I don't care what people say...Shemp makes me laugh more than any other Stooge in the entire history of the group. Not to diminish any of the others, because they were *all* comedic geniuses, but Shemp is definitely on the same level as Curly in my eyes, and I think his contributions to the shorts he appeared in were undeniable.

I never understood why Shemp gets hate. Sure he gets stuck in Curly's shadow, but he never tried to replace Curly. Shemp was just different. This was techincally the Stooges in there original form, expect for Ted Healy. The others tried to replace Curly but Shemp didn't. He brought something different and he was GREAT. Curly is better, but Shemp deserves alot more respect than he gets. To me, there are four Stooges and Shemp is one of them.

Shemp was the original third stooge during their Vaudville days ..he left the act to be in movies.. his brother Jerome (Curly) then took his place..after Curly had a stroke in 1946..Shemp returned temporarily until Curly could get his health back...but Curly health worsened and he died in 1952.. so Shemp remained until he himself died in 1955 of a heart atttack.
