Has anybody considered why normal pistols have rifled barrels 4 inches long standard for a semiauto and the better quality ones are very carefully made and cause a min of a few hundred dollars. I do not see this having any much less being packed in $200+ barrels. So what is the point of a gun that can't hit anything?

Personally I think this system isn't ready for portable handheld use like a pistol. It definitely hasa place in the automatic gun emplacements we've seen from them.

It's actually fairly easy to shield electronics from EMPs, especially if it's something small like a handgun. EMPs on the other hand are VERY difficult to generate in a mobile fashion strong enough to disable electronics.
Actually your statement about sheilding EMP is incorrect, it is difficult especially on someting as small as a mobile device such as radios and laptops, requiring a ground lead to be effective. I worked on projects with coatings to ward off the effects, bottom line is that there is an open barrel that has an ignition source to the projectile, will not be able to be shielded.

@Bronzecop Fucks sake, you really want to talk about nuclear fusion don't you? Alright dumbass. Nuclear fusion doesn't have infinite energy. That's impossible. However it is one of the most efficient methods of turning mass into energy. The only more efficient method is using antimatter, or possibly magnetic monopoles. As for when the first nuclear fusion facility will be completed, no one knows the answer to that. We haven't reached "break-even" yet

@EnigmaHood To attain fusion, hydrogen isotopes have to be subjected to intense heat and/or pressure. High powered lasers can do this, but currently we are putting more energy into those lasers than we are getting out of the fusion reaction, so it's not "break-even". This will change when laser technology improves, and becomes more efficient. The other method involves using muons to catalyze fusion at room temperature. But that method also hasn't reached "break-even".

Everybody seems to have these comments about if the electronics will fail, be tampered with in some way or not but not one person seems to have noticed the one major flaw I see. Has anybody considered why normal pistols have rifled barrels 4 inches long standard for a semiauto and the better quality ones are very carefully made and cause a min of a few hundred dollars. I do not see this having any much less being packed in $200+ barrels. So what is the point of a gun that can't hit anything?

can the weapon cease to fire if any of the wiring comes loose?
Personally I think this system isn't ready for portable handheld use like a pistol. It definitely hasa place in the automatic gun emplacements we've seen from them.

If rounds are loaded through the barrel then you will always have the barrel of a loaded gun point at some part of your body...

and the 454 would still be better for the simple fact that one heavy hunk of lead will penitrate farther and open up larger than 3 smaller bullets of equal weight. for example what does more damage, A .22 rimfire or 3 .177 caliber pellet rifle bullets all hitting the same thing?duh the .22! the simple fact is the metal storm is a impressive concept but really could use more time in r&d before they figure out how to perfect it. like how its mentioned above that the pistol really has no rifleing

It's actually fairly easy to shield electronics from EMPs, especially if it's something small like a handgun. EMPs on the other hand are VERY difficult to generate in a mobile fashion strong enough to disable electronics.

Actually your statement about sheilding EMP is incorrect, it is difficult especially on someting as small as a mobile device such as radios and laptops, requiring a ground lead to be effective. I worked on projects with coatings to ward off the effects, bottom line is that there is an open barrel that has an ignition source to the projectile, will not be able to be shielded.

This "pulse" will attract to all positively charged objects, such as PC monitors. This causes a breach in current flow, and shuts off the power of the device for a short period of time. In a classroom experiment, you could probably get enough of a wave to shut off... nothing.

There is a problem with this system, and that is reloading it. If the enemy force is not clustered together, it will just be a waste of ammo. Another problem would be, supplying the ammo for the metal storm guns. If you have a gun that fires 1000 rounds per second, you need a supply train to supply 1000 rounds per second.

the idea is the 3 shots before recoil. police forces can be, and most times are trained to 'two shot' with their side-arms.
meaning 2 quick shots before re-targeting. this is for more accurate shots on target before having to line up again.
and if u can kill some1 without having to line them up twice, thats a huge saviour, especially for police or against fanatical people
