@rednoseroxy Hate to tell you but look at all of the numbers. This is the fastest Impala SS GM has ever made stock for stock. I don;t want to hear horsepower numbers... big blocks were technically rated for more but they were also rated the old way minus accessories and emissions components. Not to mention the tiny and peaky power band of a simple cam/ distributor/ carb setup. Correct, daily driven, 4-door family sedan at a test and tune for shits and giggles. These AREN'T meaningful races.

You using a k@n drop in filter or a k@n cold air intake? Also the guy said at the end of video you had exhaust and a down pipe done did you have more exhaust work done then just the down pipe or just the down pipe?
I'm using the K&N cold air kit and there is no other exhaust work done other than the down-pipe. Without the car though the exhaust does sound much meaner even with the resonator and stock mufflers still on it. For shits and giggles I ran straight downpipe and it really hurt the car's performance. I think an exhaust cutout hurts these cars unless they are all the way at the back to bypass just the mufflers.
I wonder if anybody knows if there is any chance that GM will take the G8 GT 6.0L 361hp or the GXP 6.2L 415hp from Pontiac...
and make what would be a wicked Impala SS rear wheel drive sports sedan. The G8 GT 6.0L ran a 13.6 in the quarter bone stock. It just seems like an awesome fix for the remake of the SS. Anybody heard anything? Or should I just stop dreaming?
Stop dreaming... I have the same dream but according to the latest Motortrend the next Impala will ride on the same platform as the new LaCrosse. Even still that won't be out until 2013 or so. The last of the ancient W-Body platform will live on until then.

No nitrous... I think a 100 shot would put this pig in the 12's. These videos were the first time I ever ran at the dragstrip so the times kept getting better as my launches got better. Still, my best time was with a weak 2.0 60'. The car now has 38,000 daily driven miles on it and I plan to see what she can do in the spring. Last time out I got a personal best 60' of 1.9 in the car but could only muster 13.6's with 100 MPH trap speeds.

If it was between my SS and an SHO I would take the SHO all day. Also remember the SHO costs about 12,000 more than an SS. Also the SS is no longer available 09' model year is the end of the road for the V8 W-body.

Good run, just sold my 72 chevelle with a fast burn 385 cratemotor to buy a 08 impala ss my best time in the chevelle was 13.5. I took my impala to the track the first day a got it and ran a 14.549 stock so it nice to see you got your car in the 13's with just a few mods.
Actually most of the vette stuff is NOT compatable with the SS. It takes some modifying to get things to fit like an intake manifold.
And to the guy that said he has an 08 SS standard, you're an idiot! Or you don't have an impala. The closest you'll come to a standard is putting in a shift kit.

Using 255/50/16 BFG G-Force Drag Radials mounted on some Grand Prix wheels left over from my GTP. They're OK but I would rather have the Mickey Thompson Street E.T.s I had on my GTP.

I wanna take the car to the track again soon this video remains the first and only time I've gone. most of the mods you can get easily if you search for vette parts. most are interchangable since this is an LSx series engine. obviously exhaust stuff wont just switch over but most stuff will. like tune, cam, intake mani, etc
I do understand what your saying about fwd being at a handling disadvantage. I completely agree with that however, a completely stock 96 impala takes 6.5 seconds 0-60 and 15.1 seconds 1/4 mile. not 13's. A stock 06+ ss does 5.6 0-60 and 1/4 in 14.2 seconds. Chevy even stated that this is the quickest stock impala to date.
maybe? i haven't really had the chance to test it out. i hope 5.6 will give 13.9! lol. i'm basing my times off of c&d. their the ones that got 5.6 and 14.2.
Despite it not being stock, they still easily run well over a half second quicker quarters than a stock 96.
For dragging, yes the 94-96 is better, but in all honesty this is more comfy, has more features, is faster, more economical, better in the snow ... and so on ...
in my opinion the impala's that replaced the 96's will always be weak untill there ls6 and real wheel drive with 13inch tires all the way around and no tc. not a fwd v6 with tc and little skinny tires. and the fact that the new ones are imported from Canada FAIL

13s look ugly to me, ha. I with they'd use the new G8's platform, make it a bit bigger, use styling and interior cues based off the Malibu, and for the SS, use the LS7.
13s i mean width wise our 96 are 12 inchs wide all the way around. there is a ton of grip and they glide over a lot of the bumps so the ride is nice and smooth from them too

You may consider them weak, but both the previous generation (supercharged SS) and current generation (5.3L V8 SS) are quicker than the B Bodies. The new ones have 43 more horsepower than the B Bodies; definitely not weak! I think we all agree that RWD, for the purposes of his video, is more at an advantage but there's nothing that can be done at this point. I'm saying that the times pulled in his video are really good for FWD. All you can do is hope that the next generation will be RWD...

