This was the fatal mistake of the Trojans.

If they don't go on the offensive then Hector doesn't kill Patroclus and perhaps Achilles doesn't slay Hector in revenge. Losing Hector crippled Troy and it was only a matter of time.

@tankdogg937 well as the anchor of the trojan army you have to see that his was forced to attack by his father and the stupid soothsayers, or those who see signs...in the film that was also the fatal mistake when discovering the horse..priam went for the Gods rather than Paris's insistance to burn it...

Yes, yes! King Priam decided the attack according to the predictions of his master servant of Apollo, who said that the Gods would lead them to victory. Maybe they won this one battle but in the end this was the beginning of the destruction of Troy, starting with the death of Hector who was stabbed by Achilles shortly afterwards. Pity.

@ToughGermanWoman but the defeat of Troy was the flight of Aeneas....who founded Rome, the greatest city in the history of the world. This Rome completely subjugated the Greeks - thus Troy won out in the end.
