  • 11 not bad at all!

  • @jman66053 This wasnt any bit floored. I went WOT in an In depth tour I made if you find it

  • @Intechdude300 wow thats impressive!and ill try to find it!

  • @jman66053 It's titled: 1996 Ford Explorer XLT 5.0 V8 In Depth Tour, 0-60, & Test Drive - 191K

Many miles added since this vid lol

  • @Intechdude300 thanks!

  • 11 seconds..Not bad

  • Good to do that with a cold engine, enjoy the ensuing piston slap.

  • @wootness3000

ending unit for the temp was bad and it never sent the reading to the gauge. Not the case anymore as it was a $15 fix & the truck looks, sounds, and runs great at 195K currently.

  • @Intechdude300 The gauge moves even in the video, it's getting a signal of some sort.

Besides if something like that went out, the gauge would either be stuck down, or doing all sorts of weird shit.

  • @wootness3000

Uhh no, sometimes it never showed a reading at all, sometimes it would move to half a quarter the drop back down.... Full signal was never transmitted and when some was it would break off again. Now that I fixed it, withIn 5 minutes it will be just almost 1/2 way which in this video, the truck had more than 20 minutes running b4 I did that drive.

  • @Intechdude300 Usually on older ford's, that is warm. I know on my 91 ranger, fully warmed up is on that first little line above the C.

  • I see yours is just as slow as mine is,lol! I got my 97 6 years ago with 115000 on it,168750 now and in that time the only thing i have done to it is a $15 dollar fuel shut off switch,a $450 radiator and a $20 idler pulley. Dont use any oil and runs like a swiss watch!

  • @zLOSTNOMOREz

Check out my In Depth Tour of this truck which I did a month ago, Theres a 0-60 in it where it did go faster. Vid also is better quality

  • ford exploder fucking shitboxes

  • @SuperTamponBandit

Um, I don't think so. Not the 96-01 V8 versions. Got it with 158,000 miles, Now has 194,000 miles without any problems.

Besides, it has the same engine V8 as the 1993-2001 Falcons that u may be more familiar to.

  • @Intechdude300 ford is anus fullstop Australia ford is the worst

  • @SuperTamponBandit LOL agreed!

  • My V6 Mustang would walk all over this thing haha FAIL!!

  • @SuperTamponBandit I have a 98 with a 4.0 sohc and it aint no shitbox you idiot

it has 358,000km's on it and still going strong

can you say that bout your vehicles or do you have one

  • @mattmatt115 like i care that you own one of these turds as well!!! have them come into my workplace alllll the time busted tailshafts fuked brakes, wrecked diffs!!! fucking shitboxes do yourself a favour burn it

  • @SuperTamponBandit Fucked brakes?? Well thats a rare problem on vehicles now isnt it......... Busted tailshafts? Hmm never seen that happen..... Wrecked diffs??? what did the owner let the oil spew out the seals until it was dry and then take her for a highway run? Are you retarded?? Explorers have ford 8.8 rear ends which are bullet proof

Burn it? nah, i think i will keep driving it like i have done for the last bunch of years..... dumbass

  • 302's are great engines...I just bought a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer with the 302 and AWD. The thing is loaded to the hilt with leather, power everything, sunroof, leather interior. it had 136k when I got it...it now has 139 k and runs like a champ...I know also what a 302 will do and I don't hot rod it... But it will kick ass when I want it to..

  • @scott93257

    Cool!!!

  • I'll stick with the overhead cam V6 in my explorer..i'd do circles around those junk 302's

  • That wasnt flat out was it??? I hope not! Cause my v6 SOHC does it in 10 seconds.

  • In 10 seconds huh, well lets see it race against a Ram 3500

  • factory shift points are ~4800rpm, rev limit is 5-5500 limmited by the PCM, wont hit 6k with factory PCM.

