6 weeks post operation for L5/S1 spondlolisthesis and fusion I'm doing just great these surgeons do a wonderful job.Only problem the nerves did not recover straight away apparently this can take a year or more.
I had surgery like this 11-15-11, plus they had to insert cadaver bone in 4 lumbar levels and they took my own bone marrow and wrapped it with the donor bone. I had ruptured disks, scoliosis, spinal stenosis, and at one level had a nerve that was between two bones. I was in surgery 4 hrs. I am 7 weeks post surgery and still walk using a walker and must wear a back brace for at least 3 months. I have a lot of back pain & stay in bed for now. I feel improvement and Doc. says the pain will subside.
I had this same surgery 7 months ago in Atlanta. I'm doing fine now. I can walk normally, but can not run. I can bend from the waist, but am no longer able to twist. I'm just thankful to not be paralyzed. I do have nerve damage in my feet and lower back, but that may improve over time. This was interesting to actually get to see what was done to me.

i have spondylolisthesis (back fracture in right L5 pedicle) from a gymnastics injury and i am getting something like the surgery in LESS THAN 2 WEEKS. im only 16 and i've never been so scared. :( its so much stress i can't handle it.
@gymnastmiley95 Hey! I had my scoliosis surgery 8 months ago. I wish you good luck with your spondylolisthesis surgery! Don't be worried, your surgeon is doing 2-3 surgery's per week.. risk is minimum, you have higher chances to get runed over by a plane then getting some things complicated during the surgery.. you really can't afford any bad thoughts, because more then half of recovery is in the head:) sorry for the bad English!
@nowundo thank you for the wishes i really do appreciate it! im trying not to worry i just have all these negative things in my head something will go wrong! i guess you're right... they do this surgery a lot! and thanks again! your english was fine. :)!!
Shock therapy?? that has been proven to do more damage than it flaunts to fix. Im really concerned about your patients, and u better believe it when i say im having u investigated. Ive printed out all ur posts and i will be soon to report them to the national medical service and the FBI.
@nancymarkovich1 erm. are you suggesting a team of consultant spinal surgeons performed an expensive, risky operation... and it didn't need to be done?
@Catlover123445 Dear Catlover, Since I am a Doctor of Chiropractic and not an orthopaedic surgeon which believe gives me a more objective insight into the negative effects of such surgeries. Dear, motherfucking pile of bullshit. Since, i am actually due to have this surgery, have been in contact with the orthpaedic clinic and surgeon for many years, have done extensive research into this field, and have spoken to many who have actually undergone this particular surgery, i think i have a more reasoned and objective insight on it than you. @Catlover123445 Look at actual stats or don't. BTW cats have many transmissible diseases, including parasites, to humans. That could explain your ill health.
Im going to have you investigated. I dont know much about you or your practices, but i will do. @Catlover123445 dear cat, wake up and smell the cat litter. natural car is a great alternative to surgery but only works when someone works it. I'm getting bored of your low brow comments. bye.
Dear nancy, wake up and smell ur own big stinking pile of bullshit. Its, not an alternative to anything.. its proven to be ineffective, unless we're talking about placebo effect... but placebo is only temporary and i bet u dont moniter ur patients over a long period time.. after one appoinment they might experience some pain releif and voila conclusive proof ur method works...NOT
o wow... i wasnt born with a degenerative neuromuscular disease... the doctors have been so wrong all these years...no actually.. i was bitten by a cat at birth or something... thank u for helping me discover the truth about my illness... i was so misguided all these years..from now on i must get all my medical advise and information from u, because, of course, u are so much more knowledge, insightful and credible than those stupid actually qualified and experiecned doctors.
And jesus people....anyone who has their username as "antiagingdr" be automatically weary of them. They dont care about you, they only have their own self-indulgant interest. Cheers.
@nancymarkovich1 hello there ms. nancy. listen, i don't mean to be a stranger, and i don't want to be a burden, but i beg of you to hear me out. i know this is not your field, but i am studying neuroscience for my 10th grade high school independent research class. i wish to aspire in neurosurgery, and for that, i need an advisor in class. all you have to do is edit any work i am required to send to you, and usually you'll have a month to edit.and to inform me of any current events with
@nancymarkovich1 ..with neuroscience, and mental retardations, and help explain to me if there is a correlation between the spinal injuries, x chromosomes, and mental retardations. i am running out of time here, and need an advisor i can trust as soon as possible, but please don't be burdened. i will understand if you cannot help me, but please just consider if you can. thank you for your valuable time, and please respond to your greatest conveniance. God bless. Again, thank you. =D
