Thank you for Posting this Great old ,song, brings Back the good old memories of my Disco days, Those were Fantastic years!! Its A great Classic song.
We forget how talented Diana Ross really was/is..One of the greatest disco/dance songs of all time..I was 12 years ,when this came out,but knew what a special song, this really was..
When first heard this one we were stepping into the Air Force NCO club. Everyone was sitting down with drinks when the disco tempo came on. The DJ knew the exact moment to turn up the volume. There was an almost mad rush to the dance floor. Great post.
she has everything, she is the real pop queen of all time, shes unique in every way, shes had lots of imitators but none of them had it all like miss ross.
This song is too seductive. Forget love hangover, this is more like a love overdose. I just love Diana. And I so miss the days of disco even though I was too young to participate at the time.
have always loved this song remember it well she just cannot be beaten the wonderful and super talented miss ross was bought up on tamla as my eldest sister had all the tamla records and my brother loved everything on the stax label how lucky was i still love them today this was and still is one of dianas best
@hoss13um It's classic disco, by Diana Ross, the Motown Soul Diva! Some soul purest's would call it hypocrisy! But then, I danced to it, too, And I survived disco! I think George Clinton summed it up when he said something like, "If you take the best riff from funk and play it over and over it becomes annoying!" Nuff said.
@jamblisstic You're kidding. The '70s was the best decade of black culture. I like some '60s Motown, but disco, soul, funk, and reggae were genres that totally revolutionized music instrumentally. Had it not all gone toward hip hop, rap, and the so-called modern "R&B", it would've been great. But this is so much more smoother than her earlier work.
@Transformers2themax Saying that disco revolutionized music instrumentally is like saying that Autotune revolutionized music vocally. You got some crossed wires, dude. Just as movies like "Shaft In Africa" and "Putney Swope" exemplified the cinematic exploitation of Black culture, Disco was a cultural abomination born from cocaine induced histrionics. It did, however, influence the birth of House and Trance, for what good that's worth.
@jamblisstic No duh, some blaxploitation was racist, but then wasn't it predominantly PRODUCED BY BLACKS??? Yeah, disco was nothing but cocaine, just like how Jim Morrison was nothing but alcohol and Jimi Hendrix was nothing but cannabis. You're such a brainwashed fool. Cocaine is bad for your heart, yes, but it helped a lot of great music come to be. Music was better with drugs. I'm sorry, it's a fact. You're just an ignorant, conservative, brainwashed fool.
@Transformers2themax As I expected, you thoroughly miss the point. Unless you have experienced grooving at a blue light basement party, and wilding out at the downtown disco, you have no idea! I can imagine Hendrix and Morrison crossing over to play inane disco riffs for a few bucks or billboard position. How dare you mention them in this post. Grow up youngun'...ain't no conservatives live here!
@jamblisstic Thoroughly missed the point? More like I thoroughly caught your mentality and you refuse to accept it. You're one of those types who knows when someone has their hands clutched around your throat; yet, you still try to breathe. First, you hate on the music of the '70s and then you claim you were involved in it as if it was a good thing? It's good music and regardless if it was from the influence of "drugs" or not, it's still good music. Most good music is spawned from drug usage.
@jamblisstic And actually, I brought in Jimi and Morrison because they had to do drugs and you mentioned that disco was "incessant hi-hat" music that had to do with cocaine. It's just a fact. See, now I'm getting the impression that you're one of those types who grew up in the '60s and then hated on the '70s. The '60s were great and practically revolutionized white American culture. Then again, the same happened with the '70s; except, it was of the black culture. Drugs were used in both eras.
@jamblisstic If you think that Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison are irrelevant to the topic at hand because of the drug usage of the '70s, you really need to do your research. Jim Morrison was schizophrenic, but he also was partially alcoholic and did a lot of heroine--which resulted in his death. The same goes for Jimi, who did die from the faulted combo of alcohol and prescription medication; however, he still was involved in drugs. Not that I care--I'm just making a point.
@jamblisstic And maybe I know the P-Funk. Maybe I saw them for the first time on my 15th birthday and experienced funk how it is. Maybe I do know something about '70s black culture music. Maybe I know it better than you. First, you hate on it; then, you act as if you know something about it because you supposedly "have experienced grooving at a blue light basement party, and wilding out at the downtown disco". What a hypocrite. Stop trying to judge music; you're obviously not very good at it.
@Transformers2themax I will accept the fact that you are off on another tangent and will not likely reappear in the realm of reason in the forseable future. I survived disco...you don't even know what it is.
@jamblisstic Realm of reason? I'm an artist and plan to be a filmmaker for the Weinstein Company. Think again. Again, you know when someone has their hands clutched around your throat; yet, you still try to breathe. My level of logic is just frightening to you. You survived disco? Are you kidding me? What--was it the Holocaust or the Great Purge of the '70s? Lol.
@jamblisstic I know what disco is, it's a genre of music and dance. You just see it as a Purgatory of some sort. You're probably one of those illogical born-again Christian types who hates on music you don't even know about so there's no point in trying to speak to you like a human being any more 'cause you're obviously no longer of that level of intelligence. You're a brainwashed, ignorant sheep and you haven't a clue what you're talking about.
I was about seven when I asked for this LP...I think my parents thought I wanted the "Theme from Mahagony" off it...But they heard heard this playing over and over and me singing every lyric.....I'll never forget the sound of footsteps thundering up the strairs...
the intro is smooth for sure, but from 2:48 on it's pure delightness, energy and a classic dance groove for ever and ever and a day...... cheers from Switzerland
That bass line riff....it is so funky...is the same one Monica used in her jam...Not the First night....(think M C Lyte used thing in one her earlier jams too.) @musicminor25 This was released around the time I was in my first ever Band Camp in high school. The change to up-tempo reminds me of those field drill shows every time--
This is one of Diana's best, someone said she was lost in the music. Thats what she lost along the way..being lost in the music..maybe if she did that again even in concert, people would begin to line up for her again (like they do Barbara Streisand, Cher & Tina Turner). Diana played herself out by becoming a caricature of herself. Even if Cher & Tina did it to a smaller extent, they at least gave the audience (by all appearances) all that they had. Diana became more about the costume change.
In the 60s & 70's, we had soul music!! Today we have "souless" music! Be"yawn"ce, Christina, J-Ho, Jennifer Hudson. Pariah Scary will never have the talent or longevity!!
just...good music

This is one of Diana's best, someone said she was lost in the music. Thats what she lost along the way..being lost in the music..maybe if she did that again even in concert, people would begin to line up for her again (like they do Barbara Streisand, Cher & Tina Turner). Diana played herself out by becoming a caricature of herself. Even if Cher & Tina did it to a smaller extent, they at least gave the audience (by all appearances) all that they had. Diana became more about the costume change.

I saw her about this time and she was an amazing performer who made eye contact with everyone, including myself. Thanks Diana!

@LittleMsChachi I saw her in Charlotte, N.C. about this time as well. The show was amazing and Diana had the sell-out crowd in the palm of her hand.

Give me the first 2:44 of this song and you can keep the rest. That bassline is as smooth as silk.

In the 60s & 70's, we had soul music!! Today we have "souless" music! Be"yawn"ce, Christina, J-Ho, Jennifer Hudson. Pariah Scary will never have the talent or longevity!!