AL4D is a lightduty 4spd only found behind 4.0L 1gen and early 2gen explorers before the improved verson of the AL4D (4R44E/4R55E) and finaly the 5spd auto (5R55E). The 4r70w found in second gen 5.0L only is derived from F150 and other ford RWD platforms, 4r75w was never optioned on a 2gen 5.0L and the 4r75w (to my knolage) was only used in 5.4L F150/HD variants

  • @theblackmech * "5.0L only ^and^ is derived" *

  • @theblackmech

4R75W were also avail in 04 or 05 & up Town Cars, Marquis/Crown Vics.

Mustang GT, Marauder & most 5.4 Equipped trucks got an early cut in 2003. And the 4R75E more standardized after 06

  • Are the 4 speed automatics better in these then the A4LD in the first gen explorers?

  • @Hotrodx199

Yes, these 4R70W transmissions are better. It's what 4.6 Expeditions & F-150's, Grand Marquis/Crown Victorias, & Town Cars have used for years.

Town Cars can go 400k or more on a properly maintained 4r70w.

This Explorer now has 186k on the original transmission. The only thing I've had to do was change the Torque converter which was an easy $120.

Essentially it's a similar but much more beefed up, more electronic control, quicker shifting & etc.

  • @Intechdude300 Great to hear! Because the A4LD we had in our 92 was nothing but problems. A vacuum leak that couldnt find screwed everything up. Eventually i pulled the dipstick and it smelled like a burnt toaster, so we sad screw it and sold it yesterday

  • @Hotrodx199

I think Ford now calls it 4R75W which is even better than the 4R70W. Shifts are smoother yet quicker, more precise, even more reliable, & smarter.

What I wished I could've had was the current 6 speed transmission used in the 2006 & newer V8 Explorers. That would've definitely given a sweet boost to this 5.0.

  • @Intechdude300 Sweet. Also could these things shift at 6 grand if you wanted it too?

  • @Hotrodx199

Maybe, but I'm not gonna try with these miles.

  • @Intechdude300 That's probably a good idea. These 302s will go forever, at least the older ones... Grapndas bronco has 368k on it and it still ran good when he sold it

  • @Hotrodx199 yeah mine shifts there, still slow as shit

  • yea im thinkin bout gettin me this generation explorer, my uncle has 1 with 180k miles and it runs really strong like it has 30k miles

  • wow the jetta tdi revs higher than this crap

  • my 5.0 explorer just hit 140K. Runs perfectly.

  • Specifically it is called the Windsor engine built at the windsor ontario Canada plant this was used in the earliest mustang

  • i have a green 96 5.0 explorer awd runs pretty quick for its heavy body. its a fun one to drive in the winter and going off roading when my mustang is in the garage.

  • why are the gears in the v8s so far apart but in the V6 there so close together

  • All the V8's from 96-2001 got a 4-Speed Transmission.

    The V6's from 97-Present use a 5-Speed. I think Some V6's up until 2000 used a 4-speed.

Ford probably did this because the 5.0 V8 had so much more Torque over the V6 and the 5-Speed probably couldn't of handled it. And the 4 speed at the time was more suitable for pulling heavy loads.

  • Floor it next time.....

  • Wow i even like fords thats pathetic

  • it runs good but definately doenst haul ass!

  • is there a bit of reverb at the beginning when it starts? or is that a good exhaust system?

  • the v8's have a diffrent sound then the v6

  • @jmc9109 do they?

  • @scrogathon yeah i have a 99 explorer 4.0 ohv and 1st and 2nd gear are only about 500 rpms apart in the shift ratio

  • ops i meant 175k

  • i have a 1997 explorer and i took it up to 110,thats were the speed limiter stopped me but it was only at about 4000 rpm still had plennty of power left got there quick to.and mine has 1750000 miles on the 5.0

  • @coltonwithano

Mine did 181k last week, it's about 200 miles short of 182k.

Got mine at auction 2 years ago for $575 at auction. No dents, rust, new Michelins, Interior is perfect. All I had to do was put in a new Camshaft Synchronizer ($42) which is the part the replaced the distributer. Trucks paid off quite well I think. Driving it normally and I can get 20.5 MPG Highway. 21MPG with the A/C off in the winter.

