Garry's view represents a minority unfortunately, even if it is logical and well thought of. I think the host just was not prepared to tackle a serious issue and trying to elicit some humorous responses from Garry, especially because of the long history between the US and Russia.

Gary is not the saint he appears to be, he played the general ignorance and the desire of people to over-simplify complex political situations. The fact that US journalists are completely biased helps a lot too off course.
