I have 1 suggestion, watch how much grease is being put in the speedo side of the wheel. I believe I put too much in mine and grease found its way up into the speedo housing. When it gets below 55' my speedo works when it wants to, odomiter is always working. Think grease made its way up the cable.
@klrbiker That's an interesting observation. I'm guessing you have a different issue that happens coincidentally. I fill that speedo housing up with grease and have never had a problem even in temps that the battery alone can't start the bike (-10 F).
Thank so much for taking the time to do it. Great video and instructions. I was primarily looking for a lift to use but learned how to change the front tire at the same time!
Is the grease you use on the bike the same for pretty much all the applications,or do you need all different types of grease? What is the grease you use? Thanks
Well I just got trailer d home with a flat front tire on my klr! 120 km and she went flat!Hang on tight especially when you hit about 50 km she really starts to wobble. Thanks for the good video. There was some good little tips on re & re.
Just started this job to discover the stock tool kit on my 2006 came with a 24mm wrench and not the required 22 mm. Glad I did not discover this outside of my garage.
I just had my rear tire replace... I could break the bead (of course... I didn't have the right tools. :-\ ). I'm probably going to get some tire irons (spoons) soon. I'll probably need to replace the front one in about 3,000 miles (maybe sooner; I've got 7,200 on it right now :-) )
I just removed and installed my KLR front wheel. I had to redo it three times until I realized the speedo housing did not line up with the slots on the wheel. Problem is it fit like it did. Then I would tighten the axle a little and the wheel did not spin so I knew it was something. Just wanted to say this needs emphasized.Check the speedo housing carefully. I also found it easier to remove the brakes.
Thanks for the video. I am taking my wheel off today to get it rebalanced. When I get he bike up past 70-80 mph I get wobble in the front end. Now I know what sockets to grab and will try out my new torque wrench. Keep up the good work with the video's of the KLR maintenance we appreciate it. It is a great quick reference we can always refer to.
Have you checked tire pressure? I would also check the steering head nut (just under the center of the handlebar); those tend to vibrate loose and the nut underneath the top bridge can loosen (this is the nut that keeps the steering in order...)
Hey, many thanks for doing this! It really helps to SEE and hear the narrative on the little hints on how to do this. I've bumbled through it before, but putting the wheel back on and lining everything up was what was difficult for me. I see how you're sitting on the ground, supporting it with your feet, whereas I had the front high off the ground and it took two people to try to hold the wheel in just the right position...it was a pain. Your method is much easier...thanks!
Excellent instructional video! Very concise and even the socket, wrench sizes and torque is mentioned! I just bought a new 2008 KLR 650 and I know I will find your videos to be a great help. Thanks

THANKS FOR YOUR VIDEO,
Was able to pull off my tire and patch it up with confident and ease.....
info on the sizes of socket and wrench were very helpful
came to find out that Powersports when they changed out the tire did not add any grease at all to the spedometer cable housing....
was going to take my bike in to Powersports to be change out the tire on but after I saw your video decided to tackle this on myself
glad I did...got a real sense of acomplishment of doing it myself! THANKS!

Feel free to make a donation!
I'm not sure what that one is. I recently bought a Craftsman that looks very similar to that one and works great.

@zatikweq no... there are 4 6mm hex pinch bolts that must also be removed

Great job! It would be great if you could create a video of how to break the tire bead, patch the tube and reinstall the tire on the rim.

I did mention it - 2:35 to 2:45.
It's also in the video description.
To each his own for the brakes, I guess. I find it easier (and one less thing to worry about) if I leave it in place.

I have spent too much time looking through the Clymer manual and you clearly showed how. Now I can start on putting on my oversized brake rotor.