  • Why would you have the A/C on in the winter to begin with?

  • @fsherman898

In FL, why would you not use the A/C in FL??? Look at the date I uploaded.

In New England I can understand.

  • @coltonwithano damn, 1,750,000 miles?! thats a lot hahahahaha

  • And considering the fact that two years later Ford had the 4.0L explorer pushing 200BHP, 215 from a 5.0L with that time isnt bad at all. Remember your talking about a SUV and not a sports car like your thinking it is. It's made to haul a 26ft trailer like ours did, and do it very well. If you want to compare 0-60times do that with a Civic and a mustang. If you want to haul a 26ft trailer you can do that with a explorer.

  • @SSshane6d9

HP may not be much between the 2 but theres a bigger Torque difference. I don't even argue with other Honda/Toyota Fanboys (like the dude below) anymore. A video like this and they already assume this is all it's got.

    @like73ninjas

It may not be quick off the line. But you will not get passed this thing once it's @ speed, say over 60MPH and trying to sprint to 80. I may have to do upload that. I didn't want to floor it do to the milage.

  • I am not a Honda/Toyota fanboy. I'm Chevy all the way dumbass. I was insulting you by saying even a pos Honda could pass your pos Explorer, so learn to read.

Also, if it's got more than what the video shows then prove it.

  • @like73ninjas

LOL.. Chevy all the way?? That just makes things even better. Wow, No wonder it was quite easy to push your button. I don't need to prove you $h!t. You're whining at me like a B!t*h when you have the luxury look elsewhere to get your answer? (learn to read & Dumbass) Was the best u can come up with? It would be my pleasure just to hear what else you come up with. I'm all ears with the insults, Bring them on LOL...

  • That's exactly what I expected. You know your Explorer can't do shit, and little imports with inline 4s and v6s can tear it up. And you're acting all high and mighty... lol what a joke.

  • @like73ninjas

High & mighty LOL. So, how do u explain yourself?? A f**kin undertaker??

You stress that I should learn to read when the info section is in plain english. Oh, No $h!t. Really? a Chevy dude??

Most fun I've had on here in weeks. Seriously, Keep em coming!!!!

  • I stressed that you should learn how to read because you claimed that I was a "Honda/Toyota fanboy". Now tell me where I said that I like Honda/Toyota.

If you have this much fun from a simple conversation then maybe you should try having sex or finding some kind of hobby. There are other things out there man.

How do I explain myself? I love GM, I hate most of Ford's products, Dodge makes cars from recycled tin cans and I have a life. Good day, sir.

  • @like73ninjas

I like your last exit line, So Articulate. A life? Seems you don't have much of one as you do respond to whatever I throw at you, even on the holiday's.

Me? I like Ford, GM, and dislike most Chryslers. European cars do appeal to me but I have nothing really pleasing to mention about Asian made cars. Your dislike to Fords explains everything.

  • All right then. I like what I like, you like what you like.

    Happy holidays.

  • "Everyone knows the capabilities of Fords 5.0 v8"? The 5.0 is slow as hell stock, so do you think you are badass for driving a big "Mustang"? That 0-60 was slower than most newer inline 4s.

  • lol. U right.

  • That was a Ford explorer with a 5.0L V8 that in that year produced 215BHP. So with a 168thousand miles produces a little less. Never the elss for a 4000 pound SUV that isnt bad, considering he wasnt at full throttle. Considering the V8 is in a explorer and was never made top be a speed beast. It's not to bad, lets even the playing field. Lets add 2000 pounds to a civic or put 3 inches of snow on the ground and lets see what the 0-60 is on the inline 4's!!!!!!!!!! Dont be such a asshole dude.

  • 1st- he only claimed he wasn't at full throttle. Why would someone make a 0-60 vid and not run all out?

