  • I cant wait to "neuter" my STI and make it sound like a high performance racecar. They only made them un-even because it was cheaper.

  • I dont think perrin relize how little success they will have with these headers. Dont get me wrong.... for a ricer sound, its the best i've heard in a long time, but as far as subarus signature low growling tone the you can reconized a mile away... it sucks. Im staying stock with ported exhuast manifolds or just get UN-even headers.

  • I am in the minority in that I really dislike the "boxer rumble" If I were to pick up an STi when the time comes this will be part of the first rounds of mods.

  • Honestly, a lot of people buy subaru's because the first thing they remember ever noticing about the car was the way it had sound the first time they ever came across one. I own an STI and I'm loving the rumble tbh. But I am considering going with an EL header for better spool up of my HTA86. Just hate the fact that I would give up that rumble.

  • Sounds friggin nice !!! I would still keep the unequal length headers though but honestly anyone trying to race a WRX or STI that doesn't rumble WATCH OUT !!! It's packing serious power, we're talking full exhaust and bigger turbo here. Most serious modifications go hand in hand with equal length headers.

  • @passdarok11 not necessarily, everything that a subie is, makes it one like the flat 4, symmetrical AWD, but to me equal length headers make it sound like an Evo, and takes away that distinct Subaru boxer growl, just my opinion.

  • @bsh009582 Thats a stupid comment it may have sounded better before, but this reduces the torque meaning you dont have to spend so much money on internals, it uses exhaust gases cleverly to stop the infamous 2 and 4 cylinder failure. Like if you know what im talking about.

    Your exhaust system goes like this; Cylinder exhaust port->Header->Intermediate pipe->Muffler->tailpipe

    Equal length headers orchestrate the exhaust pulses from each cylinder in the engine. After the exhaust port is opened inert gas is pushed out of the cylinder into the header leaving negative pressure behind it. This neg. psi will pull another cylinderʻs exhaust right along with the first one. EQH could increase your engineʻs volumetric efficiency to 110% just like a turbo would.

  • just installed the Tomei EL header and put down some amazing numbers(08 sti). Based on forums and dyno results it could be even better than the Perrin. Just based on weld quality alone its pretty easy to see. I am a big fan of EL regardless because it just plain puts down better numbers. Either way adding a EL headers requires a tune unless you want to run lean and risk blowing an engine.

    The difference in power between un-equal and equal length is about +3 hp more for equal length. Not enough power difference for me to by equal and lose that sound.

  • @mikedsm12 That wouldn't be good. Running a gutting muffler creates back pressure. You have air spinning around in a can instead of getting out of the exhaust system. Having a good straight through muffler is better.

  • I've always preferred the deep burble of the unequal length headers, but this is the first video that has actually almost sold me on the equal length, it sounds so clean and powerful, but still like a Subaru. I love both options now.

  • The header from the factory is what gives it the lumpy rumble. An equal length header will change the sound to more of an Evo sound.
