  • Love these engines ^_^

  • Both of those machines should have been cut apart, put into a furnace & melted 65 years ago! The headlight on 201 makes a very nice target with a high powered rifle at about 7:40. Just squeeze off a round & watch the glass shatter & the lamp fail! Better yet, 201 makes a very good target with a Barret 50 caliber field gun at a distance of 2 miles while under full steam! Vapor & water pouring out all over the sides & parts falling off!

These are great targets for the black market in pieces!

  • @Cockroach2008 By your reasoning i should cut you in pieces because your old and full of cancer and im the new era because im 20 yrs old, wtf

  • @SmopuiM Perhaps I should be & perhaps you should. Think what you want. I am only making my comment as YouTube invites me to do so. YouTube does not say make a comment everyone will like or love.

I believe that these machines should be parted off by those who desperately need CASH. These parts sell for CASH on the black market with NO QUESTIONS ASKED! The gauge sets, whistles & bells make wonderful souvenirs.

Junk all the remaining steam locomotives! Cut them apart & melt them down!

  • @Cockroach2008 sadly i cant say ill sell your organs in the clack market, unlike the whistless and bells wich are in good condition, your organs are probably metastasized, i wont reply anymore, i made my point, go check yourself for cancer KTHXBYE

  • @SmopuiM Thank you for your concern! I did as you suggested. My doctor says I am cancer free & in very good physical & mental health.

Please tell me what the "clack" market is. And "wich"? What in the world is that?

You only made your point to yourself! I have many with me that would thoroughly enjoy cutting the steam locomotives apart for scrap metal.

We agree, "Junk all the remaining steam locomotives! Cut them apart & melt them down!"

I won't be looking for your reply.

  • @Cockroach2008 TROLL!

  • @edj66 Delighted to meet you! I am delighted you agree that the steam locomotive should be used as a parts source for steam locomotive gauge collections. These things are worth more in parts than as a whole machine. Time to part them up, junk them out, cut them apart & melt them down. Again, I am delighted you agree!

  • Just aint enough tractive effort for the poor little loke

  • Wasn't the brake off or something? Should be able to push more than that engine with ease.

  • nice catch of the engineer fighting to keep the wheels from slipping!!

  • The engineer was really working it there, good job. If you watch in HD you can actually see the loco shaking when the wheels slip :)

  • there's a diesel right there...why wasn't it used??

  • Good patientence and control by the engineer!,top video.

  • Six wheels pushing 10. I see the problem.

  • I wonder what the tracks and 201's wheels looked like after all that slipping. I'm surprised the tires didn't come off!

  • Great video. What a job that must have been for the 201!

  • Love it. The engineer really had to feather that throttle.

  • 7:53 Well if it isn't Robert Van Camp (The producer of Great Scenic Railway Journeys) on the right there with the camera.

  • the little engine that could : -]

  • How long go you want to bet it will be before American Heritage Railroads ills off TSRR steam like they did with the GSMR? Hopefully it's never, but with the grim prospects for the 1702 and 722 at the GSMR, one can only wonder.

  • Adds to the vid...looks cool when they stamp their feet...

  • How many engines do they have operating?

  • yes I agree too, the diesel trains today all look the same besides they are different color or logo. steam engines each one looks different then they other and they look more beast.

  • SAND!

  • Wouldn't sanding have helped?

  • lima 2-10-4 #610 ..and an Alco MR 412 or RSX4 in the background....great just awsome

  • why did 610 go out of service? i never could figure out why

  • I love the old time trains. Brings me back to Butch Cassidy days and makes me long for a simpler time in America. Interesting and lovely video. Thanks for sharing.

  • How much does 201 weigh?

  • @Explorer5735 If #201 could make it without derailing, then there could be hope for #610. Track strengthening takes time, but it can be done. The question is, who wants to do it?

  • ........... i just had an body shund, love it :)

  • Slide valves and alligator crossheads pushing a super power engine, Will Woodard is turning over in his grave !!!

  • Even if the 610 were fired up, they couldn't move her. The locomotive is too heavy. Plus, the line connecting the park to the UP Yard in Palestine is in pretty bad shape.

  • i love that locomotive more than the 300 better color and wheel arrangemant

  • If I had the time/money/resoures/space i wwould probaly restore UP 4017/4018 ,T&P 610, Frisco 4501 and 1625, 7 spot, and NW 611.