2nd- I wasn't being an asshole. I was pointing out that "the capabilities of Fords 5.0 v8" are something acquired AFTER a rebuild. you don't just buy a 200ish hp 5.0 and brag about it's "capabilities".

3rd-If a Civic weighed an extra ton they probably wouldn't have an inline 4.

  • Actually watch the shift points. You can tell he's not full throttle. The Fords explorer iwth a V8 shift points are at 5200RPM at full throttle. I know I had one, also A 5.0L in a V8 was never made for peroformance, it was never made to be a performance out all engine. It was just an option. But yes any eigne can do a lot after being modded. But as I said lets even the playing field a bit, I'll even let you pick a k20. But lets do the 0-60 time in 3 inches of snow or mud.

  • I wouldn't pick a k20 or any Honda for that matter. I was saying that an inline 4 can beat a big old Explorer 5.0 to 60 and probably in a quarter. I just thought it was funny that intechdude300 said "quick" 0-60 and he doesn't think flooring it is necessary for an acceleration run. Why would someone do a 0-60 in snow or mud???

  • I was saying to even the odd's a little. Again an explorer was never meant to be a Civic killer. Thats why mustang GT's and Cobra's and GT500 are around. But when comparing the two you have to realise your comparing a grape to a watermelon. Size and weight matters, and this may be a quick time for a Explorer. But you compared the time to a inline 4. And when you did you basically compared that grape toa watermelon. catch my drift

  • Yes, but the problem with this is how massively slow it is. Is he doing it in reverse or something? This isn't a quick time for a "watermelon" from the mid 90's.

  • @like73ninjas

In the 80's and 90's Hp numbers were down all across the board. And for a 2 ton vehicle and prolly a 3.73 rear end and being a SUV only having the 215BHP. Ummm I dont think that watermellon did that bad, considering a Civic form that same time with 100BHP with a 5 speed and weighting less then half does it a tad bit quicker to the same time. So all in all NOT REALLY. The explorer for being an SUV held it's own with only 215BHP. .

  • This argument could go on for years... I believe we should just agree to disagree. Good game, sir.

  • @like73ninjas

I believe your right haha, have a good one, and I know it's a little early but merry christmas dude. and have a happy new years

  • Yeah thanks man, you too.

  • Well, apparently, he said he wasn't flooring it. (See info)

  • No shit. It's still slow.

  • Yeah, but you're still an asshole. Merry Christmas.

  • I don't know what I would do without your opinion! I guess I should turn over a new leaf now because ScorpioFuror says I'm an asshole. Merry Christmas.

  • You decide what you want to do; it's your choice.

  • Man I miss my moms Ford Explorer I live on a farm im 14 by the way but anyway my mom bought a Volvo S60 and anyway she was driving a 1996 Ford Explorer XLT and I drove it around but I kept driving it around on Empty because It kept going then it shut off then i was a dumbass trying to keep cranking it up and now itll like crank if you spray ether on this thing but if you dont spray either on it itll shut off on you I think its the fuel pump but this happned last year but can yall help me out?

  • If it's only starting on Eather, than yeah, that's a fuel problem. And it could be the fuel pump that's gone bad, and it could also be the injectors.

  • dude i just bought 1 of these for my 1st car 1998 ford explorer 5.0 v8 all wheel drive...i love that thing!!!!!

  • nice! but you should have let it warm up completely before doing that x_x

  • It was warm, it had a bad Temperature Sensor / Sender. I got it at AutoZone for like $10 and now the temperature is just under half way which is normal even with a 195 degree thermostat which I also put put on.

  • yeah i have this and a 96' mustang... i like drinving this a little better but my mustang has a better system haha

  • wish ford still made those 5.0's, good engines

my grandpa an explorer like that, good truck

  • nice car

  • not bad yours awd?

  • Mines 2WD.

  • oh yeah the motherfucker hauls ass allright

  • Awesome begining!

  • I'm gonna do a muffler and Rev vid soon of this.

  • cool.