DO NOT listen to this person. He does not have a liscensed medical practice, or an actual qualification to give him the authority of giving advice in this field.
i'm with you. also try mg-33. it is amazing. i used it because of debilitaing back, leg and hip pain and i could not walk with out a cane now i am running and playing rugby. truly a miracle.
@Trinibadman96 if the car accident was so serious why did they wait 5 months after it to do this surgery? most likely it wasn't as bad as they said i'm guessing but you didn't seek out other care like chiropractic. generally i have found that the people who respond well to surgery are the ones who needed it the least. people who are really bad get little results.
@nancymarkovich1 No, they did the surgery a day after. I was in critial condition, t4-t9 vertibraes were crushed. i almost died, thank you. the rods are holding my back together. If i wouldnt have gotten the surgery, I'd likely be paralyzed. I'm very thankful.
@ohjoytodaworld good luck and that was the appropriate use of rods but i see many times when they are used when the patient was not a victim of high impact injuries and overkill.
@antiagingdr This surgery was necessary for me, as I was 17 at the time, and they wanted me to be able to walk, and have a fulfilling life. the roof of my car had crushed my vertibraes as my car fell 20 feet and rolled several times, and the rods are holding the crushed vertibraes together. People get this done to relieve back pain? wow! I have constant pain, even with the rods. that is absurd, but I believe people should make their own choices. Nobody know's the extent of someones pain.
@ohjoytodaworld Hahaa i could have imagined you in critical condition and STILL going for chiropractic. You would've died even before you found a chiropractor. Anyway how did you all when the accident happened? Was it all in a blur, then you became unconscious? I'm very happy you pulled through this crisis... things happen and we have to learn to deal with it :) You're my hero!
I had this surgery done 5 months ago after a serious car accident. It has been a painful recovery, but worth it, though my life has forever changed, as I can only lift up to ten pounds. spinal surgeons are brilliant. I am so thankful for my surgeon!
@ohjoytodaworld Hi i'll be having this surgery on Dec 10. Could you pls explain to me the pain and the extent of it? How did you cope with the recovery? Thx :)
@Sisiyingying Well, it depends on the extent of surgery. Mine was so that I could walk again, as the roof of my car crushed my back. T4-T9 are still crushed, but they grinded down the bone a little. I have rods around it, 4 screws, 8 pins and it's all glued together, my surgeon says. He showed me the x-rays, and it's crazy! I was in the hospital for 10 days altogether, and on bed rest at home for about 2 months, and I am just now able to start working. I cannot bend, nor lift anything
@ohjoytodaworld Well that was a rather bad spine injury... Mine is scoliosis, i'd be having rods and screws from T4 to L3... Doctor says i will be able to bend quite a lot still, though of course lesser than before. But i've heard of rods breaking and all the other complications, it makes me hesitate if i should go for the surgery. Im 14 with curves at 55, 32.
@Sisiyingying My cousin is going to go through her 8th(!) back surgery now on monday. She's had several screws in her back getting loose, and also had the rods breaking at least twice. This time they're going to bend her lower back and replacing all screws and rods. And I sure hope it will be the last time she needs back surgery, and what she's gone through is something I hope no one will ever have to experience :(
@Sisiyingying THEY BREAK NOT BECAUSE THE SURGEON IS BAD THE WHOLE IDEA IS BAD. THERE IS NO GOING BACK. ONCE SLICED YOU ARE DICED AND NATURAL IS NOT AN OPTION. DRUGS ARE THE ONLY HOPE THEN.
@Sisiyingying GET A BETTER CHIROPRACTOR. PALMER GRAD. GET INVERSION (INVERTRAK), GET MG-33. I JUST HAD TEENAGER W/ BACK PAIN AND SEVERE SCOLIOSIS . HAD BEEN TO A CHIRO FOR 2 YEARS WITHOUT MUCH RELIEF. ONE TREATMENT WITH ADJUSTMENT,INVERSION,AND MG-33 AND GOT 50% RELIEF. GET A BETTER CHIRO. I HAVE HAD OBER 200 DIFF TO FIND THE RIGHT ONE.
@Sisiyingying more than 2 pounds until December, when I can lift 10. Listen to your surgeons, and nurses advice carefully! And be sure to take tylonel and advil to keep the swelling down, and the pain to a minimum. Honestly, it's quite painful, but you'll be tough after this. Nobody know's other pain until they go through the same thing. Good luck! let me know how it goes!
@ohjoytodaworld Tylonel and Advil? My doctor said he would give me Morphine as a pain killer. Hmm... I really don't know about the pain, my doctor said the pain killer would deal with it. Anyway, was the exterior wound more hurtful or the interior wound?
@Sisiyingying Well, for my surgery they used bone from the bone bank to fuse everything together, so it's all quite secure around the crushed vertibraes. It was extremely painful, as I wasn't on drugs for a few days at the hospital because my body couldn't handle any morphine, etc. I'm suggesting that when you get home you take tylonel+advil as it takes away pain and swelling. I no longer take anything for pain.
@ohjoytodaworld Wow i can't imagine the pain after such a major surgery and yet no NO pain killers! It must have been awful! Well, the doctor only told me morphine was gonna make the pain "not so painful" so i hope it goes well! :) Is your back still in pain now? Btw, how long ago was the accident?
