Put the Choke BEFORE STARTING and not when the engine is "alive" because the choke is for start when the engine is cold. For finish, don't play with the choke, you can put the choke at one position and stay the choke in this position 2-3 minutes because the engine need. When you "play" with the choke, it's another problem, the engine will die because he will be flooded !
My 2cv do the same problem I don't put the choke...

Pull the choke all the way out, and put your foot to the floor.
THEN crank it.
Should work.
It works for me ??
When it starts, it should clear it's throat, and rev up nicely, then let it drop down.
Keep touching the throttle to keep the engine "Alive"

Yeah - FULL choke on cold start up then push halfway and let it warm up a bit. Leave choke half wayish and push right in after a mile or so.
