  • I don't think you'd see the flashes in real life; you don't see the flashes when watching a movie.

It's just the cameras frame rate is higher than the rate that the lights are flashing, so it's out of sync.

  • Aiiii my epilepsy!

  • If you are ever in Tokyo visit the Studio Ghibli museum they have one of these with Totoro characters. Just as mindblowing seeing one in person. They don't allow filming so you are unlikely to see it on YouTube.

  • 0:50 "WOW, How do they do that?"

  • It's at the Oakland Museum of California right now in the Pixar exhibit...which just so happens to be a 15 minute drive from Pixar Animation Studios. It's so eerie, yet awesome.

  • おもしろおおおおおおおい

  • I'm astounded. Interesting to think that the technology to do this was theoretically available hundreds of years ago. Too bad da Vinci never thought of making something along these lines.

  • finally someone posted a good video of this. thanks!!!

  • haha it came ALL the way from America to Singapore at the science centre! lol

  • Six people missed the thumbs up button. Obviously they have don't have any appreciation for the history of animation whatsoever.

    that collection is amazing!

  • I've seen the same thing in Hong Kong XD

  • wow!

  • what is zoetrope

  • Comment removed

  • Basically, it's like a flip book put instead of pictures it uses sculptures on a spinning wheel

  • normally it's just pictures, this on is unique because it's sculptures

  • @JonnyBoy1000000 dont forget the strobe lights!

  • a zoetrope is images, 3 or 2 dimensional, that spins and creates the illusion of a moving image or animation. 3D zoetropes like this one need strobing LED lights (flickering lights) to create the illusion.

    super cool.

  • Always great to see when your over at Disneyland

  • omg!!

  • Zoetropes are just getting better and better!

And to think this was an object that played an important role in movie history.

  • WHAT THE FUCK?!?!?!?!?!?!

i have a pass and ive never seen this, where is this at?

  • Its in california adventure, at the place where they have the Animation Academy and Turtle Talk With Crush.

  • HOLY SDHKLGSDLGK. That's amazing!

  • I want to see it this!

  • Saw it the other week Frikking amazing.

  • Saw this in london a couple of years back, coolest thing i think i have ever seen

  • i remember seeing this in person! it blew my mind!

  • I just discovered this in person today and it's great. I like the music/sound that goes with it as well. My camera runs at a different speed so my vid looks slightly different (it's clearer overall, but the blackouts last longer, to summarize.) I'll upload it later as a response. After viewing it for a while I realized how perfect Toy Story was as a subject for the zoetrope, what with the "toys coming to life" theme. It fits perfectly.

  • Oh, yeah - it is WAY better in person! Fabulous!

  • saw it yesterday, it's really cool

  • that is SUPER cool! i wanna go now!

  • Crappy youtube vids don't do this thing justice. You NEED to see this for yourself! :D *lol*

  • lol but this is in CA and i am in MD so i go to disney world FL :(

  • Huh. Well, I guess you'd better start SAVING then. *lol*
