  • DUDE i got news for you. what you're doing (for the most part) is is playing from a harmonic NOT a melodic perspective. having chords suggest a tune is NOT a melody - except in the parts where you played, "give yourself a way," etc which is obviously the song's melody. to get it straight: the melody 'line' in hey jude or beethoven's fifth - anything stands INDEPENDENT of chords. it's a MUCH more rarified gift!!!

having said that, some good improvisation.

  • I agree totally with the idea of this lessson. When I see guitarist twiddling around all over the place Id like to ask them if they play a nursery rhyme off the bat. Most cant and darent try. This way Mike is suggesting keeps you on the music. Which is what its all about.

  • Mike, this is really beautiful and inspring to me.... can you tell me where you got the backing track?

  • I've practised the same way for ever...best way to get timing, pitch, improvisation, tone, etc. Good uploads.

  • Tyler Guitars are somewhat rare, and very expensive for that matter.Only because of the playability/Intonation/Tone, and feel. Not even Tom Anderson, or Paul Reed Smith have the same vibe going for them.

  • great stuff

  • so beautiful... this is still a very high level for me..... but ill be back, hopefully....

  • Try a real simple tune like a beatles song, maybe 8 days a week, you'll probably surprise yourself:-)

  • @guitimad very high level?! this is how i learned to play guitar ! learn pentatonic scales and then play along to your favorite songs after you find out what key they are in... you will dramatically improve

  • Bravo Mike!

I really love your lessons: simple, useful and inspiring!

    5stars :)))

  • Cool - even if it is YouTwo!

  • sounds like you are heavily influenced by duane allman, sounds great

  • You'd be right i love Duane, thanks.

  • what is your gear?

  • Vox VT15 practice amp. James Tyler Burnin Water.

  • The lead was in the key and mode of....??
