V6 POWER BABY!!! This is AWESOME! I think it is so cool how ppl are making the v6 more powerful and doing mods to make it beat a GT! :) I have a 2005 Red V6, It is stock except the K&N air filter and duals. I really wanted to get a chip and cold air intake. But now that I watched this video, I want to make mine sound like that :) how much were the cams? and the headers?
hey cabuzzi first off nice work on the v8 swap wouldnt mind seeing more videos on that, but i got a question for you where did you buy those mac headers and what were the specs for your cams? thanx
FYI, there are plenty of V6's out there running better times than stock GT500s. I never really addressed my traction problems, plus the air up here in Colorado Springs (6400ft) is not conducive to good track times. I've got a buddy that broke 10s with a single turbo and a built 4.0L V6. There's much more to speed than just displacement.
That being said, I'm a huge V8 fan. The car now has 5.4L 3v from an F150 in it. It was a hell of a job, but the car is great.
that is one monsterous sounding v6 great job, plan on useing some supersix parts on my 95 v6, i have heard best bang for you buck, great work car sounds amazing.
Just so everyone knows, the amount I spent on blower, heads and cams is less than the additional cost of the GT. I've done other things to the car of course, but they're things I would've done to the GT as well (wheels, stereo, etc...).
In the end, a GT dynos 260 to the rear wheels, mine dyno'd 440 to the rear wheels.
just so you guys know, the supersixmotorsports stage 3 heads and cams are about 2200 but if you sent your old heads and cams bcak to them they will buy them for about $300-350 so you're really only paying 1900 for a part that gives you like 25+ max hp and around 80hp in the lower end of your rpm range

and just think all that money you just dumped into that explorer engine, and it still is not a v8. if you did all that to 4.6 3v,you would be making twice the hp-trq. but you little boys keep having your fun,and us v8 guys will keep kicking your asses, you must be kind of sore by now.............HUH?
Your fucking retarded. The price of the V6 and the procharger is LESS than your V8, but the funny thing is, us "little boys" are the ones kicking ass. This car is much stronger than your V8.
If I did all this to my V6 Mustang, it would kick the rims right off your GT. Just because it came off the explorer doesnt mean its a bad engine. Its a strong engine with lots of potential. you just need the right know-how to unlock that potential.
dude that is sick. i am so glad it sounds that good because i am ordering the same heads and cams next month. i'm also getting an sts turbo instead of the procharger but it should put out about the same amount of power. i was just wondering if you have anything else besides the heads cams supercharger and the headers back. i have a long list of bolt on parts including long tubes and and aluminum drive shaft and new clutch and release bearing.
trade that thing in for a v8!!! if you were gonna sink that much money into the motor, imagine how much more power you would have after those mods on an 8.
do the heads and cams make a big difference in sound i have jba shorty headers and jba dual exhaust i want a little more deeper aggressive tone ehat should i do
trilpen, you are a fucking tard. I wonder how much you make. I bet you still live with your parents. This is my FIRST V6, and I've done well with it. I have a 5.4L I'm about to swap in... FROM A FORD F150! I have more knowledge about cars in my left hand than you have in your entire body.
Do a google search for "4.0L to 5.4L" and tell me what you get... you twit.
When I swapped the heads and cams, I also switched to long tube headers. I had to take it to the exhaust shop to get the old exhaust cut shorter and reflanged.
It's very hard to make the 4.0 sound "good". The best you can do is go with a set of Corsa axlebacks. They sound wonderful, but are EXPENSIVE.
Super Six Motorsports. You can check out the prices on their site... just realize there is more to the swap. You will be replacing a lot of bolts and gaskets, which drive the price up. Plus, only an experienced mechanic should do the work. It took me three days to do the swap, and I've been working on cars for a long time.
I am selling my complete 4.0. I should have it out of the car soon. Not sure on the price yet, but it won't be much more than it would cost to buy all the parts and have the heads/cams professionally installed... plus you'd get the rest of the engine. You can keep your current as a spare.
I would buy yout engine, but all i want to do right now is headers, vortech supercharger, and true duals. get 300 hp and go roadracing. Later, after i get through post-sec schooling and find a job I was going to put a 302 or 342 crate engine in my car.
yo can u send me the Cam brand and info where u got it I am uilding a 4.0 2007 mustang and I have a little done to it look and sounds great and cannot find cams thnx JMAN!
how did you brake in the cam? are you useing a colder plug? have you tryed 98/100 octane? did you change the injectors? mass air?. tame the timeing down below 36?
Since installing the supercharger, I've upped the boost from 9psi to 14psi, which I'm currently running now. I use premium at the pump and watch my A/F mix with dual AEM wideband A/F gauges to ensure I don't go lean at any point. Timing is currently set to 23* at WOT, of course, it goes a lot higher when the car is in closed-loop operation.
**CAUTION** Unless you're running race gas, 23* is probably not safe for those living at a lower altitude than me. I can run much more timing due to living at 6400ft
Not sure what you mean, unless you're talking octane. Also, I run 14psi, not 23 psi. The stock block is good to around 450 RWHP, so I won't be pushing it anymore. A stock GT puts down about 260 RWHP.
yes i was talking octane. and i thought i read a comment with you saying that you can turn it up to 23 psi bc of your altitiude. my gt was stock at once and dyno it put down 287. as for the v6 over v8, is each his own. and how many horses are you putting out?
23* is the highest "commanded" timing. If you understand how the Spanish Oaks processor works, you'll know commanded timing is rarely seen, based on IATs, AFR, engine coolant temp, etc...
If I were at sea level, I would have to drop 4* from the commanded timing.

Talk with Tom @ Super Six Motorsports. The most aggressive cams require the stage 3 heads, though. They won't run in stock heads with stock springs.

The SSM stuff is actually BETTER (in my opinion) fort the 3.8L stuff. The 4.0L is a difficult engine to work around.
For example, Tom can make you a 4.3L out of a 3.8L. Doing the same with a 4.0L is nearly impossible.

You can get the cams from Super Six Motorsports. They're regrinds of stock cams. To run the cams, you have to get Stage 3 heads as well.
I had problems because the cams were 1.5 degrees off on one side. There are no keys in the cams, so it's tough to get it 100%.
