  • Great video! Ty it's funny I am self (Internet/book) taught & I can do other stitches but this one I could never do... Until now. You just opened up a world of possibility for me Ty so very much. No to learn to read patterns lol

  • Thank you very much.. I did try since month to do it but I every time I fail

but with this video lastly it worked!!.. really thank you

  • this was so helpful!

  • You have saved me from pitching my work across the room again. As you can tell, I have little to no patience. Thank you so much, your tutorial was perfectly clear and I picked it up right away!! I'm 13 and I started teaching myself yesterday, but all I had accomplished was several yards of chains. I have completed a small, solid colored potholder, but my grandma was very impressed!! I showed her this video and she said that you have lots of skill!! Keep it up, you rock :)

  • you saved me!!! the book I was using to teach me wasn't overly clear, I feel like they should have had a few more pictures of the steps, but your video cleared it up for me. thank you SO much!!

  • I also got that crochet book from Walmart with the DVD and couldn't figure it out either. This video was very helpful. Now I'm not incredibly frustrated anymore :-)

  • you explination is great and i love the quality of the video

  • Maybe I'm just an idiot, but I bought a "teach yourself" crochet kit from Walmart. The book was a little confusing when it came to "turn your work" it made it seem like you went from holding your work in your right hand to holding it in your left. I tried the DVD that came with it, but that contradicted how to make the stitches and it didn't even focus on her hands or work. Frustrated I turned to YouTube & found your video. Thanks to your video, I finally understand it! Thank you SO much!!

  • Thank you SO much for such a clear demonstration! I got confused and frustrated by watching other videos where the teachers either do it too fast for me to follow or do it way too slow with unnecessary explanations that made me forgot what I was doing. I guess it does take some talent to be a good teacher,

  • thank you so much for an understandable video, i must have watched ten different how to crochet youtube videos, read lots of tutorials and still didnt get it, but now i do! Thank you :)

  • THANK YOU for posting this. I bought a book w/a video, and neither explained this as simply. I can actually understand this. Again, thanks!!!!

  • Fab videos and teaching!!.....Clear, Simple, Straightforward, to the point demonstrations....I can crochet!!! Yipeeeee!!! Thankyou, You're Great!!!! :)

  • Thank you!

  • 10 years ago, I was able to teach myself crochet enough to make a really cute beanie hat. Now my brother wants one like it and I've found myself struggling to remember exactly what I did and how I managed to do it. After scouring the internet and self help books at the craft stores, I was almost ready to admit defeat until I found you video. Oh my gosh!! Thank you so very much!! You are the only one who did it slow enough and clear enough for me to follow. You are an amazing teacher!

  • Thank you... been awhile since I did a single crochet this was excellent

    @RuthieAppleby

  • Very easy to follow!

  • wow mazing thanks! i have the a to z of crocheting and its kinda complcated and you made it so much easier! i was pushing my self too hard sitting in front of a book trying to figure it out thanks!

  • you're a very good teacher.....I think even I can learn in my old age. thx.

  • THANK YOU!!!!! i learned how to crchet a year ago and i forgot everything you have made everything clear :D

  • Thank you for this video!

I was sent a link to this since i have always been confused between the single crochet and double crochet - and this confirms that the stiches i have learnt are one and the same.

It clarifies that the double crochet and the single crochet are one and the same!

The first books i learnt from label your 'double crochet' as a treble stitch - hence my confusion when i start using books that have single & half double stitches in them when i know them as double & half-treble!

  • Is it better to learn to crochet with a bigger hook and thicker yarn? I am using a 5.5mm hook and plain ol' DK yarn. I get the concept but my crochet looks like a mess :(

  • @starletshuffle - You probably just need to practice and even out your tension. You also might want to try a bigger hook with a DK weight yarn.

  • Thank you. Finally someone explains it correctly!

  • Im having such a hard time fitting the needle into the two stitches once I get to the 3rd row. I keep trying to knit loosely but its not working. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

  • @PugsNotHugs - Your stitches are just too tight! :)

  • Thank you :) I knew how to crochet in the round with a single stitch but never off a chain going in rows, this was really helpful!

  • Thank you for demonstrating. You make it looks so easy. Whenever I do it, the first row of stitches always ends up being much tinier than my cast on chain and ends up curling up no matter how much I try to make them bigger. :P

  • wow what i have been trying to figure out for years - you showed me in a few minutes... thank you....

  • Very good. Excellent choice of background color, yarn color, hook color. The contrast makes everything easy to see.