@ohjoytodaworld Hi i changed surgeon at the last minute, and had keyhole surgery done! It's only 4 small incision(around 3cm) and 1 rod, 7 screws! I think the whole surgery was quite manageable with Morphine... It's been about 1 and half months after my op and I'm doing fine :)
i have patients like yourself and the adjustments help just as well as the rods but you don't understand it because you haven't seen it. in any event i'm happy you were helped but if you had started chiropractic treatment before your spine got so bad you probably would have avoided surgery like my patients have.
@antiagingdr I have went through 2 different chiropractic treatments for 2 years, now im facing with surgery in 3 months time. So it doesn't help everyone after all.
@Sisiyingying I don't know your condition but if it were me I would do anything else. get an inversion (invertrac) and a MG-33 (check them out at my website) believe me when i tell you you will wish you had listened. otherwise if you have given up on natural i wish you luck and good health.
@antiagingdr Well its wrong to say chiropractic helps as much as rods. Because rods CAN correct every single patient while chiropractic corrects few patients, even though it can, it is not common. I have so many friends, including myself who have went for chiropractic, not just 1 and condition continued to deteriorate.
@Sisiyingying sis,you don't know what you're talking about and i am wasting my time trying to help you. you don't even know what mg-33,atm-2, is or have used inversion correctly and i doubt you have had competent chiropractic care. if you think rods are going to correct you you will see. get your surgery and don't send me any more messages.
@Sisiyingying sisi you are out of control if you think the pain is going to go away with this surgery. you almost make me laugh if it weren't so serious. the only thing that will take the pain away after this surgery is meds. you will be addicted to pain meds post surgery if you aren't already.
@nancymarkovich1 I don't think so, i'm pretty sure there will be pain post-op but that's not the point. The point is that post-op, my nerves will be functioning properly, my organs will be functioning properly. My friend went for surgery and is dancing 1 month post-op. So it may not be as bad as you think, though we never know. Whatever it is, if you decide to believe in sth, you have to have faith in it. Since i choose surgery, im giving all my faith to it, i leave it to God.
@sos729 as i have said before. get chiropractic care, mg-33 and inversion (also don't forget supplements). this is what works for me. my back is screwed as well with a 20 degree scoliosis but i control it with all the therapies. those who have had the surgey and claim excellent results also forget to mention their function is nil and that they also are on heavy does of meds that kill you slowly. i'll take my natural approach.
@nancymarkovich1 Well i think you shoudn't assume that everyone who went through surgery is relying on meds and that their function is nil. I just want to say that chiropractic doesn't work on everyone. If it works for you, then great, you can take the natural approach. But for others, when chiropractic doesn't help and the curve is affecting their heart and lungs, they HAVE to go for the surgery. And if they hold that faith, pls don't diminish their hope.
You are right we people don't known what you went through. now you are cured, off all meds, and can do anything you want. let's be realistic. You probably never tried Chiropractic (maybe 1-2 treatments), now you are stuck doing nothing. You have to be scared when you drive a car in fear you will be hit and rip the screws and rods out and you probably are close to being dependent on narcotics. We people don't know what you went through and you people don't know what we go through daily either.
i dont take pain pills or nothing no the rods will not hurt nothing and i had the best doctor you can find in toledo i had no choice hunch back from kyphosis can only be cured by a surgery or brace but mainly surgery
@antiagingdr My kind Scared, to take that risk of losing feeling in the legs and life. Shot in back taking care of you so u can have ur fun and while ur having fun I'm hurting. I'm taking the time to get killed. Wake up and see we all have fears and pain. You may take it more then me but GET SHOT and see how it feels
hi my name is matt i had back surgery on june 18th and it was kinda like this and i had kyphosis its like scoliohsis but its a hunch back and i had 2 rods and 25 screwsput in my back to take my hunch out i had a 88 degree curve now its at 50 witch is straight and i am now a month out of surgery and i have no pain and the screws are drilled in too my spine the kyphosis is bad but can be fixed who ever has kyphosis if you have the chance to fix it
@skater8827 that's great skater but for ever positive response there are 2 that got lousy results. better to use all the mechanical means available: ATM-2, inversion, stretching on swiss ball, and chiropractic. good luck.
I used to have quite severe Scoliosis, my back disappeared behind my shoulder blade and I used to have lot’s of facial pain – lots of blinking and facial spasms.
At 38 I got it fixed without an operation using a machine called Theraflex and the blinking stopped and the whole back is visible. Get your Physio/Oesteo/Chiro/Doctor to get one.

