The poor Italians. Its amazing they held on as long as they did facing UK, Commonwealth and USA. Its like the kid who rolls all 6s during an Axis and Allies game. Some of their tactics were sound, some equipment was solid, large numbers, just nothing seemed to ever go right right for them...

Maybe Italians are better lovers than fighters... :)

i understand that but with the inaccuracy of torpedo's and torpedo bombers at the time, coupled with inexperience (this being one of the first of such actions) it was a hell of a shot.

It was cos they were all together in the bay, submarines are especially vulnerable to an explosion near to them. I would imagine both the ships got hit and the concussion sunk the subs.
