I met Jerry Gerber at a screening of "Gumby Dharma." He told me that writing this new theme song was the most difficult part of working on the 80s series, because the original song had become so connected to Gumby. He agreed with me that this was basically a copy of the original; I think there were legal/money issues with the guy who wrote the 60s theme.

He agrees that the original is better, and that this is just an inferior imitation. It was dictated by necessity, not by choice.

I remember this intro. We used to have one of those channels that was constantly out of range and full of static. You had to manipulate the TV antenne to get a resonable picture. I used to watch this as a kid all the time.

I remember the summer 1986 watching Gumby on channel 5 in the afternoon, but this wasn't his theme song. Here are the lyrics I'm used to: "Gumby! He was once a little green clab of clay. Gumby! But you should see what Gumby can do today. Gumby! He can walk into any book with his pony pal, Pokey too. If you got a heart then Gumby's a part of you."
