i did this a long time ago but i remember i could only get there by using the tingle tuner, and that i could get to a bunch of other Islands without the boat.

I'VE MADE IT TO THE ISLAND!!!! All you've got to do, is use to tingle turner, make sure you get the specal float thing (you can float for 20 seconds) and then do what you did here. I BARLEY made it, I had like..a inch of air left O_O

cool get to the heighest point, use the magic leaf on a full bar then use the tigle ballon to the max then swim u might just make it to the island

I don't know about the Tingle Tuner, but if you had rolled off of the furthest point of that cliff, and let Link get some distance on his own before whipping out the leaf, you coulda gone a bit further.
