@eXperSMvg I don't know what the Nether was like a year ago, but aside from falling into lava, the Nether (as of 1.8.1) is actually very safe. I go there frequently with no armor on my errands to collect glowstone. And if you think about it, a dungeon with a Nether Portal in the way leaves little room to dodge a lunging spider. It is absolutely understandable that he set it to peaceful to avoid dying.
