  • When I first saw him on TV I predicted that he would be the scapegoat if they could not find the real bomber quickly! I told my family "They're gonna blame that guy--- you just watch and see!" I just knew it!

  • i loved my uncle... he is missed

  • RIP Richard Jewell

  • Poor guy he never did anything and it was Eric Rudolph that did it after he was caught years later. Too bad he died in 2007 from complications of obesity. I mean he was never the same after he was falsely accused.

  • I'll be back with some very, VERY hard evidence about a guy named Jeffrey Beatty; hungry-for-work "anti-terrorist consultant" who on CNN and NBC predicted an attack and it being done with a dumpster - in an "outside area"... Interestingly enough, YouTube has been blowing out my attempts to post this to all of you! I am photographing this page now because I have tried many times to report this! I'm not a whacko, YouTube and Jeffrey Beatty are....

  • The city of Atlanta is trying to forget that the Olympics ever happened due to Mr. Jewell's incident. Very Sad. A statue of him should be put in Centennial Park without a doubt as well as Michael Johnson.

  • America's Security Officer who protected us all. Richard Jewell was a true American Hero.

  • WWE Superstar Kurt Angle mentioned this guy on Monday Night RAW back in 2000. That was the first time I had heard about this guy.

  • Richard A. Jewell was a good friend. Richard Jewell was the person who got me started playing the trumpet. - Dr. Michael E. Schmidt LTD

  • Sadly Richard Jewell passed away in 2007, a real US hero !

  • When he passed away, the newspapers should have read "HERO DIES." Instead, one paper read, "OLYMPIC PARK SUSPECT DIES." WTF? Suspect? He wasn't a suspect by the time he died. The only reason he was a suspect was because of the huge mistake of law enforcement. To this day if you ask most people, "Who was Richard Jewell?" I think most would say that he was the guy responsible for the Olympic Park bombing. Too bad.

  • @oaklandsportnewscom

    poor guy :(

  • The Centennial Park bombing took place shortly before 9-11 and shortly before the Bush administraition. Had it happened after 9-11 and while Bush was president Richard Jewell would have been tortured to see if he had information about pending attacks. My question: WHEN JEWELL WAS FOUND TO BE INNOCENT WOULD THE EVIDENCE PROVING THAT THE BUSH ADMINISTRAITION HAD TORTURED AN INNOCENT MAN BEEN GIVEN TO THE PUBLIC OR WOULD BUSH HAVE HAD IT COVERED UP?

  • @cbur555 The bombing took place 5 years before 9-11. Jewell was tortured in public by the "fair and balanced" media. The media buried the story after it came out that the wrong man was convicted by the media. What else happened "shortly" before 9-11. Look at 1992 Ruby Ridge/Randy Weaver and 1999 Wen Ho Lee to see how the media and the government had a hand in torturing innocent U.S. citizens. Whose administration was this under?

  • He was a good man. He did save lives. You're a hero Richard.

  • Those false allegations killed him and we all know it.

  • the media, ah the media!

  • I think of this man often.a true hero. i still cant believe what the gov/media did to him.anyone with a half a brain could tell he was innocent..if your honest, truthful, brave, responsible, love your mother,do your job, serv the people,u can really get screwed in the u.s.MAY YOUR HEROIC SOUL R.I.P MR. J.

  • poor guy. i wish he had gone on a diet. american diet is awful. rip jewell.

  • @wowhornby true that, if you only could have seen him before he died though, he looked nothing like this, the media only releases pictures of him when he was big, so that people can make fun of him of course, he got into a pretty sad shape, what happens when you ignore the fact you have diabetes, regardless, he was a great person, THE most friendly and kind person you could ever meet no matter who he was around

  • @southerngrizzly I am sure he was under a ton of stress from everything that happened, that alone can trigger diabetes and heart disease.

  • With our government gone to hell due to king George Bush & his cronies, financial system swindeling the poor and middle class, to a war were never going to win and lost of life. Here is comes Richard Jewel. Damn no wonder, people don't give a damn! look how we treat our Heros!!!!!!

