Sorry to come here ranting, but you know what pisses me off? The fact that most people love to use FF7 to bash FF13, and hardly ever mention a single other FF game! Whatever happened to the ones before FF7? Or have we "true" fans never played those!? And the ones directly after 7? They were all great! And just a while ago I saw someone comment that FF7 was the best thing of the series since 1997. >:\

i was so excited for this game. it was good but i didnt enjoy it as much as the first. the characters look better in the second but i dont like the overall feel of it and the story as much as i did for the first

The truest statement about the soundtrack! People say it's not good because they're high on Nobuo. Nobuo's work is Godly, but this soundtrack has something to it. It's got a really big variety. It's guaranteed that there's at least one song in the OST you'll fall in love with, cause the variety is incredible.
@TheZaius I loved IX. I enjoy this, but that's cause I'm more open minded. Have you tried watching or playing the demo at least? That will answer your question.
@GeoBlack4 First off, if they release Versus XIII too soon, it may well end up disappointing you like XIII. Secondly, FFXIII-2's production has no effect of Versus XIII. Even if Versus XIII was the only game being worked on in SE, it still would not come any faster. And exactly how the hell was FFXIII-2 worse than XIII? That hardly makes sense, even as a hater of the games.

Only final fantasy's I didn't like were 11 and 14. Took away all the fun of the story with the mmo. Still a gorgeous game though. Would play it more if it were cheaper.
I liked 13 but I felt like the there could be more open areas.. In XIII-2 you can travel to an unlocked world from any location and that location autosaves so when you come back you appear at the same spot.There are a lot of open areas including a really cool city with a lot of population. I definitely recommend this game if you felt like FFXIII could have done more, there is a lot of detail to be appreciated in this game.

I think I'm the only person on the internet that actually really enjoyed XIII, but thought XIII-2 looked like a steaming pile of dogshit. I say looked at, because I refuse to shell out cash on a game I'm so certain I'll wind up hating. Even in reviews praising it, I see nothing I'd enjoy. The story sounds convoluted and nonsensical. Why is Lightning wearing armor? Time travel? Why? Why is Serah dressed like a space hooker? Why are all the characters I actually liked in XIII reduced to cameos?

i got FF13-1 last year and i got to say for my first PS3 RPG game it was,,,,,different in both Good and a Bad way i got to say when i was playing it i was enjoying BUT when i got to the Middle and started playing a different game i got Nothing Pulled me to finish 13 and that is not a Good thing. the only reason i actually compleated 13 was the fact that i had no other games to play since i finished them so i was forced and i only liked a few Characters like Snow and the Little chocobo chick. lol
The problem that currently plagues the series started with FF VII. Seven started the series on the road to becoming less of the charming, fun RPGs that it used to be and more of an interactive movie with very serious, somber characters. That's why I hated FF XIII, because it wasn't at all a fun or charming experience. Hell, if you want the game to depress, then at least make it a cerebral experience that teaches us something. I don't think that Squeenix could have remedied this problem in one g
I really enjoyed ff13. Sure the game was linear and the story was explained in words that I most of the time, did not understand, and I suppose they could've focused on lightning more rather than put all the characters to the same level. However, it was a memorable experience, as the soundtrack was brill, the characters were interesting and likeable, except for vanille and snow, great graphics and beautiful settings, and there was always a sense of passion. I'm glad there is a sequel out.

