i always taught my girls to always show the flag to the audience..dont let them loose sight of it. especially if its a song during marching band! it helps a lot. plus!! you need to put some movement into it!! =)
what do you call on your back spin???im a color guard here in the philippines, stil not get it...help please....is there anyone who had a video slomo of back spin...i really want to learn it...tnx...
Just my advice. Keep your flag at your spin spot(bellybutton). I see you doing drop spin or double fast on your chest area. And add a toss. Maybe a 45 :p
Hi, this is my second year being a captain for my school's guard and this upcoming year, I will be trying out again. The only advice I can see giving is that if you intend to teach this routine to upcoming rookies it MAY be a little confusing, simply because there are a lot of the same moves and different spins repeated. This can SOMETIMES cause them to get confused on the counts and do the wrong work at the wrong times. Other than that, I REALLY like this work a whole lot! Great job!! (:
That is a really cool flag, and I have never seen some of those spins before, so that is really good... but I know for competitions the judges take off for repeativity, and stuff so maybe try to not repeat stuff so much? But it was pretty and good(:
Wow that's a short flag. But i love the silk! and that routine is awesome. must look really cool when everyone is in a straight line. the one thing I would say is...why are there no tosses? and you do repeat a lot of the same flourishes. (like the ones you do on the right side and the backscratchers)
I noticed some stuff too. I am a sophmore flag and it's tough for me because when I tried out (I was a freshman) I was the first freshman to get perfect scores and know every move in as little as 2 weeks period. So yeahh all I gotta say is watch your hand cordination on your dropspin. Good luck.! Message me sometimes :) I love to help.!
@kirbyfanz95 learn it move by move. perfect each individual move. then once you can do that, putting them together in a routine is the easy part :D if you are ever trying to learn, PLEASE feel free to ask me questions. i love helping :) i check my youtube all the time all year. XOXO
@kirbyfanz95 I was a total klutz too, and I managed to do well in guard.. people that know me wonder how it was possible, but trust me, you can do it :D
I forgot to write in the info. bar that this was just a video I made for my team to watch over summer vacation of 2009 so that they know the routine by school. I'm not (obviously) performing. That's why I didn't smile and stuff. This video was JUST about learning the moves. Thanks though!
i think this was good except you were always staring at your hands, and the work was repetitive, you looked a bit awkward just standing in one specific spot
im a part of what county's color guard and im a sophmore but it'd be nice to see some tosses and less repetion-yes the song repeats but maybe try a riple some wher ...you have some unique moves which i believe is brownie points lol
Oh, and after watching it again the hand on your hip all the time doesn't look right. Just have it down at your side or add some arm movement that flows with the music.
In addition to waht else I said: Are you ending at right shoulder? if you are make sure your hand is at the butt of the pole. Other than that make sure you smile and put some life into the performance...move around be "proud" that you are on guard, have fun with it! Good Luck with your season!!
I have no idea what the names or positions are or anything. We don't have a coach or guard or anything. And this is our parade routine, not for "performances." But like I said, I'm not sure how to answer some of your questions because I don;t know the terms. Thanks for the advice though!
I have done routines to this same song before. It all looks good. Make sure you watch your free hand. When you are not doing anything with it make it look pretty...my guard calls it "Barbie hand". Watch your angles and if things are parallel make sure you all look the same on that kind of stuff. Maybe after your first performance have someone record it so you all can watch it over and see what you need to improve on.
Oh, and I'm going to be posting the videos that I took at band camp today. Everyone is kinda (really) bad right now because some of the girls didn't seem to practice, but you can see the shell of the rouine with us all.
that was super repetitive

I laughed at the beginning because now I know my guard isn't the only one that uses Tom Walace's recording.

I saw that you were spinning your flag at your chest. Try to spin at your belly button. It was also a bit repetitive

I just need to say NO SAILS (where the flag gets caught up into the pole) it just annoys me to death when people do. Other wise it was good. :)

You need to do dropspins correctly, the look awkward how your trying to do them. There were definitely good parts to the routine though.
