Large corporate interests? I wonder which political
party is entirely backed by insurance/ big pharma?
How about the ENTIRE republican party + 4 conservative Blue Dogs democrats. Lieberman? Ben Nelson? Which party gave Big Pharma the biggest taxpayer handout of the 21st century & got away with it? The republican medicare bill. All this crap about Govn't issued insurance cards & our liberties & socialism is conservative PR straight from Dick
On my website there are links and information to and on most all of the history of modern medicine; in error. When I realized all that, it really put the proverbial frosting on the cake of understanding of why it is all the way it is today. My website link is available in my video.
You two are both arguing a macroscopic view of what a nation should do to treat the sick within their boarders. This Is mostly economics and partially epidemiologic. What Dr. Mercola is saying is that doing nothing is irresponsible to the sick and passing this bill is irresponsible to everbody who will take oxygen into their lungs from now on. You have the for-profit insurrance companies on one side and big Pharma on the other.
Single payer health care is CHEAPER than for-profit health care and covers the 50 million and growing uninsured Americans. Unless you have a vested interest in the health insurance or pharmaceutical industry or are stupid enough to believe Rush Limbaugh or the other highly paid propagandists why would you not want 6/6 of us to be covered for LESS than what we now pay to cover 5/6 of us?
I like government intervention in my highway system and I demand it in my health care system. The truly obscene cost problems come with for-profit corporate greed. Government intervention enables doctors, nurses and administrators at the VA hospital to give SUPERB care! United Health Group Corp paid their CEO William McGuire $54,129,501 to decline treatment! Yes, it's counter-intuitive that you can get more for less, but turn off the Rush Limbaugh disinformation and research the facts.
that's great - I support your right to contract with who you want, so if you want an entity to perform other transactions with your health care provider, go ahead.
But don't start trying to lock in jail other people who don't want to pay for the things you want.
You must respect their wishes of who THEY want to contract wish, just as they respect yours.
Sorry, but Rush is the biggest blow hard in favor of for-profit health care so I assumed. That sounds great on paper that you don't want to be forced to pay for your neighbors children to go to public school (government intervention). But when your neighbors kids are on the street and can't find a honest work because they can't read or write we all suffer when they start breaking into our houses and cars. The same is true with health care.
free markets lower costs and increase quality, thats why our socialist/fascist/interventionist health care system doesn't work well.
on the other hand, contact lenses, cosmetic surgery go down in price and up in quality every year because government doesn't interfere in those areas.
I financially supported RP in his last bid for the GOP nomination. I like everything about him EXCEPT his position on HEALTH CARE. I believe Ron to be a compassionate man unlike most Republicans.
I'm curious if there is a country that models your ideal for what a health care system should look like. All industrialized countries have some form of socialized medicine. You have to move to the 2nd and 3rd world to find health care that allows poor people the LIBERTY to fall through the cracks.
re: comparison between countries, we've already covered this - it's irrelevant, no one is defending the current system which is a mix of socialism (medicare, medicaid, state programs) with fascism (licensing, IP, mandates, regulations, price controls).
Sadly, it's so true. The only time that letters and phone calls work is when everyone just bombards offices with phone calls and letters. But then there's certain congressmen who ignore it no matter what because of that "campaign support" they're getting from other sources. It's too bad 100% of ppl don't participate. But, that's the 5 90 5 rule there for ya. :)
The C.'s been been superceded MANY times, incl. the 1913 Fed formation + no ratification of 16th amendment (Fed. tax) + massive privacy invasions under Homeland Sec. Act + undeclared wars + standing military now placed on our shores, etc.
Bush referred to the C. as a "G/D piece of paper" while plundering it. The same controllers run all Presidents.
It can't be otherwise--UNTIL we reclaim our nation & its charter. That's what Mercola is urging us to do.
Then it's time we took our country back from the grasp of our tyrannical government. If they wanna play by their ruleds, we have our own. We can abolish and overthrow them, to create a new government that will not infringe our rights.
Thanks for speaking out, Dr. Mercola. The grab for government power in the last year has exceeded just about anything this nation has seen. This "health care" bill is just the latest and most egregious example. Even a real "single payer" system would be superior to this corporate-government monopoly that they're trying to foist on us. (A real free market would obviously be best!)
It's no surprise to me that our big government is trying to seize more power and control over the economy. Since the dawn of our governments conception it has grown and constricted our freedoms more and more as time progressed.
I called it socialism because what I see we're moving towards is redistribution wealth by forcing the a few people to shoulder the burden of the health expenses of the vast majority.
But you're right, fascism fits better, as everybody would be required by the government to purchase private insurance to simply be alive. It's a prime example of corporation and government working together to take from us.
Dr Mercola you are a very brave man in the face of all this evil corruption.
I know there are many medical researchers and practitioners who are opposed to what is going on.
Surely, you need to unite together and speak with one powerful voice...this will be strong enough to force the attention of the mainstream media and thus raise awareness among the masses
The class system was transplanted to the colonies. Wealth and power was maybe even more lopsided during the origins of the country, and there are all kinds of mechanisms in the Constitution to maintain the concentration of wealth and power. When the economy became too big and complex for the elite families to run they created corporations so others could run industry for them while still maintaining their ownership and limit their liability. Read "You Call This a Democracy?" by Paul Kivel.
I have TONS of respect for this man, whether it be for his health advice or his passion to help people, and this video is great testimony to it! A straight forward pure doctor's view on this political issue! Thanks!
the same thing that people did without medical insurance before the government got involved. Get treated for free or for less money. There is lots of good information on how the market (not corporatism), the market could take care of medical problems. Go find it.
I have tried.. I am told I make to much money even though I am out on disability and so is my husband.. nice huh? Just this month I spent well over 500 dollars on doctors visits and medication.
That truly is very sad, though I'm sure you meant 5,000 not 500. 500 is actually not that much money. Who told you that you make too much money? Can I assume that it was a government program and its respective bureaucrats who told you that you make too much money. Somehow medical care will be better once they are in control of 90-100% of it, when it is currently very bad and they control 40-55% of it? It'll be more expensive if gov. gets its way with healthreform bill.

dude, it's not about single payer vs. current system.
it's possible to remove the government intervention which is at the root of cost problem.
Back in the 40s and 50s, government intervention was much more limited and thus there wasn't a cost problem.

These are the economics you should learn:
Canada pays 10% of GDP to cover 100% of her population.
USA pays 15.3% of GDP to cover 83% of her population.
Enough with the bullshit libertarian retoric. Unless everyone is free, no one is free. Learn compassion.

Do you really think that a "letter" to my Congressman is going to override the M$ in his back pocket?
The time for playing nice nice is over.
It is time to put an end to the corruption.
See what the founding fathers said would be necessairy in these times.