FInally not some half-assed review by some old ass guy/ignorant fan of the Final Fantasy series. I played VII X and some of IV and Dawn of Souls. While each game had different characters and stories the battle system was the same. It was getting boring. Im glad XIII/-2 gave something new to the battle system. The story was understandable though I dont understand why others couldn't understand it. Since Versus XIII is gonna take forever to release I'm gonna buy both XII and VIII.
Im not much of a fan of the ff-13/ff-13-2 story But, I gotta say the battle system is one of the best one I've ever experienced in the ff series since ff 10. Now it really requires strategy, unlike the others where you need the best weap and high level to kill a hard boss easily. Plus, the crystarium system allows you to develop a customizable and magical/melee/buffer oriented char. AND monsters finally drop money great improvement
i got to the last boss you have to fight him 5 different times first his monster then him then him again then he revives so him again then him as a monster again with 2 other monsters kill the 2 first then you do damage on him then 1 monster comes back kill him then the other one comes then you go back to killing the main one but guess what then he has an attack that can kill you instantly oh and you cant go back to buy potions........so im done cant do it
I fell in love with the demo but why did they have to add the stupid action sequence? Every game I play now has it. It was cool the first time but now I feel like I'm playing Kingdom Hearts. =/ I know I have bad eyes but they weren't so bad that I couldn't see the action while playing.

The only reason why people say FF13 SUCKS because, we are comparing it to the older FFs which was very nostalgic to some of us. But time moves on, new features come in to play, games have to change too ! I bet, if FF13 swap places with FF1,2,3,4,5,6,7 in time of release. @Hoolopee It depends on how you view rpgs like final fantasy...I mean the old ff games can be tough as hell but often have a good storyline...of course if you're into more action based games then the old final fantasies are not for as most of them don't have real time combat...most people play the final fantasy games for the story and for the sense of being in an adventure
Another game magazine style of review where all the negatives only take away 1 point from the review... really, I could have gotten the same unreliable boosted score from IGN. When will people start reviewing games the way papers are graded in university? Because this game doesn't sound or look like an "A" grade game to me.
You know I find it amusing how people can hate the newest final fantasy game yet the previous one that they use to hate they now like for some unknown reason it happens with almost every final fantasy game to come out.
I've heard that there are instances where you don't quite know where to go to proceed with the story. I only heard this from one review though. Has anyone else heard this or come across it while playing. Yes, I know it's not out until the 31st, but it's been out in Japan for about a month. I only ask because I hate that so much. If you want to do a bunch of side stuff, fine, but proceeding with the story, or at least having a general idea of where to go, should be a given in any rpg.

Awesome review can't wait two things to add yeah the QTEs or live action are nice and I hope there's a nice chunk of cg though I'll be playing on a sd tv :-) I still love cg. One thing I haven't seen in any review that is a HUGE improvement from ffxiii to me is you get Gil from battles
@bernard42002 And I find it annoying that FF fan boys for some reason think a name deserves some sort of special treatment or seperates it from other RPGs. Final Fantasy was not the original. Dragon Warrior and Ultima both pre-date FF1. FFVIII was also absolutely awful. Don't get me wrong, I love the series but to say it somehow deserves to be held above the Xeno's, Star Oceans, Suikodens, Chrono Trigger/Cross, etc. is ridiculous.
If you people listen right, 35 hours for the MAIN STORY. He never added how much time all the side quests would add on. Stop pissing and moaning. I could complete the main quest on Oblivion and Skyrim in a matter of about 10 hours so all your talk of how big it is means nothing as he said the main story.
@redredredguy Every rpg doesn't have to be 100 hours long, games like FInal Fantasy X, KH II and FF VII all were around 50 hours long and they are all considered great rpgs.

I could never stand Japanese video game art style, which is sick as fuck and weird as shit, in a bad way, for me.. So if I would ever get this I would be tempted to speed-run it.. In WAY less than 35 h...
i smell "adoption". Enchanted arms brought the "save anywhere" and recruiting "monsters/characters" to aid you in battle. -_- I like this idea. just saying.
@bigsteamfan I'd actually like to see a game with an absolutely phenomenol story that takes you about 100 hours to finish. Don't know if it already exists, but it sure has to surpass my opinion of MGS 4: Guns of the Patriots. That's a really hard thing to do, since I'd give MGS 4 a 15/5. Sigh, why can't any game live up to that for me? WHY?!
@MyComicStyle You can't find such a game because that game would be perfect, and as you're well aware, perfection does not exist on this world ! So we're stuck playing half-arsed games that NEVER fully fulfill our gaming needs. What you CAN do is find the closest game to your liking. 100 Hours = RPG. You know the genre, now choose the story type you would like, the camera perspective, the setting, and search a game with those characteristics to suit SOME of your needs...