@robinmosler i respect your current position but what else is there to do in a true medical need? was that not your case maybe and you shoulda waited aa few years or what are you suggesting?
my 14 year old daughter had this op yesterday and i just couldnt resist looking at what she went through, now ive seen it i wish i didnt know, no wonder shes in agony. all that said, her curved spine is now straight and the op appears to have been a success so, hopefully all the pain shes gone through will have been worth it, shes certainly a hell of lot braver than i am.
Hi, I had this op a few months ago at Stanmore hospital and whilst I don't know to what degree your daughter's spine was curved, I can tell you that once you begin to recover you feel great, and the operation (whilst it is painful in the first couple of weeks) is definitely worth it. I still get a few aches every now and then, but for the most part painkillers (paracetamol etc) can compensate for that.
@Swrtzjstn12 you have to be kidding. i'm a Chiropractor and these procedures are so invasive and all someone needs in most cases is stretching, chiropractic and exercise. don't be fooled by the glamor of the MD. this is probably the most pointless surgery currently done. it does not correct scoliosis and you are forever a pawn to pain killers and future surgery.
@Swrtzjstn12 WOW you're training to be a surgeon? That's great, im aspiring to be one too! Im only 14 now so still got a long way to go. Hope i can make it and become a spinal surgeon!
@Swrtzjstn12 Hahaa im currently in of the top schools so hope i can get into med first. My brother got into med so im inspired too! :) Hahaa i'll really work hard towards this career as a spinal surgeon!
@Sisiyingying Wow,nice. I could never get to the top of the school, I was in the middle. You are going to do well in med school! keep up the good work!:D
@Swrtzjstn12 Hahaa nono im not top of the school i mean im in one of the top schools hahaa, like in primary school i was top 5 in the school and got into this good secondary school. But i have 4 more years before taking an exam+interview and everything to decide if i can study medicine! Wow then if manage to enter medicine i still have to stdy general medicine, then specialise in the spine... that's a long way to go! :)
Did anyone else notice when they clamp off a peice of the hardware, and do so over the open cavity? Did anyone notice the jolt downard that the clamp makes while the rod is clipped/cut to the correct shape/bend.... I would think that that could have been cut at least away from the open cavity, so that no shards of metal could fall, or so that the jolt from cutting might accidentally jab the patient.
Wouldn't it make more sense to monitor the spinal cord for signs of potential damage every second rather than look at it after the operation is done. Hell if damage was done what good is it if it can not be reversed. Seems to me someone should monitor every second and if any rythm of the monitor shows the slightest abnormality then change procedure THEN. and continue on.
The spine is monitored through out the enitre surgery. BBC just showed the final monitoring, which is done just before they start to close. Most "damage" ie: pain, numbness, loss of control, etc... can be relieved by repositioning or removing the hardware.
I agree, doctors now need education on how to use drills, screws and proper installation of the new devices. There is a big difference in the medical training they got and all these new invention and exponential growth in the surgical hardware market. Mostly drug companies but all of them are trying to build the better mouse trap and we humans are the test subjects. I have an L1 burst fracture google corpectomy if you want to see intense surgery. Thats what Im faceing.
@coleygross You do realize that they do receive training on the things you're talking about, right? An orthopaedic surgeon's education continues for nearly 10 years after his graduation from medical school and they are constantly re-evaluated on their skills. Probably the driving force is $: the hospitals and insurance companies want to avoid lawsuits, but hey, it works. Also, someone does monitor the scope constantly; they only televised the end for the storytelling value.
@vernemszalka I've had mine for 15 yrs ;) and suddenly my body has started rejecting these rods so it means I will have to go under knife again!! These rods have to be removed asap. :( My op is scheduled for next month. Hopefully it wont happen 2 u cheers
My Gaughter had this surgery in Sept. I watched a siniliar video years ago. She is now 13 and even after her surgery is still in a brace. She has been braced for 10 years. She had severe Scoliosis and it was discovered at 2 1/2 years old. Hers is considered congenital and they say it was from early manipulation of her spine due to the open heart surgery she had at 5 days old. She had her spinal fusion done at Shriners Hospital In Shreveport La they are the best! Great Drs and great staff!
ok i am being sireos i want to become a spineul surgery but i do not know what subjects i should take in scholl i am 13 but this year i pick my gcse i live in the uk so plz if any of you know a surgon plese rely and help me im being sireos
the last time i checked, it is still classified as 'idiopathic', which means it has no known cause. but birth defects are associated with this med. condition.
scoliosis. is in basic terms a crooked spine. some people have uneven shoulders, usually meaning the have scoliosis, but really you either get it by birth. or bad posture over time. i currently have scoliosis, i think they said a 14 degree spine angle, with my left shoulder being lower, no surgery is needed unless its serious, such as 30-ish, but usually you get a brace before surgery.
you don't need a brace before surgery. they said if your already in the state of needing surgery, giving a brace would be pointless because it's already sooo bad.
and it's around 40-50 degrees that surgery is required. 20-40 degrees is usually brace time.
I have scoliosis, and nothing really "causes" it. You're just kinda born with it.
And it can get worse if it wants to or not. You can go to a doctor and TRY to control it from getting worse with this thing called a brace, but that doesn't always work.
But usually if your done growing, and you don't have it, you won't get it.

