This was odd, no question, but I think Branagh had to make it very odd to be effective for the modern "world-weary" viewer. He needed to make it as exotic and fluffy and strange as possible so we the audience could experience some of what it was like to be transposed to a Forest of Arden. Also, I loved Branagh's moving camera throughout this film.
@Augiegrl12 Haha there's a lot worse. Try putting this play in a modern setting, like in an apartment instead of an orchard, and some lot behind a construction site instead of a forest, while changing none of the original verse. Bleugh! I think this one is weird, but easily digestible.
O stop it Monsieur Branagh! Back in 1989 when he made his most excellent version of Henry V it was likely that he would even match the excellent BBC Shakespeare productions; having decent actors, fitting costumes, good music and fine scenery. But then all good lost: He turned away from his path staring to make 19th century costume based movies with incapable American actors; it was fine as long as he did play the important role himself and used actors like Brian Blessed or Derek Jacobi...
But now all is a mess; why by all the gods Romans bow before did he not made a version of King Henry IV Part I & II with the same set of actors, he used for King Henry V? A sad waste and loss of talent so his Henry V will always remind me of what he could have done, while the rest of his movies shows me what he did instead!
does any one know how I can get hold of the last song . i have no clue what the original title was ...

That was his worst Shakespeare film interpretation out of all the others I've seen him in.
Creative, clever, but it just did not work in Japan.

A good play, a questionable interpretation, a fine act.
