I've had a fair amount of first hand experience with primates at a primate sanctuary in my state. Even small vervet monkeys are exceptionally clever, vicious, and strong.

Go look through the Yellow Pages for the number to animal control while her friend was being mauled? If a dog was attacking a person, it would be shot, whether or not it "understood" that it was killing someone. And the 911 operator just would not listen to her.

I've had a fair amount of first hand experience with primates at a primate sanctuary in my state. Even small vervet monkeys are exceptionally clever, vicious, and strong.
I've met no gorillas but I hear that gorillas are 'docile'....until they decide to go batshit insane for no reason.
The woman's fear that the chimp could get in her car was well founded. A cougar or bear would have trouble--car glass is shatter resistant. A chimp might solve this with a cinderblock.

He wouldn't have even needed a cinderblock. Adult male chimps can smash through car glass with their bare fists - trust me, it's happened before.
I'd say anyone who knows anything about chimps - like yourself - would not be in the least bit surprised by all this - in truth they're incredibly violent and powerful animals.

Point well taken. But, in my defense, It's incredibly difficult to break through a glass window barehanded without wounding yourself pretty terribly. That's where a tool comes in handy.
A chimp could easily smash through the weaker side windows of a car. However, I doubt a chimp could make a large enough hole in a car's windshield to enter the vehicle.
A chimp could certainly smash huge dents in a windshield, but it's unlikely a chimp would be able to penetrate layered glass barehanded.

There was a case in Gabon I think were a chimp attacked a car, smashed the backseat window and actually half-dragged a guy out of the car. Pretty scary stuff. They're truly terrifying creatures - should NEVER be kept as pets under any circumstances.

I heard from atleast one source that he was on anti-depressants (SSRI's). This is just another example of how those medications have been known to cause psychotic breaks. (Suicides, Columbine etc.) I stay cynical when I hear these things but I have to say I am now leaning strongly toward the drugs being a catalyst in these situations.
By the way who would feel for the chimp more then a human being? What a weirdo down below.

Chimps make bad pets! Why keep a chimp. This is one reason why. But there are many others. Chimps belong out in the wild and how chimps get into human captivity is something known as the bush meat trade. I bet there was a good chance when Travis the chimp was little he was watching his whole family get murdered right in front of him. But the baby chimp has no meat value of what so ever and they are taken to markets to be sold as pets. If that woman were smart she would take him to a sanctuary

They couldn't have hit it with a tranquilizer!?!? They didn't have to kill it, really they didn't. I know it was massacring someone, but it's partly the owner's fault for not taking the time to acquire adequet knowledge of the animal she is housing. Chimps are very violent and powerful, and giving it some kind of drug and not keeping it secured in a cage of something is just foolish.

It's her fault she wasn't equipped. The drug she gave him has known side-affects in people, she was stupid enough to not lock him up. I'm sure they would have called animal control, which does carry tranquilizers, if she asked. Lastly, why would she even think to call her friend over when she should know the chimp would tear her apart.
