  • Great videos. I was given the same TV with power problem. I replaced the capacitors per your video. The set came on but had a rapid flashing, almost like a strobe light. You could see the picture but with flashing lights. After 5 minutes the set went out. I have extra capacitors but any suggestions as to the cause of the flashing lights.. thanks

  • @git01055 I don't have any additional tips other than what I showed.

  • I've repaired a Polaroid power supply. I had to replace 9 caps, none of which showed any visible signs of failure. Thank goodness for my ESR meter.

  • @hoopfan71 BTW, you can get an ESR Micro V4 meter for around $80. It checks capacitance and ESR. The Blue ESR meter can be had for around $100.

  • @hoopfan71 I never tried one but it sounds like it could be a good choice. Thanks for the info.

  • Hi, I have the very same tv, the problem im having is that it's overheating thus causing the picture to ripple, is this possible to repair?

  • @Lawdamercy54 I don't know.

  • I got a Polaroid flm3732 plasma tv that turns on there is sound but the picture is all blue and staticky like a pixel storm or something no matter what input I use would some new caps fix this?

  • I have this very tv. How much will it cost to fix if I ship you the power supply?

  • @toecuttersix It depends on what's wrong with it. It cold go as high as 90 bucks but you might find one already working online for less. Are you sure your power supply is the problem on your TV?

  • @cachapla007

Your question is to broad and unspecific. Over current protection is a safety function of many ICs which is activated when a circuit draws more current than it should.

  • Nice video but my tv i don't understand everytime I try turning it on the Red light starts blinking and turns off again after like 25 tries it will turn on... Can anyone tell me what's wrong or what I should check.?

    Thanks.

  • @BalistikYaBoy93 I wold guess it's a bad capacitor or capacitors on the power supply board.

  • I had this issue with a polaroid LCD 2000 TV but I fixed it by using an XBOX 360 power supply brick to run the TV. works great. first tried fixing, then a new brick, no go.

  • I have a polaroid FLM 2601. Almost in Dumpster, but can't bring myself to do it. Saw video and like it. Couple questions. How do I test the capacitors. Where can I get replacements-Radio Shack. Can I send supply to you to fix, if so how much? Thanks. Mike.

  • @sportnabout

If you send me the power supply for this TV I could repair it for 85.00 plus shipping. I have a web site at TV REPAIR INFO . COM where you can find contact info.

  • @9kuuby9 I almost forgot to ask why your thinking about removing the MOSFETS if you haven't found a bad one yet.

  • well the heatsinks of the MOSFETS are covering some components wich means i can't desolder the components and test them, to do that i have to desolder the MOSFET and the heatsinks.

  • @9kuuby9 This is a stand alone power supply which does not have the inverter board on it. Removing Mosfets can be difficult. You should youtube a few videos on desoldering.

  • was this TV completely dead or did it had the problem that suddenly turns off and has to be unpluged and pluged back again to work (my problem with polaroid 2626 tlmb)

  • @chrisrc83 I'm not sure if your last question was meant for me but if it was yes the TV came in dead.

  • is it possible to replace a lcd tv power supply whit another one , but not the same?

  • @9kuuby9 Generally speaking no but when you mention replacing your power supply with one that isn't the same how is it different? If all the voltages and current outputs are the same and all the terminal connectors are the same it should work, but sometimes a power supply that looks similar may be different in some way.

  • thank u it was that answer i was looking for.

my last question is if the tv doesn't turn on is it a power supply problem?

  • If they is no power than most likely, check the capicators in the Power Supply unit

  • okay i had a look on them but they looked fine,

but i will test them whit a multi meter.

  • @9kuuby9

There can be several reasons an LCD TV doesn't come on. Bad capacitors in the power supply are probably the most common reason. One other common reason for a TVs not coming on are shorted components on the inverter board.

  • thank u for your assist.

  • I bought a power supply brand new and put it in my FLM-2601 and the voltage regulator fried after 2 hours of being on. What might have caused this?

  • @mscott121279 Sorry to hear of your misfortune. It could be that the power supply had a defective part, but more likely it could be a problem in the circuit the power supply is driving. Sometimes it's important to look at a schematic to see what circuit is involved with the regulator. Were their any symptoms before the TV completely died?

  • You know, looking at the power supply you had in the video, I noticed my power supply didn't have any thermal material or the clips attached to the voltage regulators. They only had thermal paste on them. It must have gotten too hot and fried this way.

  • @mscott121279

It sound as though someone else worked on it and failed to reinstall the clips and insulating material between the transistors and heat sinks.

  • can anyone help me i have a flat screen 32 inch polaroid tv, i have one capacitor that is bad on the capacitor it says "10uf450v and it also says HEC" i can't not find this capacitor anywhere i have not a clue about anything capacitors so can someone plz tell me where i can find the same one? or find one that i can replace it with? thanks b4 hand to who ever replys

  • All you need is a 10 microfarad capacitor at 450 volts. Preferably a high temperature capacitor. This should not be hard to find. I suggest you start out calling digikey.

You can probably find a local TV shop willing to sell you this capacitor, but how do you know this is the only bad one? You can't judge that all the other capacitors are good just by looking at them.

  • I have a Polaroid LCD and I suspect that the caps are bad but its hard to tell because they are not really noticeable. Can you tell me, can a capacitor be bad and only have a slight to almost none visible bump or damage? Please let me know, thanks.

  • Yes a capacitor can be bad and not show any visible indication anything is wrong with it. This is why its worthwhile to buy a good in circuit capacitor checker. Mine cost me around 220 bucks.

  • My TV on button won't work, it clicks on and immediately clicks off again even when I hold the button down, any suggestions?

  • TVs contain many circuits which can cause them to malfunction, but I generally start with the power supply.

  • This should not hurt the capacitors, but there is a chance you could damage some of your switching transistors if your capacitors are not properly soldered in place.

I'm curious as to why you would only solder on of the leads on your capacitors?

    Dave

  • thats great - thanks Dave, appreciate the help.

  • hi dave - i am having the same problem with my flm 2601, but it looks like part L909 on the power board has exploded (there is a think white residue everywhere). Do you know what this part is so i can replace it?

  • I don't have a schematic on the power supply your working on, but most of the time when the location letter starts with an L its probably an inductor which is generally nothing more than a small coil. If the coil is burnt I would suspect there are other problems as well.

Did you check your transistors, capacitors and diodes for shorts?

  • where are you located i have a Polaroid tv problem!

  • Right here in Grants Pass Oregon

  • well crap i live in Ohio .....

  • if i replaced two caps, but only soldered the + side down, and bent the - side after putting it through the whole, would that cause them not to work properly ?

  • Perhaps you can state your question a little differently. I didn't quite understand what you were asking.

    Dave

  • Two capacitors bust open in my Polaroid TV. I replaced them with two same uf rating and higher voltage about 8 months ago. Recently the issues with the TV have come back ( buzzing noise and picture going out.) I open the TV back up at the replaced caps look fine. My question is, I only soldered one lead coming off each cap. The other lead i just put through the circuit board and bent so it would stay in place. Because I did not solder 1 lead would this cause the cap not to work ?
