Thank you. I had. And the reason I chose a Jackal was, I had already done a grunt, and grunts and hunters are my favorite covie. I actually never really liked jackals, but my I knew I needed more practice before attempting, say, a hunter. I wanted to make a costume for every covenant--though I'm not sure if this is possible anymore. Regardless, I just started making its head one day, because I was excited about how I would make its spines.

I disagree. I based it off of in-game models from Halo 3. According to the Halo Wiki: "In all games prior to Halo: Reach, all Jackals shoot left-handed and are the only Covenant species to do so. However, in Halo: Reach Jackals shoot with their right hands and carry their shields with their left hands."

Since Halo Reach was not out at the time, my costume design is not incorrect.

Sorry it has taken me so long to respond--hadn't seen your comment.

Foot stilts were less bulky and provided the same effect. I had originally some tendons and supports for the calves but I walked fine in them without the supports. Yes, there was an increased risk of twisting an ankle, but the aesthetic effect was better, so I took the risk.
