@rtermnc2 Plug it into your speaker cab. Select a channel turn the volume and gain up. Turn the master volume up. Make sure that the tuner mute is not on.
@animeaddict24711 Yes! It could fill a concert hall easily, and you get a lot better tone out of your head running it at a higher volume. In a world of PA systems tho it doesn't matter how load it gets because you can always mic the cab or use the line out that this head has. Its not as loud as a 100 watt tube amp with KT88s, but it still gets the job done, best clean sound I've heard.
When i use my active humbuckers (emg 81/85) on the clean channel i always get this ugly crackling sound. is this normal ?? i bought it just a week ago second hand so...
@itsGoboboy LOL i found the problem... just replaced battery in guitar :) and BANG!! great cleans :) (little bit ashamed i didn't think of that before)
@jrpg0630 I've only seen him in an ad for this amp. I've never actually seen him use it. Right now I think he uses a Marshall plexi, the 50 watt reissue.
@ABOlsen69666 Just messin' with ya. I just have a thing for Jackson and Dean, but that's me. Also, around where I am and play, it seems that the most boring and uninteresting players have chosen to play strats, so I guess that have sort of skewed my view on them over time.
But seriously, your humbucker strat sounds cool for sure.
Yeah, I know -to an extent- what gear they use, but they're mainly Sunn Amps, Bass amps, etc. I was just wondering if this was any good; cause I like the Marshall sound, but I can't afford a tube amp, so this was what I was really hoping for. So, thanks! Really appreciate it.
Get any tube amp you can then experiment with pedals. It'll be way better than solidstate garbage, believe me. Tube amps are better because when you turn them up they get even better, not so with SS. If you want to bring the thunder go with tubes, a BBE sonic stomp, EQ pedal and noise suppressor in the FX loop and a wicked gain pedal in front. It'll make all the difference. I suggest you even try tube bass amps.
Hey, if you have heard any music from the band " Sunn O))) " [spelled just like that] , would this amp be able to play that kind of guitar naturally [no fx]? If you haven't heard of them, check the song "Aghartha". You'll be able to tell immediately what kind of music I'm speaking of. A response would be appreciated, thanks!
@8x26x08 I usually dont answer questions like this but I did hear that song, and this amp could be a good match on the OD@ channel with all the bass and res cranked, but it also sounds like a 6l6 powered amp. Im sure if you look on stage when they are playing live you can see just what amp they are using, or search what gear they use on the internet.
@8x26x08 No offense, but that is kind of a STUPID question. Sunn O))) named themselves after the company Sunn O))). They made some of the most sought after amplifiers you can get. Very bass-y. They play those amps. The Model-T (limited remake now no longer made from Fender) is the amp the guitarist uses and I wish you luck in finding one on ebay that isnt well over 1000 dollars. Cause you probably wont find one anywhere else.
@tamatownskater I wouldn't call it stupid. I know all about Sunn O))) and that they use the Model T, but I don't have that kind of cash. That's why I was asking about this one because of its power, and [if needed] versatility. I mean, I can get a drone metal-esque tone out of my 200 watt solid state combo, but I need to step up a little bit. I can make $800 in one summer, but I don't even think that people will sell something so valuable for 1000. They are like, 2,3000 maybe.
@8x26x08 don't bother with a shitty solid state amp if you are going to be spending as much money as you say you are. Carvin is the way to go. You can order straight from them and get one of several tube heads that are capable of what youre talking about. Run a noiz gate or some other EQ (electro harmonix?) through it. Should make all the difference. The Vai head is like 900. The x100b is like 600. That is cheap considering theyre made in Cali and built like tanks.
Had an original JCM 800 100 watt stack that sounded good cranked....I now have the Mode four stack and it blows the 800 out of the water!!! I don't play Fenders. This amp kills on Crunch with my BC Rich Deluxe V w/ active 81 & 85. Jackson warrior also sounds great through it. My Gibson sounds phenominal on Clean. My XT live is now a boat anchor since I got this amp!!! You can't beat it. Plus it looks intense....it's about 6 inches taller than my 800.
Mode four's LOOK cool as hell. But they OD/gain channels sound like a bumble bee trapped in a coke can. It's so buzzy! Even when I tried it with passive or active pickups, it's still a buzzy, annoying mess.
When I switch between Clean to Crunch the volume jumps loads. Does it do this on anywhen elses? It's a pain as if i want to do stuff on a quiet clean part and then change to the crunch, i deafen people.
@theun4giv3n You have to get the balance by using the gain control, i have mine facing about one or two o'clock and the volume control on about 10 o'clock. Hope this helped
I'm shopping for a head buy listening to you tube demos, and im 3 min in, hoping it'll get better, but im still hating it. I have a lil 15w marshall, and it has that same hiss problem, and i play a flying v, not a strat, so it might just be the marshalls, not sure. Mesa Boogie is winning by far right now:P This guy is pretty good though.
Every amp is going to have a little hiss, it could be form the guitar your using, to signal interruption, to playing under florescent lights. This is a great amp, if your looking for a silent amp head I think your always going to be disappointed.
dude, plz help me, i have this amp for 3 days, and dont know hot to use, give me a point like: 1- connect the guitar with amp....

@itsGoboboy It need to be plugged in to a cab? It can just be played as the head individually?

@itsGoboboy If I wanted a full stack to go with this, can you recommend Marshall cabs that would go with this?

@animeaddict24711 I use a 1960 lead, but the Marshall mode four cabs I have heard are great too.

i knows this has a solid state poweramp section. soes that mean you still have to crank it for the tubes to last?
guitarman1536 9 months ago
@guitarman1536 No, it sustains well at bedroom volume. but cranking any amp is when you are going to get the best out of it.

does this amp have brutal gain sound like a modern distortion better than line6 hd147 or other highgain solidstate heads

It is more of an overdrive, and its not all solid state. It has two tubes in the preamp. If you ask me it would beat any line 6 amp.
