George Washington and Thomas Jefferson passes for owning slaves and Martin Luther King a pass for plagiarizing, that we can forgive Jack Johnson for gambling and speeding. He never had the protection of the law- they went after him mercilessly- so why should he have respected it? The man was hardly a saint, but no one is. I'm hard pressed to think of a historical figure who's any better morally than Jack Johnson.

  • great video work, like the way you cropped the clips/

  • Johnson was a good boxer but social disgrace.

  • How can you call the man a social disgrace? Surely, it was the racist white supremicist scum that went to any lengths to see him defeated that was a disgrace. As a white guy myself, I think Johnson was a top man.

  • Excuse me but I think your value system needs to be adjusted.

  • My friend there were no Lynchings after Johnson defeated Black boxers. Comenting on 4 minutes of Jack Johnson on film and you limit the term "social disgrace" to Johnson? Don't think its me that needs to check out any value system old boy. Have you ever tried reading as a pastime?

  • Johnson was a social digrace. He broke laws everywhere he went. He gambled, endangered others when he drove excessive speeds in his automobile, caroused, ran around on his wives, taunted and jeered opponents in the ring, etc. In fact, his disregard for the rules and his reckless behavior finally killed him.

  • Johnson's insulting behavior is not justifed because of the terrible lynchings that took place. He was a good boxer, social disgrace and NOT a top man. In fact, he drew the "color line" on meeting other good black fighters for the title, only fighting the mediocre Battling Jim Johnson in Europe when he [Jack] needed money.

  • So, according to your value system, everyone that drives over the speed limit; wagers a bet; falls in love while married and taunts sporting openants is a social disgrace? I guess apart from you, most of us are a social disgrace! You probaly come from the good ol' God fearin South? Cuz it seems to me you aint from around here boy...

  • Yes, and Johnson was a social disgrace, even if he were black.

  • No he wasn't.

  • i agree with you totally, plus when you come from nothing you tend go over the bounderies and go over board once you get every thing. take MC hammer for example

  • reasearching him... and it's interesting how u mixed it with techno/trance

  • I like your video clip and have rated it as awesome. Please view my clip of some 1930's boxing tobacco cards. They include Jack Dempsey , Joe Louis, Jack Johnson and many more.

  • johnson did alot for blacks in sports he was an eye opener

  • with toughness passed through generations from the slave trade, black boxers were better acustomed to the requirements needed for boxing than us white people.

  • and white people, from not being in the slave trade, were less accustomed to boxing..like jack dempsey

  • give me a break 601 200,,,defensive fighter with fast hands,,,eddie machen, jimmy young, chris byrd etc,,all good but johnson with his size wasnt much better,,held a lot, caught punches with his hands,,,like to see him fend off liston in his prime or any other big hard hitting heavies,,although with his style he might have beat cassius clay

  • Hey guys we should create an "what if" machine !

    I want to KNOW !!

  • Jim Jeffries, in his prime, was likely the best heavyweight fighter ever

  • Jim Jefferies stated that he would not have beaten Johnson even in his prime. Johnson was way ahead of his time.

  • Jack Johnson called Jim Jeffries the greatest heavyweight of all-time in the 1940s

  • He was being polite in his old age. Ali ranks Johnson the 2nd best of all tme.

  • Jim Corbert was a true coward. I wish Jack Johnson had few rounds with him, maybe five secounds.

  • he was a true gent always smiling even in clinches its a pity about the era he was in cuz us whites at the time were in my opinion scared of the black race and didnt want to let them in any sport because they were superior to us

  • well, we're really not superior to you, just different.

  • Thank You! Johnson is for sure of the top greats. At his peak he was nearly unbeatable.

  • thankyou

  • thanks alot