Trinibadman96 1 year ago
@Trinibadman96 if the car accident was so serious why did they wait 5 months after it to do this surgery? most likely it wasn't as bad as they said i'm guessing but you didn't seek out other care like chiropractic. generally i have found that the people who respond well to surgery are the ones who needed it the least. people who are really bad get little results.
nancymarkovich1 1 year ago
@nancymarkovich1 No, they did the surgery a day after. I was in critial condition, t4-t9 vertibraes were crushed. i almost died, thank you. the rods are holding my back together. If i wouldnt have gotten the surgery, I'd likely be paralyzed. I'm very thankful.
ohjoytodaworld 1 year ago
@ohjoytodaworld good luck and that was the appropriate use of rods but i see many times when they are used when the patient was not a victim of high impact injuries and overkill.
antiagingdr 1 year ago
@antiagingdr This surgery was necessary for me, as I was 17 at the time, and they wanted me to be able to walk, and have a fulfilling life. the roof of my car had crushed my vertibraes as my car fell 20 feet and rolled several times, and the rods are holding the crushed vertibraes together. People get this done to relieve back pain? wow! I have constant pain, even with the rods. that is absurd, but I believe people should make their own choices. Nobody know's the extent of someones pain.
ohjoytodaworld 1 year ago

@ohjoytodaworld It's this or sit in a chair paralyzed for the rest of your life.
I am more than glad you recovered from such difficult things!
Take care of yourself.

