I see a sheen on the pastry sheet... did you give it a quick buttering before the topping? second question: I love custard & ice cream, but it can cause chaos with my tummy and have lactose intolerant friends... would an option for a substitute peach glaze-ish kind of thing work? or would that change it up too much? maybe caramel...hmm too sweet, not summer-ish enough? its late, sorry... suggestions? I was thinking of making this for an upcoming house warming.
Hi Katz! hope your well :) The sheen is just the moisture from it thawing out of the freezer. I didnt butter mainly because i dont want any extra moisture as the apples do that :) You could try peaches, just make sure they are firm enough to cut thinly. Also if you want a extra caramel effect just add some more brown sugar on the top, will dissolve right down on that bad boy! Hope this help :)