I know this post is old but for a quick comparison, The 96 Impala SS with 255/50/17 Nitto NT450's pulled a .81g on the skid pad. The 2006 Impala SS pulled the same .81g with its skinny, terrible quality 235/50/18 Goodyear Eagle RS-A's.
If your so concerned with going around corners, I hear the old 1990-93 Berretta GTZ with the FE7 pulls a .92g

I've read your posts and you obviously don't know what you are talking about. I agree that FWD is not as good as RWD for performance. This doesn't mean FWD can't be made just as fast. We already have a new LS3 W-Body in the 12's on stock tires and suspension. I have always loved the B-Body Impala SS... such a sexy car but very heavy and slow stock. LT1 was rated at 260 H.P. and 330 lb ft. in a car that weighs 4,357. 2008 Impala with 303 H.P and 323 lb ft. that weighs 3711 lbs.
Not a thing just the 3" catless DP. Give the car a nice louder growl but nothing too extreme. I thought about putting different mufflers on and deleting the resonator but I can't bring myself to hack the stock exhuast up on it yet.

Yes the SS has the identical drivetrain used in the GXP. I am not doing anything special to turn over the front tires, nothing different than any other FWD car. I just engage the E-brake, put it in 2nd gear (will start in 1st then shift to second) and modulate the throttle. You do of course have to have TSC disengaged. One other thing to take into account is the GP GXP has wide front tires (255/45/18) to the Impala SS's and Monte Carlo SS's 225/50/18 at all four corners.
The Impala SS is a front wheel drive 5.3 litre which is sloppy on anything other than a strait track. The G8 is a 6 litre rear wheel drive and 'might' (big might) even compete with a Lexus IS F or a BMW M3 (!?)
It will blow away the Impala 1/4 mile and 0 - 60. Its $10 000 dollars more though. For that price you can get an Audi RS-4!
If I didn't buy the Impala I would of waited and got a Mercedes C63 AMG. But now I'm stuck with it so let me know if your interested!?
The car has 1 3" downpipe with no catalytic converter. Also the rear O2 sensor is eliminated. The computer has a custom performance tune by Milzy Motorsports. I also have the K&N air intake. I am using 255/50/16 BFG G-Force drag radials at the track. Thanks for looking.

HAHA! FWD equals more weight on the drive wheels which equeals better snow traction. Winters in my parts are pretty nasty so it's a must. 99% of RWD cars get parked in the winter. This Impala is my daily driver all year round'. That's why it's "Stupid" FWD.

i dont know about that, i had a 72 impala, and that would plow through over the bumper with no extra weight in the trunk, i am worried how my 08 is gonna handle this winter, dont really care for fwd.

Using 255/50/16 BFG G-Force Drag Radials mounted on some Grand Prix wheels left over from my GTP. They're OK but I would rather have the Mickey Thompson Street E.T.s I had on my GTP.

Yeah I know. All the guys at work said I couldn't get that 4500 lb. tank into the 13's with the mods I had so this video was created to rub it in their face. I wanna take the car to the track again soon this video remains the first and only time I've gone. I think some spring blocks to keep the ass from dropping could help my 60's and save a tenth or two in the 1/4.

most of the mods you can get easily if you search for vette parts. most are interchangable since this is an LSx series engine. obviously exhaust stuff wont just switch over but most stuff will. like tune, cam, intake mani, etc

I do understand what your saying about fwd being at a handling disadvantage. I completely agree with that however, a completely stock 96 impala takes 6.5 seconds 0-60 and 15.1 seconds 1/4 mile. not 13's. A stock 06+ ss does 5.6 0-60 and 1/4 in 14.2 seconds. Chevy even stated that this is the quickest stock impala to date.

Despite it not being stock, they still easily run well over a half second quicker quarters than a stock 96.
For dragging, yes the 94-96 is better, but in all honesty this is more comfy, has more features, is faster, more economical, better in the snow ... and so on ...

in my opinion the impala's that replaced the 96's will always be weak untill there ls6 and real wheel drive with 13inch tires all the way around and no tc. not a fwd v6 with tc and little skinny tires. and the fact that the new ones are imported from Canada FAIL

Don't get me wrong. I'd love to see them return to RWD. But these have 225s all around, and I don't think that's much, if any wider than on the 96s. Feel free to prove me wrong on that point.
13s look ugly to me, ha. I with they'd use the new G8's platform, make it a bit bigger, use styling and interior cues based off the Malibu, and for the SS, use the LS7.

13s i mean width wise our 96 are 12 inchs wide all the way around. there is a ton of grip and they glide over a lot of the bumps so the ride is nice and smooth from them too

Of course you are also incorrect about the factory tire size. The factory B-Body SS's measured 17" X 8.5. Man, for really being into the RWD Impala and building one as fast as you state yours is, you don't know anything about them.

the only thing they are good for is straight line speed can't take a turn for any thing.
in the rain our 96 cant leave a light with out the back tires spinning but thats what makes a hot rod impala fun!

i'm not disagreeing with you that RWD is more fun and better for sporty driving. I'm more confused at the fact that you wouldn't want Traction Control. If it's annoying, just turn it off. Plus, most people don't purchase this car thinking, "boy, i can't turn corners fast... what a shame" i'm pretty sure the average buyer doesn't think of that. cars are produced and sold based off of current demands. not some people that want to take turns at excessive speeds.

