  • Hahaha ya, it is in the 4th season. I can't remeber what it is called because I stopped wacthing for a very long time, but it still is my favorite past time show. I think it is disc 1 season 4.

  • haha no problem, I barley could remeber it. And your right it is hilarious. Have you seen the halloween episode?

  • I'm pretty sure the name of that episode is the return of happy spangler, or just happy splanger.

  • Quite a few DVD episodes are extremely dated now... but man, this is timeless...

  • slapstick is the best comedy ever! i do it all the time when at family reunions or visting m god parents. they die of laughter, cuase i hurt my self so much on purpose, i end up hurting my self by accident! dick van dyke ur the best slapstick comedian ever!! ^^

  • did he die or is he alive and what year was this?

  • he's still alive, don't know what year this was but it was on the tv show he had i'm guessing.

  • did he get hurt doing that?

and how did he do the knife trick?

  • the blade came in the hand part of the knife and so he didn't get hurt but he would still not get hurt because it was a fake knife

  • o ok thank u

  • In some ways, this is as disturbing as it is funny. Kudos to him for that.

  • Seriously, hes talking about not laughing at people getting hurt, yet hes getting hurt, and everyones laughing at him! Lol. This is funny!!!!! :D

  • omg i couldnt find this clip for like ever and now i found it yay!

  • This somewhat reminds me of John Ritter on Three's Company because of the way they both use physical comedy...

  • Dick Van Dyke is a legend-great clip! Thanks for posting!

  • Dick Van Dyke - the greatest!

  • WOW! I bet most of today's actors are too afraid of hearing their plastic asses to do even half of that!

  • Hahaha one of my favorite shows ever i didn't grow up with it, but my mom showed it to me and i love it i have the whole box set.

  • Mary Tylor Moore had a nickname for Dick Van Dyke

  • I first saw him on Mary Poppins. I fell in love with him then. He was my favorite character in the movie as a kid.

  • omalleysanatomy, He was ill-used in that film- they shouldn't have expected him to carry off a Cockney accent when it was obvious he just couldn't do it. I felt sorry for him.

  • coralarch: YEAH! HOW COME MARY POPPINS DIDN'T GET TONS OF OSCARS! STUPID ACTORS! STUPID DIRECTORS! WAAAAA! I'M CORALARCH!

  • He's pretty hot NOW!!!!

  • This is a lost art! Dick Van Dyke, like Carol Burnett, is lost comedic art. Cheers -- This is wonderful!

  • good stuff here XD

  • What irony throughout the whole skit! First he says slapstick is not funny and he gets himself stabbed, stuck, choked, yanked, sliced, etc....And it's funny!

  • demonwolfie: I don't think anyone else caught that.

  • haha

  • Could you please, PLEASE post the rest of this show? There is an earlier scene where Dick Van Dyke imitates his boss when he is handed new comedy material. He has a mask on, and he does it without saying a word and its even FUNNIER (if you can believe tHat) than this one! Also the one where he buys Laura a "chandelier" for a necklace. If you do have these, I beg you plz post em!

  • From the last episode of the first season, "The Return Of Happy Spangler" [April, 1962]. Carl Reiner, who wrote this script, usually wrote these kinds of monologues for Sid Caesar to perform on "YOUR SHOW OF SHOWS" and "CAESAR'S HOUR". Wonder how Sid would have delivered it?