If your not getting this game because it has the same "battle system" like the first one. That mean you FUCKING SUCKED! FF XIII and FF XIII-2 are Amazing. And if the battle system ruins your experience it's because you suck and never knew how to play.
seriously 10 was the last good FF game, i had SOME fun with 12, but everything ESPECIALLY the mmos are just not up to par for me, maybe it's me, i held the series up so high for so many years perhaps i set myself up for disappointment!
It wasn't the linearity that turned me off but that FFXIII did not have that magic other games had. Most great FF games werent just about saving the world but put you in really interesting scenarios where you got to know each protagonist and antagonist.. I am really glad FFXIII-2 has a central antagonist. Te battle system in FFXIII felt watered down. It seems this game has more depth. Good.
Yeah the older games had stories that were paced a lot better. FFX had the best story structure of any game i've ever played. Every character was well thought out and thoroughly introduced before the REAL journey began. It's too bad the gameplay in that one was a bit lackluster.
I'm really hating the battle system on this...I wish they had gone with the old turn based battle system or with crisis core battle system...before you hate on me and saying if I expected them to change it from the first one I didn't play the first one lol
@HEDER11 how about accepting the change that was made in the game? And it IS turn based just very similar to X-2, Persona 4 and XIII. There is just more movement.

Final Fantasy 9 was the last game in the series that I really enjoyed. I didn't hate ten but I didn't like it either, 11 and 12 I didn't even bother with I watched the cutscenes and just didn't feel the urge to play them....I played 13 and kind of had the same opinion on it as I had with 10. But judging by the trailers for 13-2 I think this one may actually pretty good...I don't want to just assume that though.
@Ventus1989 FF11 can only be liked by hardcore MMORPG fans so imo FF11 shouldn't apply to FF fans of the main titles for the consoles and well FF12 battle system wise was basically a dumb down version of FF11 :p

I think most of us knew this game wasn't going to be the turning point for the FF series.
The thing about the FF series that upsets me the most is the departure of Hironobu Sakaguchi (the creator of Final Fantasy)from Square. The last FF game he worked on was FFX, and I think a majority of us would agree that the quality of the series began to go downhill after that installment. It would seem that one man made all the difference..
If the music really is comparable to 9, then I'm definatly going to give it a listen. A faster battle system is very nice, as eventually it seemed dull in XIII until you could juggle 6 attack combos. For some reason I'm hoping it feels like the FFX battle system: Structured and ordered, but still fast paced and on-your-toes.

But Final Fantasy just sucks now. Stupid story boring ass characters no summons at all in 13-2.... A FF game with no summons lmao all this company do is put out trashy ass lame games nowadays. They have been nothing but a major disapointment compared to their PS2 days. You don't even play as lighting as the main character. lol

FInally not some half-assed review by some old ass guy/ignorant fan of the Final Fantasy series. I played VII X and some of IV and Dawn of Souls. While each game had different characters and stories the battle system was the same. It was getting boring. Im glad XIII/-2 gave something new to the battle system. The story was understandable though I dont understand why others couldn't understand it. Since Versus XIII is gonna take forever to release I'm gonna buy both XII and VIII.

Im not much of a fan of the ff-13/ff-13-2 story But, I gotta say the battle system is one of the best one I've ever experienced in the ff series since ff 10. Now it really requires strategy, unlike the others where you need the best weap and high level to kill a hard boss easily. Plus, the crystarium system allows you to develop a customizable and magical/melee/buffer oriented char. AND monsters finally drop money great improvement

i got to the last boss you have to fight him 5 different times first his monster then him then him again then he revives so him again then him as a monster again with 2 other monsters kill the 2 first then you do damage on him then 1 monster comes back kill him then the other one comes then you go back to killing the main one but guess what then he has an attack that can kill you instantly oh and you cant go back to buy potions........so im done cant do it

I fell in love with the demo but why did they have to add the stupid action sequence? Every game I play now has it. It was cool the first time but now I feel like I'm playing Kingdom Hearts. =/ I know I have bad eyes but they weren't so bad that I couldn't see the action while playing.