@ohjoytodaworld Hi i'll be having this surgery on Dec 10. Could you pls explain to me the pain and the extent of it? How did you cope with the recovery? Thx :)
Sisiyingying 1 year ago
@Sisiyingying Well, it depends on the extent of surgery. Mine was so that I could walk again, as the roof of my car crushed my back. T4-T9 are still crushed, but they grinded down the bone a little. I have rods around it, 4 screws, 8 pins and it's all glued together, my surgeon says. He showed me the x-rays, and it's crazy! I was in the hospital for 10 days altogether, and on bed rest at home for about 2 months, and I am just now able to start working. I cannot bend, nor lift anything
ohjoytodaworld 1 year ago
@ohjoytodaworld Well that was a rather bad spine injury... Mine is scoliosis, i'd be having rods and screws from T4 to L3... Doctor says i will be able to bend quite a lot still, though of course lesser than before. But i've heard of rods breaking and all the other complications, it makes me hesitate if i should go for the surgery. Im 14 with curves at 55, 32.
Sisiyingying 1 year ago
@Sisiyingying My cousin is going to go through her 8th(!) back surgery now on monday. She's had several screws in her back getting loose, and also had the rods breaking at least twice. This time they're going to bend her lower back and replacing all screws and rods. And I sure hope it will be the last time she needs back surgery, and what she's gone through is something I hope no one will ever have to experience :(
ZhenNi2006 1 year ago
@ZhenNi2006 How did the screws and rods break so many times? Did the surgeon do a bad job?! what rods did your cousin use? Herrington?
Sisiyingying 1 year ago
@Sisiyingying THEY BREAK NOT BECAUSE THE SURGEON IS BAD THE WHOLE IDEA IS BAD. THERE IS NO GOING BACK. ONCE SLICED YOU ARE DICED AND NATURAL IS NOT AN OPTION. DRUGS ARE THE ONLY HOPE THEN.

antiagingdr 1 year ago
@Sisiyingying more than 2 pounds until December, when I can lift 10. Listen to your surgeons, and nurses advice carefully! And be sure to take tylonel and advil to keep the swelling down, and the pain to a minimum. Honestly, it's quite painful, but you'll be tough after this. Nobody know's other pain until they go through the same thing. Good luck! let me know how it goes!
ohjoytodaworld 1 year ago
@ohjoytodaworld Tylonel and Advil? My doctor said he would give me Morphine as a pain killer. Hmm... I really don't know about the pain, my doctor said the pain killer would deal with it. Anyway, was the exterior wound more hurtful or the interior wound?
Sisiyingying 1 year ago
@Sisiyingying Well, for my surgery they used bone from the bone bank to fuse everything together, so it's all quite secure around the crushed vertibraes. It was extremely painful, as I wasn't on drugs for a few days at the hospital because my body couldn't handle any morphine, etc. I'm suggesting that when you get home you take tylonel+advil as it takes away pain and swelling. I no longer take anything for pain.
ohjoytodaworld 1 year ago

Sisiyingying 1 year ago
@Sisiyingying I don't know your condition but if it were me I would do anything else. get an inversion (invertrac) and a MG-33 (check them out at my website) believe me when i tell you you will wish you had listened. otherwise if you have given up on natural i wish you luck and good health.
nancymarkovich1 1 year ago
@nancymarkovich1 Yeah i hope for the best for the surgery. I have done my best and will leave the rest to fate.
Sisiyingying 1 year ago
@antiagingdr Well its wrong to say chiropractic helps as much as rods. Because rods CAN correct every single patient while chiropractic corrects few patients, even though it can, it is not common. I have so many friends, including myself who have went for chiropractic, not just 1 and condition continued to deteriorate.
Sisiyingying 1 year ago
@Sisiyingying sis,you don't know what you're talking about and i am wasting my time trying to help you. you don't even know what mg-33,atm-2, is or have used inversion correctly and i doubt you have had competent chiropractic care. if you think rods are going to correct you you will see. get your surgery and don't send me any more messages.

sos729 1 year ago
@sos729 What happened? It shouldn't hurt after 2-3 weeks! Did you go back to your doctor?
Sisiyingying 1 year ago
@Sisiyingying sisi you are out of control if you think the pain is going to go away with this surgery. you almost make me laugh if it weren't so serious. the only thing that will take the pain away after this surgery is meds. you will be addicted to pain meds post surgery if you aren't already.
nancymarkovich1 1 year ago
@nancymarkovich1 I don't think so, i'm pretty sure there will be pain post-op but that's not the point. The point is that post-op, my nerves will be functioning properly, my organs will be functioning properly. My friend went for surgery and is dancing 1 month post-op. So it may not be as bad as you think, though we never know. Whatever it is, if you decide to believe in sth, you have to have faith in it. Since i choose surgery, im giving all my faith to it, i leave it to God.
Sisiyingying 1 year ago
@sos729 as i have said before. get chiropractic care, mg-33 and inversion (also don't forget supplements). this is what works for me. my back is screwed as well with a 20 degree scoliosis but i control it with all the therapies. those who have had the surgey and claim excellent results also forget to mention their function is nil and that they also are on heavy does of meds that kill you slowly. i'll take my natural approach.
nancymarkovich1 1 year ago
@nancymarkovich1 Well i think you shoudn't assume that everyone who went through surgery is relying on meds and that their function is nil. I just want to say that chiropractic doesn't work on everyone. If it works for you, then great, you can take the natural approach. But for others, when chiropractic doesn't help and the curve is affecting their heart and lungs, they HAVE to go for the surgery. And if they hold that faith, pls don't diminish their hope.
Sisiyingying 1 year ago
@Sisiyingying faith has nothing to do with it. if it works it works. fact is it don't work that good. wake up before it's too late.