  • does it matter which way you turn it when you reach the end of the row? clockwise or counter clockwise?

  • @oaney Nah - either way works.

  • thankxx very much ^^

  • Thank you for a slow, through demonstration!

  • AWESOME !!! Very Clear To Understand, Thank You.

  • This was so very helpful! Thank you. You are a rare and wonderful teacher.

  • The light bulb has finally turned on! You are really, really good - thank you for posting this for us!

  • Thanks a ton!

I learned so easily and now i sell little single stitch crochet blankets.

  • She's the best!

  • Excellent demonstration and explanation. Love your calm voice!

  • This is really clear and slow enough for us to understand. Thanks a lot!

  • thank you so much. i've been trying to learn with an instructional book, but this was so much easier to understand.

  • nice, clear and slow enough

  • i can already knit crochet embroider sew and i have already made myself a sweater and i am only in elementary

  • im a beginner and soon ill be makin and directing some classes but always need to be patient

  • Thank you so much--this video is very clear! I can't wait to learn more ^__^

  • Wonderful! I have spent the morning trying to learn to crochet from a book and getting frustrated at my lack of understanding how to get beyond the foundation chain. I viewed a few videos that really didn't help. Then I found your video! It is well shot, easy to see what you are doing with the yarn and your commentary is clear and to the point. Thank you so very much!

  • this was a really great beginners video!!!!!!! Thanks:)

  • Absolutely wonderful. I've never crocheted, but have decided I want to learn, how hard can it be right? (Famous last words!!) . I am one of those people who has to watch, not read how things are done, so your video has been so helpful. Now I'm off out to buy cotton and a hook or 10! lol

  • excellent video! all these years i was doing it wrong! thank you so much. very easy to follow!

  • I did it! Thank you! I could never do it with any other tutorial!

PS: You do such a great and slow job that it's almost sensual!

  • This was the best crocheting video that I've ever seen. I was confused about which chain that I should put the hook into, but you clarified it for me. Thank you

  • I have been crocheting a slip stitch all this time and thinking it was a single. Now I know how to do a single properly! Haha... this will make following patterns much easier & with better results. Thanks for your help!

    Cheers,

    River

  • what I love is that I see where I misread all these years the direction. I start single crocheting two stiches away from the hook instead of directly after the loop on the hook.

    Thanks

  • I was so confused before...thanks! =]

  • Thank you, great tutorial! :)

  • That definitely was the most helpful of anything I've looked at yet on this stitch. This one stitch continuously stumped me but now I think I understand. Thanks so much for this, wish you'd been teaching me. I might have actually finished my first project :-D

  • This was so helpful...I bought a book " I taught myself to crochet" but I was confused. I love all of your videos they are clear and precise...I also used your videos to help me learn how to knit. Now Im hooked, lol...so maybe I'll be just as excited about crocheting...THANKS!!!!!

  • These are the best! I spent hours trying to learn this and finally I think I have it. Difficulty with tension, bu thopefully that will come with time.

    GREAT VIDEO GREAT TEACHER

  • this is very clear, thank you

  • Thank you sooo much for making these! I used to crochet and forgot half the sttches and now found out I was doing them wrong! hahah Thanks again:)

  • I love your videos! I managed to skip the second part of the single crochet stitch because I tried reading instructions from a crochet website. It turned out to be a VERY thick potholder!

    You're awesome for making these!

  • Holy Smokes! I didnt realize how easy it all is...and yet infinitly hard...Just like life...Thank you for enlightening me!

  • wow, this is sooo helpful now i can finaly crochet

  • wow you're amazing this is prob the only crocheting vid that makes sence :D

  • Wow finally someone who explains EVERYTHING and doesn't just assume you know half of what she's doing! This is a very clear and easy to understand video. If you can't get it from this video, you never will! Thanks so much.

  • THANK YOU!!!! I tried to teach myself using a book but I was just not understanding how to start the next row. I watched a few other videos but the instructors were all going to fast for me and their fingers were in the way. You video was so clear and easy to understand I finally get how to crochet. Thank you!

  • this demonstration totally helped me..I feel uber smart now..lol. My mom is an excellent crochet'er..but, I didn't want to burden her with me asking how to do this and that..and so...I'm relying on this..lol.

  • Oh thank you...I have been trying to figure out how to pull off the turn for 2 days now.