The only reason why people say FF13 SUCKS because, we are comparing it to the older FFs which was very nostalgic to some of us. But time moves on, new features come in to play, games have to change too ! I bet, if FF13 swap places with FF1,2,3,4,5,6,7 in time of release. @Hoolopee It depends on how you view rpgs like final fantasy...I mean the old ff games can be tough as hell but often have a good storyline...of course if you're into more action based games then the old final fantasies are not for as most of them don't have real time combat...most people play the final fantasy games for the story and for the sense of being in an adventure

I've heard that there are instances where you don't quite know where to go to proceed with the story. I only heard this from one review though. Has anyone else heard this or come across it while playing. Yes, I know it's not out until the 31st, but it's been out in Japan for about a month. I only ask because I hate that so much. If you want to do a bunch of side stuff, fine, but proceeding with the story, or at least having a general idea of where to go, should be a given in any rpg.

@bernard42002 And I find it annoying that FF fan boys for some reason think a name deserves some sort of special treatment or seperates it from other RPGs. Final Fantasy was not the original. Dragon Warrior and Ultima both pre-date FF1. FFVIII was also absolutely awful. Don't get me wrong, I love the series but to say it somehow deserves to be held above the Xeno's, Star Oceans, Suikodens, Chrono Trigger/Cross, etc. is ridiculous.

If you people listen right, 35 hours for the MAIN STORY. He never added how much time all the side quests would add on. Stop pissing and moaning. I could complete the main quest on Oblivion and Skyrim in a matter of about 10 hours so all your talk of how big it is means nothing as he said the main story.

Don't know if it already exists, but it sure has to surpass my opinion of MGS 4: Guns of the Patriots. That's a really hard thing to do, since I'd give MGS 4 a 15/5. So we're stuck playing half-arsed games that NEVER fully fulfill our gaming needs. What you CAN do is find the closest game to your liking. 100 Hours = RPG. You know the genre, now choose the story type you would like, the camera perspective, the setting, and search a game with those characteristics to suit SOME of your needs...

It wasn't the linearity that turned me off but that FFXIII did not have that magic other games had. Most great FF games werent just about saving the world but put you in really interesting scenarios where you got to know each protagonist and antagonist.. I am really glad FFXIII-2 has a central antagonist. Te battle system in FFXIII felt watered down. It seems this game has more depth. Good.

Final Fantasy 9 was the last game in the series that I really enjoyed. I didn't hate ten but I didn't like it either, 11 and 12 I didn't even bother with I watched the cutscenes and just didn't feel the urge to play them....I played 13 and kind of had the same opinion on it as I had with 10. But judging by the trailers for 13-2 I think this one may actually pretty good...I don't want to just assume that though.

i started my final fantasy playing at X and i liked it, moved on to XII and XIII liked them both, now that ive seen this i want to play it badly, and i have gone back and picked up some of the ones like FF VII and I &2, they are all great in my opinion, and im liking FF VII alot! sure XIII was a bit linear but alot more content could have been put in if it was only for ps3, i mean, maybe all of this was meant for the first game but like they said they had to cut alot of content. cant wait 2 play

I think most of us knew this game wasn't going to be the turning point for the FF series.
The thing about the FF series that upsets me the most is the departure of Hironobu Sakaguchi (the creator of Final Fantasy)from Square. The last FF game he worked on was FFX, and I think a majority of us would agree that the quality of the series began to go downhill after that installment. It would seem that one man made all the difference..

If the music really is comparable to 9, then I'm definatly going to give it a listen. A faster battle system is very nice, as eventually it seemed dull in XIII until you could juggle 6 attack combos. For some reason I'm hoping it feels like the FFX battle system: Structured and ordered, but still fast paced and on-your-toes.