  • can you take pictures sitting inside the cab of the #610?

  • Don't think they would have made it had there been rain that day.

  • man talk about a wheel show! =D

  • that engineer is a dip shit

  • @ericchevy1999 Why? It seems to me that he has excellent control of his locomotive. Could you do better?

  • @984francis Well I will say this. Judging by how he jerks he throttle lever and is rather rough with the brakes that he isn't a very skilled engineer which isn't really his fault. It takes a lot of practice and time to properly operate a steam locomotive and be able to coax it to do what you want it to do. I have been running them on and off for 20 years and I am FAR from perfect, but I had retired engineers that worked with steam daily to help me learn. This guy is in good control though.

  • @EMD645E He's not jerking it. When a steam engine slips, you have to close the throttle and notch it back out.

  • @Vintage1976 Duh…. I think we all know that.

  • @EMD645E You'd be surprised who doesn't. LOL. Lot of teenagers out here on Youtube, who never saw any of these engines run, let any engine for that matter.

  • @Vintage1976 You have a good point there. There are alot of people out here who have never seen how a engine operates. Most today just don't care about things like that.

  • @EMD645E Which makes it very hard for us to appreciate them bc the businesses only care about profit today. Ask them about preserving a piece of history and this is probly what you'd get: "You want us to help preserve history? What history?"

  • @ericchevy1999Well I will say this. Judging by how he jerks he throttle lever and is rather rough with the brakes that he isn't a very skilled engineer which isn't really his fault. • Excellent illustration of the problems pushing a 200+-ton 2-10-4 Lima Super-Power and tender with a light ten-wheeler. The engineer on #201 must have really had to finesse the throttle with the shifter full aft.

  • I wish some company like BLI made a model of 610 in HO Scale.

  • @CN413Fox I wish that too! It´s sad to see that such a famous engine (I mean it was the only Texas type loco that was active in excursion service and also pulled the AFT!) is so neglected by the manufacturers. For me the T&P 610 plays in the same league like N&W 611, C&O 614, SP 4449, UP 844 and so on...

  • @CN413Fox They should! 'Tain't no reason at all why an ol' warrior like the 610 shouldn't be immortalized in an HO scale model!

  • @Fireheart528 Who all agrees that BLI Paragon 2 would be suitable for this magnificant Steam Locomotive?

  • @CN413Fox I agree completely! I say we oughta bring steam engines back to revenue service if its at all possible!!!

  • @Fireheart528 If I could, I'd buy 610 and restore it. I love T&P 610 my favorite locomotive.

  • @CN413Fox Theres a few possible candidates if i had the money: T&P 610, ATSF 5000, Frisco 1522, C&O 1601, or N&W 611.

  • @Fireheart528 I'd go for the 610 and SLSF 1522

  • @Fireheart528 actually the iowa interstate tried that dont know if they still use em for freight but they do use them on excursions they use chinese qj's though

  • @Fireheart528 just have to make sure they don't pollute the air

  • @demonwolf202 Sorry for the late reply, but not polluting the air is unavoidable to a degree unless every single piece of machinery was electrically powered. Diesel fuel(the kind used in modern trains) is a clean-burning substance for what its made of, so that would be the natural course of action. Renovating the firebox and tender fuel compartment would enable the 610 to run on modern fuel while very little else is changed.

  • @demonwolf202 Hah, there almost no railway engine except electric ones that don't pollute the air. Diesel locomotive fuel is the smartest configuration. The Southern Pacific's AC-12 cab forwards burned oil and were mainline freight engines. UP # 844 and # 3985 both burn oil. An 80" drivered 4-4-0 or 4-6-0 would be a very good choice for steam excursions. The Tennessee Valley Railroad # 610 is the last coal-burning steam engine ever built. It appeared in the music video "Long Black Train".

  • @Fireheart528 HA! you want a $400 2-10-4? I LAUGH AT YOU!!

  • @TheMrbigtires When did I say that? I LAUGH AT YOU!! Can't understand sarcasm, I see. :P Typical of people these days.

  • @TheMrbigtires And just so you know, the Union Pacific 9000 Class engine will set you back about $650.00 in total cost for a brass HO scale engine.

  • @Fireheart528 exactly. too much for me to buy with my own money. i'd need a freaking loan! lol

  • @TheMrbigtires No, you just need a good paying job. I'm already starting to save up for the GN S-2 from Precision Craft Models. Costs around $400.00

  • @Fireheart528 It's not, otherwise the railroads would have.