  • He was railroaded by the Clinton Administration, not Bush.

  • thanks for the support guys, this was my uncle, his death was due to severe diabetes and eating wrong by the way, he was a great man

  • Humanity owes this man, to this day, an apology. I live in Atlanta and lived here then and this man was pilloried by the news media. The FBI should have never leaked that crap and the media should have never have tried this man before the facts came out. Truth be told, the APD, FBI, and Olympic Committee wanted a suspect no matter who or what. Otherwise, the dollars would have stopped flowing.

Jewell took the hit. At least Gov Perdue recognized him. The rush to judgment killed this man.

  • You have to wonder whether his death in his 40s was contributed to by the incredible amount of stress to which he was subjected...

  • @vp1981ad born in 62 so he clearly was 35 not in his 40s

  • I was on a site today, looking at the names of famous people who had passed away on this date. I came across the name of Richard Jewell.

I knew that the name was familiar, but struggled to remember why. I thought to myself, "It's something criminal that he did." When I investgated further, I found that it was the man associated with the Atlanta Olympics bombing.

How tragic that my first remembrance wasn't his innocence. This is the injustice of jumping to conclusions and publishing them.

  • Be careful if you are a quiet person who keeps to yourself or have moved back in with your parents to save $ as many do nowadays. This man lived with his mother, making him an immediate suspect, and the word "loner" was used, damning him on the spot. They think they have this "profile" but it's largely fantasy backed up by a very few facts in a few cases.

  • rip

  • I'm from Georgia, and even though I don't live there anymore, Atlanta 1996 was something very special to me and all Georgians. This man tried to save the spirit of the Games and of Atlanta and the entire state, and sir, I applaud you. You did your best and that's all that you could possibly do. I couldn't be more thankful.

  • A HERO on two counts: doing his job well and handling some of the most severe mistreatment from the gov and media in the modern era. RIP

  • This is so much of a sad tale.

This is what happens with a

society that is going....... by what is correct, to the detreminent of th

    people at large.

  • They indeed drove this poor guy to an early grave. they terrorized his mom also.He is one of the few people the fbi gave an apology to.A hero he was, in more ways then one.

  • God Bless you Richard!

~May You Rest in Eternal Peace~

  • God you can see the stress in his face the media and fbi killed this man.

  • not only was he wrongly accussed, there were so many personal attacks on him. Major news organizations and morning talk shows making fat jokes, cop wannabe jokes. completely terrorized this poor guy.

  • Man, do you remember the talk shows making fun of this man? Can you imagine being under such a microscope? All his personal life investigated; who among us could withstand such pressure.

Jewell NEVER got his due despite all the later recognition. He was dragged through the mud by a bigoted nation.

  • you are so right. Not only was this man treated guilty. Chickenshits like Leno, and other pundits; constantly made fat jokes, portrayed him as a pathetic human being, poked fun at his mother, security guard cop wannabe jokes...and the other demeaning comments on tv and radio. Unbelievable!

Its funny how leno will poke fun at Jewell, but he will tell a, Jewish hating, alcoholic Mel Gibson, how great a man he is, and kiss his ass during interviews.

  • The Atlanta Journal Constitution, NBC, Janet Reno...the hell with all of them. Forty-four is a young age to die from diabetes and heart problems...and had it not been for what was done to him, he might still be here today.

  • Richard Jewell didn't deserve what happened to him. I'm glad the media and everyone else that suspected him of the bomb felt like idiots when the FBI finally discovered it was Eric Rudolph. I'm relived RJ was able to witness that before his passing.

  • poor guy. those reporters were assholes. and the FBI. think people. if someone wanted to kill and injure people with a bomb, why would he or she WARN people about the bomb???

  • @eviltman well actually thats wat John Leonard Orr used to do to be become famous. obviously that wasn't the case here though. the media really fucked this guy. what a shame

  • @eviltman The argument at the time was "He's a nobody cop who planted this bomb so he could find it later and make himself look like a hero. But were so smart, were on to his trickery. The FBI told us so!!"

  • Richard Jewell Shaved His Mustache.

  • Police the Police
