I'm from Greece and I'd like to visit Norway some day or to live there for some months or years, to study. It's an amazing country, but do you really pay many taxes? It will be difficult for me in the beginning, because we in Greece have a completely different culture than yours, so if anyone can help me and give me some more information I would be very happy :) (Sorry for my english if I have made any mistake)
Norway is very much like Canada. Same kind of social economy. Lots of taxes but medical care and social benefits very similar. Even the weather is the same.
I would pay a huge amount in taxes to get these kinds of benefits here in America. But too many people are VERY Conservative and would call it a socialist takeover of the government!! I gotta get to Norway! Ja, Vi elsker dette landet!!
@JoyousinJesus then I would advise you to pack some hiking gear and go out in the ''Nordmarka'' (right north from Oslo) for a one day travel.... there are both pleanty of well marked paths to choose from and if you want, there are possibilitys to go ''offroad'' but would then recommend to set of 2-3 days (and bring an axe to make a simple Bivuakk or just) camp under the stars!
12 months matrernity leave with regular pay, and the father being required to stay home for at least one month. Wish we had that in the US, But too many people are conservative capitalists.
@ihaveairlockers every country has also a bad side, things that don't work as they should. I lived some time in Norway and I saw that there are actaully very similar problems to the ones i'm used to (regional and national politics, crime, traffic accidents and whatever. Why pointing out the negativ things?
@ihaveairlockers well, every country has its ugly underside... as far as I can tell from hearsay and statistics (which is admittedly not much), the underside of Norway is much nicer than that of America.
Heaven on Earth. Maybe in my next life, I will be born in Norway.

There must be a reason the UN votes Norway and Australia as the best countries...
It's just a pity that the tourists don't learn about the underside of norway and all the things that are wrong.
