  • @FMaz Aaaah. Maybe not... Because you selected "Install Ubenu" Meaning it has to have a drive to look for. Im having the same problem with my windows xp. I used chkdsk /r. Recovered every file accept winload.exe. But anyways back to the point. It has to have a drive to look for and write on because its not going to install into a space that doesnt exist. So, Try buying a new hard drive. If you have a direct TV box with DVR. Theres a 160gigabyte Hard drive in there.

    - Hope this also helped xD

  • @chaos1sonic Hehe, actually this video is quite old, I've a whole new computer ;)

  • Aah. This problem is easy to find. This could possibly be a bad hard drive (HDD).

Or it could be that you got a virus that killed your %SYSTEMDRIVE%. Anyways, If something deleted your %systemdrive% then there are 2 ways to fix it!

1: Find your current operating system install disk

2: Find and burn a disk with tools to recover Non allocated (Deleted) Files.

If you run windows. Find the recovery console disk and go into the recovery console and type Chkdsk /r.

    -Hope this helped!

  • @chaos1sonic At this state no data should be copied on the hard drive. I didn't even choose what hard drive to use, and this was the Ubuntu boot disk ( That should work even with no harddrive plugged in).

  • @FMaz, if smbd will have this issue, this is how i've solved it. pressed "e" key, when a keyboard (with human) image appears -> pressed F6 -> hit the "nomodeset" option -> hit Esc, then continued with installing. helped with Ubuntu 11.10, on HP Pavilion G6

  • @TheDaurchik I tried that on My HP Pavilion G7 and it didnt work :(

  • @oldmanstatic sry, i've wrote it too soon.. it helped me for continuing installing, but after installation finished, again i wasn't able to boot into Ubuntu. it helped only for installation process, problem with booting i haven't solved.

  • did you fix this problem ? I have the same exact thing happening to me

  • I have the same problem right now, does anyone have a solution, and also I have tried pressing all of the F keys but nothing happens, I just have a blank screen and a flashing cursor in the top left hand corner

  • i had the same problem. just boot into it in safe graphics mode, then install drivers. TADA

  • I did try the safe mode, and it's exactly the same trouble.

  • i have this exact same problem

  • I have got exactly the same problem. What I did was that I installed Ubuntu in the Safe Graphics Mode (after pressing F4 once the language was selected). Ubuntu 9.10 got installed, but the Graphics were really bad, my screen was flickering :(

I guess I will have to wait for Ubuntu 10.04 now :(

  • Try to select "Safe Mode" from F4
