@shakesforbreakfast13 wet set. :) I usually start w/ dry hair and spray the individual sections wet w/ a spray bottle. I get a better result that way.
This is my favorite of glamor/do's, and have been waiting for a tutorial like this. By the way this hair-color and style on you makes you look Incredible! Thanks for posting
omg i love those vintage hairstyles! i have afro relaxed hais i dont know if this in going to work for me but im triying anyways for new years eve!!!!
Lisa I love all ur tutorials! Thanks to you I know how to style my hair and I love all ur red hair tone colors! Plz don't stop making hair tutorials! Ur my fav!
i have a question! i have very long very naturally straight hair, i used to not have a problem with my pincurls before, just lately when i brush them out it goes flat annd straight :/ and i cant achieve the shape at the bottom anymore
I am wearing this hair to my friends wedding - she's a hairdresser so I'm really happy that I will have something that even she says 'wow' to. Plus my boyfriend loves Humphrey Bogart, so you can imagine his excitement when he came home and saw my first test - it was a bit more frizzy than I wanted...I forgot the pomade :S But the next time should be amazing! Thank you!
You say your hair was very layered--was your hair cut in a middy? What sort of layers did you have? Because this is my *favorite* style, and I'd love to reproduce what you did here.
My hair is the same length as yours right now (before you cut it) and whenever I do pin curls with this setting I never get curls and My hair just folds together, so you can never see small individual curls. I've tried that technique that you did in one of your videos with brushing a small piece of hair over your finger but it just makes that piece separate from the rest of my hair so it looks a bit awkward. Is there a reason why? Should I get more layers cut?
I love the combo of pin curls and Marcel waves in this one! It almost seems like this could be modified for a Veronica Lake style as well. I'm definitely doing this style, love it! As always, your wonderful! I can't wait for the next one ...
I love this style. What setting style would you recommend for medium/thick very straight hair. Would pin curls be best or another setting? Is that you're favorite setting foam/spray/lotion?
@LisaFreemontStreet I checked it and I saw that you offer at your shop but the problem is that I' m living in Greece... The shiping cost for the pomade will be more than the pomade its self...
@79roxanne hey doll you should look in your "ethnic" hair section of the store they have pomade there and its like in a tin can type thing, im biracial and my sister is white and we both use the pomade from the ethnic section because its just the same and usually cheaper but still fabulous quality. hope this helps.
Amazing.... your just too pretty for words! finally ventured out in my retro look ...my hair is short so i did a pin curl/wave set and wore a scarf put on my ruby woo lipstick and winged eyeliner ...i dont know why i thought people would laugh at me ( i live in a small city) Women complimented me and my husbands friend said i looked stunning and most importantly i felt beautiful!!Thanks for the lessons angel!
you know i have tried to use pomade and it's like bacon greese in my hair. i thought maybe i was putting too much on but even with very little it's the same effect. i have oily hair....=(
i love all of thesehair styles i think there absolutely bautiful but when i try to do my hair usualy it tends to get VERY frizzy do you have any suggestions to help that?
This is a lifesaver- To Have and Have Not is one of my favorite films and I've been trying to copy this look for some time now. Where did you buy the pomade and setting lotion?
Lovely hairstyle that blends with your hair and face beautifully.
Ashley, have you heard of a home made setting lotion for curls made out of egg white lightly mixed with lemon juice??. I don't know about proportions, but I have heard it works very well and nourishes the hair. I thought you may know a little bit more about it..
@shebabe03 AWWW...thanks. :) I don't share my family with the world. haha. But I do have a few pics of the boys on my facebook page...and I think there are a few pictures of my husband in my Viva las Vegas videos.
my hair is SO thick, there's no way i'd have it in me to pincurl 3/4 of my head, lol. but it does look SO lovely. i need to get me some duck bill clips!
hey so glad you did a lauren becall look she had such nice 1940s waves next week i'm cutting and donating my hair so it will be short enough to do this look. i'm excited to test it out!..... also love to hear what your fav LB movie is?
Oh Ashley, I wish I had your patience for hair maintenance and styling!! It's my one major downfall as far as my grooming is concerned, well that and not shaving my legs when it's cold, ha ha!! This hairstyle is gorgeous!! xx
this is the first time i watched one of your movies , i dont know if u did already , but it would be nice if you could show how u part the hair and rowl and pin up ??
Aww the nursery looks great! I hope I can attempt this look in the future, I have a cowlick at the front of my hairline that just refuses to work with me, but we'll give it a shot!! Thank you kindly :D
Hi Ashley, I love this video but do you think it would work using perm rollers all over if you can't master/don't have the patience for pin curls?! :)
@tipsytoni probably...something very similar anyway. I chose perm rods on the top because long hair and pincurls are difficult at the top...tired arms. heh heh.
ahh! so simple! did you curl your hair then pin it, or wet set, or just dry?
