  • This brilliant Thames Television Drama is now available on DVD. Callan The Colour years 1970 to 1972 with the fantastic late great Edward Woodward and Russell Hunter.

  • Superb series have just got it on dvd it stands the test of time, Edward Woodward brilliant as usual RIP Mr Callan

  • Farewell to Edward Woodward...a Croydon lad like me.

As a side issue-LONELY (Russell Hunter)...one of the GREAT characters of the day- a real shame the character has been forgotten...

  • @Stereolabdream - I, like many I'm sure, thought he was a COCKNEY - his accent was so good. It was a shock when I finally heard his REAL accent - GLASGOW!

He passed five years ago, aged 79. A great actor.

  • When I was very young, I always prefered the series to the film, but latterly I came to prefer the film. It has more scope for the realities of Callan's job and character. But both are brilliant, and especially thanks to EW - RIP!

  • Damn - I hadn't heard. I'm retired to Thailand. I Wiki-ed him. Sure enough - last month. I only saw him a couple of years ago, in Simon Pegg's "Hot Fuzz" - still, he at 79, he had a good run. Now I'll check out the tribute on ITN by Anthony Valentine.