Sisiyingying 1 year ago
You are right we people don't known what you went through. now you are cured, off all meds, and can do anything you want. let's be realistic. You probably never tried Chiropractic (maybe 1-2 treatments), now you are stuck doing nothing. You have to be scared when you drive a car in fear you will be hit and rip the screws and rods out and you probably are close to being dependent on narcotics. We people don't know what you went through and you people don't know what we go through daily either.

At 38 I got it fixed without an operation using a machine called Theraflex and the blinking stopped and the whole back is visible. Get your Physio/Oesteo/Chiro/Doctor to get one.

my 14 year old daughter had this op yesterday and i just couldnt resist looking at what she went through, now ive seen it i wish i didnt know, no wonder shes in agony. all that said, her curved spine is now straight and the op appears to have been a success so, hopefully all the pain shes gone through will have been worth it, shes certainly a hell of lot braver than i am.
straycat39 1 year ago
@straycat39
I hope the recover goes well!

Seems to me someone should monitor every second and if any rythm of the monitor shows the slightest abnormality then change procedure THEN. and continue on.
coleygross 2 years ago
The spine is monitored through out the enitre surgery. BBC just showed the final monitoring, which is done just before they start to close. Most "damage" ie: pain, numbness, loss of control, etc... can be relieved by repositioning or removing the hardware.
chocolatecandylady21 1 year ago
I agree, doctors now need education on how to use drills, screws and proper installation of the new devices. There is a big difference in the medical training they got and all these new invention and exponential growth in the surgical hardware market. Mostly drug companies but all of them are trying to build the better mouse trap and we humans are the test subjects. I have an L1 burst fracture google corpectomy if you want to see intense surgery. Thats what Im faceing.
coleygross 2 years ago
@coleygross You do realize that they do receive training on the things you're talking about, right? An orthopaedic surgeon's education continues for nearly 10 years after his graduation from medical school and they are constantly re-evaluated on their skills. Probably the driving force is $: the hospitals and insurance companies want to avoid lawsuits, but hey, it works. Also, someone does monitor the scope constantly; they only televised the end for the storytelling value.

what can cause scoliosis? plz respond i tried to find it but i get like these really scientific answers i just want a simple answer
rocker011496 2 years ago
the last time i checked, it is still classified as 'idiopathic', which means it has no known cause. but birth defects are associated with this med. condition.
plplmi09 2 years ago
scoliosis. is in basic terms a crooked spine. some people have uneven shoulders, usually meaning the have scoliosis, but really you either get it by birth. or bad posture over time. i currently have scoliosis, i think they said a 14 degree spine angle, with my left shoulder being lower, no surgery is needed unless its serious, such as 30-ish, but usually you get a brace before surgery.
futuresoldier7 2 years ago
you don't need a brace before surgery. they said if your already in the state of needing surgery, giving a brace would be pointless because it's already sooo bad.
and it's around 40-50 degrees that surgery is required. 20-40 degrees is usually brace time.
totalBEEFCAKE 2 years ago
It could be genetics (if any relatives have scoliosis), if there's too much pressure put on the spine during a regular routine, etc.
Billowix 2 years ago
I have scoliosis, and nothing really "causes" it. You're just kinda born with it.
And it can get worse if it wants to or not. You can go to a doctor and TRY to control it from getting worse with this thing called a brace, but that doesn't always work.
But usually if your done growing, and you don't have it, you won't get it.
totalBEEFCAKE 2 years ago
Nothing causes it you're just born with it and it's natural in people. Most people get it at birth.