  • @yourweathertodayHD The 844 is still in revenue service. I see absolutely no reason why they can't or couldn't, even if a steamer needs more maintenance than a diesel!

  • @CN413Fox There are Brass models of 610.

  • @LycoValleyRRFan But brass is too expensive and unreliable.

  • @CN413Fox or N scale

  • @CN413Fox I saw a very nice brass 610 in HO it was only like $2,000. I think it was at"Uncle Dave's Brass".

  • @LycoValleyRRFan Thanks, i'll check that out.

  • shows you how much 610 weighs

  • something tells me that the 610 ways a little more than the sunday train. what do you think.

  • Sweet engine!

  • something tells me you need 2 locmomotives

  • i would of went forward and then pushed back to get a run up with that engine.

  • @Engineer5344 Most engineers I work with actually prefer hand signals. A radio message can get garbled, cut off or be misunderstood. A hand signal is, for the most part, absolute. This is assuming that the guy giving the signals actually knows what he's doing!

  • Incredible, they guy is standing right there, in full view of the engineer, and he's using his radio! Come on man, hand signals!

  • @ConrailJon theres a reason radios are used. Sometimes hand signals are not always understood, and most railroads these days dont use them.

  • @Kleman09 You'd be surprised how many railroads use hand signals over radio.

  • awsome job 201

  • a T&P engine pushing another T&P engine. They should try to get the 610 going again.

  • @imagreatbigman the 610 is in good shape, but the line is to small to let her run on the line. 500 is practically the same size and they only run her every so often.

  • @trainboy911 can it at least be fired up

  • @Strasburg1991 i think 610 is in relaltively good working order, but I think a a few things would need to be done to get her operational again.

  • @trainboy911 like?

  • @Strasburg1991

With a full load of bunker C oil and water, almost 730000 lbs...

  • I'm hearing the voice of Thomas the Tank Engine in my head. "Little engines can do big things"!

  • 201 may be small but shes MIGHTY!

  • Nice video! 201 was down on her knees trying to move 610 XD... Took her a while, but God Damnit, SHE DID IT! :)

  • I also wish the 610 would run again! I know it would be a succesfull mission to get her in operational state again, I´m sure it would cause some attention, since it´s the only Texas 2-10-4 that was used in excursion service, and soo deserves to run again. I love watching her in action in the videos from the 70´s. And Texas is soo large, I´m sure there must be enough space somewhere to run her again. Would be simply great!

  • Was there any sand on the rails when they did this? I think it would have made it easier for the 201 to push the 610 if there was a little bit of sand on the rails.

  • The old girl put up a fight!

  • Man I wish the 610 would run again. My grandpa has pictures of her on the Southern Railway in the 70's.

  • This train is the best thing to hit Palestine since sliced bread. They have fun themed train rides like the Polar Express around Christmas time, murder mystery train rides, etc. It is a ton of fun for the little ones and adults alike.

  • Wow! Looks like I need to plan a trip to Texas.

  • And that's how they do it in Texas, steam to move steam.

  • The 610 is in almost operational condition needs flue work and other repairs to bring her up to code but it would not be very hard or expensive the biggest issue is were to run her and who to run her.

  • @traindude70 When talking about steam engines "almost operational" can be inexpensive to very expensive. A full FRA 230 could run 250K and I know she has a history of running gear issues.

  • i think if they hooked up the air line it would have mad it easer for 201

  • I saw the 400 do this with the 610 when I went back in 2000. It also slipped. Got it on video, may post it someday. Not as good quality video as yours, though. But that's funny, as the 201 is definitely their smallest engine ... pushing the largest engine into the shed.

  • It's difficult to see in the video as the camera placement was just below the plane of the rail; however, the sander was being used during the move. It might have been helpful to have been able to apply the sand to multiple drivers rather than just the middle driver.

  • Nice camera work! A truly memorable day, as my good friend proposed on the trip....

She said 'YES" and 201 pushing 610 in was just the topping on a great day!

I LOVE living in Palestine where I can see steam trains all the time!

  • Maybe you can get a picture with UP844 when she stops at Palestine in a few weeks.

  • We were there too. I had just proposed to my girlfriend on the train from Rusk to Palestine. Quite the show. Well shot.