the idea of buying the ss impala, with the most powerful motor and not wanting to take it to a track day or go have a little fun once and a while is what i dont get. if im going to drop 32,000+ on a sports Sedan and just drive it back and forth to work i wasted your time and money. ss means super sport. you dont buy a SS impala to drive 40 mph to work and let it sit in the parking lot all day. you buy the SS to have a street machine that handles curvy roods and is fun to drive and keep nice

Again, I competely AGREE with you on the whole RWD = better performance thing. The main point I'm making is that they are definitely not "weak" you may consider them "lame" just because you can't take turns fast "oh darn!" but I'm saying is that the average buyer doesn't look at it that way. People may be more interested in that kinda thing with a vette. also in regards to the burn out thing, take a look at this other guy's video. granted he probably used the e brake but still...

every fwd burn out looks like the motor blows up end of story
ebrake is the only way to do a burn out in a fwd with out just driving away the way brakes are set up you cant do a normal burn out with fwd

You may consider them weak, but both the previous generation (supercharged SS) and current generation (5.3L V8 SS) are quicker than the B Bodies. The new ones have 43 more horsepower than the B Bodies; definitely not weak! I think we all agree that RWD, for the purposes of his video, is more at an advantage but there's nothing that can be done at this point. I'm saying that the times pulled in his video are really good for FWD. All you can do is hope that the next generation will be RWD...

when i go out to have a little fun and tap the gas coming out of a turn and let the back end slide out a little and have some fun. how are you going to do that in your fwd -_- thats why fwd hot rods will always be lame. cant take them to the track b/c they under steer all day long if you touch the gas. cant have any fun doing doing wheel standing starts leaving the line. no sweet looking burn outs at cruises

I know this post is old but for a quick comparison, The 96 Impala SS with 255/50/17 Nitto NT450's pulled a .81g on the skid pad. The 2006 Impala SS pulled the same .81g with its skinny, terrible quality 235/50/18 Goodyear Eagle RS-A's.
If your so concerned with going around corners, I hear the old 1990-93 Berretta GTZ with the FE7 pulls a .92g

I've read your posts and you obviously don't know what you are talking about. I agree that FWD is not as good as RWD for performance. This doesn't mean FWD can't be made just as fast. We already have a new LS3 W-Body in the 12's on stock tires and suspension. I have always loved the B-Body Impala SS... such a sexy car but very heavy and slow stock. LT1 was rated at 260 H.P. and 330 lb ft. in a car that weighs 4,357. 2008 Impala with 303 H.P and 323 lb ft. that weighs 3711 lbs.

Well G8 is a different car than Impala!
I have three kids G8 too small trunk is smaller as well.
Also you have multitude of countries assembling the G8 Mexico cheap labour cheap quality period.
Stick to my front wheel drive I live where it snows!!
I can tweak my Impala easily and still take five people out for five hour drives. :) In the snow too!

Not a thing just the 3" catless DP. Give the car a nice louder growl but nothing too extreme. I thought about putting different mufflers on and deleting the resonator but I can't bring myself to hack the stock exhuast up on it yet.

How in the hell r u spinning ur wheels like that with a FWD car!?!? WTF! Those times are crazy btw! My brother has a FWD Grand Prix GXP and he didnt think it was possible. Thats the same 5.3L V8 in the SS that is used in the GP right?!?!? Give me some tips dude!

Yes the SS has the identical drivetrain used in the GXP. I am not doing anything special to turn over the front tires, nothing different than any other FWD car. I just engage the E-brake, put it in 2nd gear (will start in 1st then shift to second) and modulate the throttle. You do of course have to have TSC disengaged. One other thing to take into account is the GP GXP has wide front tires (255/45/18) to the Impala SS's and Monte Carlo SS's 225/50/18 at all four corners.

I have a jewel red 08 SS... only 1250 MILES on it. You can buy mine. This car is useless around corners even at low speed.
This would be a great car if it was rear wheel drive.
Its great for touring but not for racing.

The Impala SS is a front wheel drive 5.3 litre which is sloppy on anything other than a strait track. The G8 is a 6 litre rear wheel drive and 'might' (big might) even compete with a Lexus IS F or a BMW M3 (!?)
It will blow away the Impala 1/4 mile and 0 - 60. Its $10 000 dollars more though. For that price you can get an Audi RS-4!
If I didn't buy the Impala I would of waited and got a Mercedes C63 AMG. But now I'm stuck with it so let me know if your interested!?

The car has 1 3" downpipe with no catalytic converter. Also the rear O2 sensor is eliminated. The computer has a custom performance tune by Milzy Motorsports. I also have the K&N air intake. I am using 255/50/16 BFG G-Force drag radials at the track. Thanks for looking.

Mine ran 14.42 at 98.5 mph stock.
BTW Edmunds says it only weighs like 3700 pounds. On a scale mine was 3680 with <1/8 tank.