  • When I was about 10 years old, my grandma and my aunt taught me how to crochet, since I thought of it as boring I did practice but it never stayed in my mind. For this Christmas my brother asked me for a hand made scarf, when I told him I did not remember how to do one anymore, he got really mad. Out of 14 granddaughters my grandma had I was the only one she taught. I felt ashamed that I had ignored that piece of info she had bestowed upon me, now thanks to you I can remember and make her proud.

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you... finally someone that is straight forward and easy to follow... I LOVE IT... I'm going to give it a try right now!!!!

  • I love you. Simply put.

First, you taught me how to graft stitches, and you just saved my butt. I didn't read my (10 page) pattern fully, and have never crocheted a stitch in my life. I think I get it, and I'm moving along!

  • Thank you so much! I tried so many different print methods and all of them left out crucial steps which you clarified. Thanks for a clear and helpful video!

  • Thank you so much! I finally understand that when I get to the second row I need to go under both pieces instead of just going under one. Thank goodness I won't be losing anymore hours of my life to that mistake!

  • I was about to go insane with the I taught myself how to crochet pocket guide since i didn't know that there were supposed ot be kind of a gap inbetween the stiches.

  • super easy to understand-thanks

  • thank you SO much!

I lost two hours of my life last night, trying to learn this from a book (and a kid's book at that). Kept missing one crucial step.

this is great and really clear. :-)

  • Man!! thank u soo much. u made it so easy to understand.

  • Another thank you comment! I'm teaching myself to crochet, and diagrams just weren't making sense to me! Thank you so much!

  • thanks! very helpful :)

  • THANK YOU! My friend tried to teach me, but this makes so much more sense.

  • You are a fantastic teacher. I learned to knit solely from youtube videos, the majority of which are yours. Thanks so much!

  • As a beginner at crochet, this video helped me tremendously. Your explanations were given with awesome clarity and great step-by-step detail. Thank you.

  • OMG! thank u so damn much!!! i was looking for something really easy for a begginer but kept getting hard and advance instrauctions that i didn't know. but u helped a lot and it's really easy to follow. thanks again.

  • THANKS SO MUCH!!! I was trying to learn this from about 3 different books, but didn't get it until I watched your terrific little video. THANKEE!!!

  • omg. thank you. this totally helped. i have a book showing me how to. but it isn't very helpful after the first turn and the instructions can be a bit hard to understand. thank you soooo much!!!

  • OMG THANK U! this helped me SO MUCH! thank you thank you thank you!

  • omg you are awesome. thank you!

  • Whew! I thought I was going to have to sign up for a very expensive class because I just couldn't figure out how to crochet. Now, with these videos, I'm starting on my own. Thank you very much, theknitwitch!

  • thanks, your vedio is the most clear.

  • Thanks so much! I couldn't figure out the written directions and seeing it helped.

  • Thanks so much! ;D

  • Thank you!! Very helpful.

  • This is such a clear video to watch. I love the explain.

    Thank you for sharing.

  • Thank you very much for this video! I was following the example from a book, and it was horrible - it didn't explain not threading the yarn between one loop then two, it just said to pull through two and it looked like a horrible mess.

    This simplifies it! :D

  • I love your videos. I actually feel like I'm learning and actually think I can do it right now!

    >.> All I need to do is get different colors of yarn besides the green and purple intertwine. I faved your website too! Thank you so much!

  • thanks vrrrrrrrrrrry good

  • Thank you!!

  • VERY helpful! Thanks so much!

    x

  • what size hook is that?

  • I think it is a J or a K

  • Yeay! Thank you! The books don't explain very well that you have to 'yarn over' two times for one stitch. I kept making this very dense rope!

    You helped me tremendously!

  • Thank you very much can now understand how to do single crochet.

    Much better than a book.

    Scotkat

  • I just wanted to leave you a quick, *HUGE* Thank you!!! THANK YOU SO VERY, VERY MUCH for taking your time out for showing beginners like me how to Crochet. Its alot easier to have a Teacher sit down with you and have the patience to show you how as you're learning. God Bless You!

    Jessica

  • I'm a beginner and this is my favorite video of making the foundation chain then turning and beginning single crochet. Thank you so much!

  • Thankyou! You Rule! I was soooooo wrong.

  • Thank you for taking the time to demonstrate this. I tried to read a book on this and I would have been doing it incorrectly if I had followed the book. Thanks again!

  • You. are. fabulous. I have been trying for SO long to learn to crochet and just couldn't get it. Fabulous.

Still figuring out the turning thing but I'm sure I'll get it watching this vid. again. THANK YOU!
