BMW M3 vs Porsche 996

This is kind of a bullshit race in the sense that it's not REALLY "M3 vs 996" since both cars have been thoroughly re-worked with after-market performance pieces. Here, the faster car is going to be determined simply by which owner invested more money in increasing engine output. I own a stock '03 C4S and have gone up against several stock E46 M3s. Bar none, each BMW driver got a humiliating spanking. If I had a Turbo, they'd have gone home crying like bitches.

@droptheleash0, my brother owned the 997turbo for 2years which i drove loads and have driven a few m3's, and own one myself. Lets say it like this on most tracks the m3 will win based on how tight the track is but on less twisty track with loads of straights the 911T will rule anything else it does not matter how angry you get the Porsche will lose OK!! Quote me anytime....

Guys guys, wait a minute the e46 m3 is a track car on Par with a 911GT3(rs) both don't have turbo's however the 911 turbo is for long distance high speed bruising like the m5 so this race in its entirety is not that much relevant at least not "reason 'd' etre" of both cars. But its ok to have fun, on the track however in standard form the m3 will probably beat the turbo unless you can keep it on boost all the time particularly round tight bends.

The M3 might be based on a real estate agents car but its actually a drivers car - its competitor is the NA 911 Carrera 996 (till 2005), which is lighter but only slightly quicker in acceleration. The M3 can fit a 185cm person in the back seat, has a decent sized boot - unlike the 911. A stock 996 Carrera does 0-60 in 5.2 seconds (factory claim) whereas an M5 (same engine as the M6 but heavier) does it in 4.4. Clearly a stock 996 does not destroy a 2010 M6...

I love the 996's one of my favorites, i wis i never sold mine, as far as the m3 goes that car sucked, its not practical, why the f*&^ck would i want to drive i car with no panels and shit missing all over it? tell you what drop a ecu upgrade on that 996 to add about 80rwhp more then get a 150 shot of nos and that bmw will lose the paint on which ever side the porsche was on before he blew past him.

I'm saying, race them stock. in fact, race a stock 2006 e46 M3 vs a stock 2006 911 non turbo. close match on a straight (911 slightly quicker due to less weight) but take them on a real track and the m3 cant match the 911. 0-60 speed isn't everything, straights really don't mean all that much. anyone can do 0-60 fast. try REALLY driving.

I drive a 1980 911 and its easily as comfortable (minus the fact that i don;t have an Air conditioner) as some of the new cars i've driven. and its 31 years old. Yeah, it does have a fairly stiff ride, but it IS a sports car. as for practicality, it is a little bit unpractical for hauling things, but once again, it IS a sports car.

@blackmancer : I have a 911. I'm a single guy and t's completely fine for me. It's neither uncomfortable (except for the back seats) and, since the back seats fold down into a parcel shelf and there's a small storage space under the hood, it's practical enough.
