it's a toroid/doughnut made out of ink. it's a lot like a smoke ring, because it's also a toroid. the natural shape of a solid is a sphere the toroid is the natural shape for gas. i sometimes make these rings when i have some kind of colored liquid based medicine for fish in my fish tanks. :D
